Hi all,

I'm trying to start from Nfactor=9 (to make N=1024), but I always have this error on executing ./vertcoind:
Error: Failed to read block
Error: Failed to connect best block

What I do is to set a variable on vertcoin.conf, an depending on the value (9,10,11...) getNfactor function on main.cpp returns this value (9, 10, 11...).
With Nfactor=10, all goes ok, scrypt_N_1_1_256_sp_generic function on main.cpp uses it as N=2048 and Nfactor=10, and everything goes ok, I start mining on testnet an so on.

So, I think I'm missing something I have to change in addition to make it work from Nfactor=9, any idea??

Thaks a lot.

Alright, I installed development tools and now im getting an error as follows:

[root@charon cpuminer-vert-master]# ./configure CFLAGS="-static -O3"

configure: error: in `/tmp/cpuminer-vert-master':
configure: error: C compiler cannot create executables

See `config.log' for more details.
[root@charon cpuminer-vert-master]#

Ive tried again to compile the source on RHEL 6.5, but no luck. Im not familiar with this stuff, if anyone can offer advice, I could really use some help here.
Is there any chance of someone having a prebuilt binary? Im really lost on how to do this compile.

# ./autogen.sh
./autogen.sh: line 8: aclocal: command not found

# yum search aclocal
Loaded plugins: product-id, security, subscription-manager
This system is receiving updates from Red Hat Subscription Management.

Autogen? What source are you trying to build? Whatever it is you need to install automake and autoconf

Indeed, aclocal is part of automake. A good place to start would probably be: yum groupinstall "Development Tools"

Ill give that a try. Thanks

OK what's in the config.log ? Looks like you might not have build-essential (or your distros equivalent package) installed.

So if getNfactor function returns 10, N will be 1024 on scrypt_N_1_1_256_sp_generic function and if it returns 11, N will be 2048 scrypt_N_1_1_256_sp_generic function?

I used a fprintf on scrypt_N_1_1_256_sp_generic function main.cpp, and when getNfactor returns Nfactor=9, scrypt_N_1_1_256_sp_generic function prints N=1024 and with 10 is 2048, so... I'm understanding it on the wrong way?

What I'm trying to do is, via vertcoin.conf, pass a Nfactor number to run vertcoind with scrypt starting with N=1024, 2048, 4096 and so on, choosing it from the conf file with Nfactor.

Thanks a lot.

Whats the sense of that? There is no way you can change the nfactor via config.

Its checking the timestamps of the blocks to determine the correct nfactor.

I'm doing some tests and stuff. In config I set a var to a value. getNfactor function reads this value an returns 9, 10, 11 who is readed by scrypt_N_1_1_256_sp_generic function setting N at 1024, 2048, 4096... of course I'm modifying the code to read a var from config and use it, and to return a Nfactor depending on this var.

Thanks.

2nd p2pool (http://p2pscanner.no-ip.org/) is going very well and now it's continuously under 2 hours to block which is ideal value due to parameters p2pool uses (12 block/24 hours share validity) to achieve steady payouts. Additional increase of hashrate mainly increases share difificulty for miners. So it's now time for 3rd network? Only time can tell so try it.

Scanner available here: http://lovok.no-ip.com
Main test node is now running here: http://lovok.no-ip.com:9174
Node source with option for 3rd network: https://github.com/Lovok/p2pool-n (run with --net vertcoin3)

3rd network helps mainly to miners with low hashrate (up to 500khs) but I think that anybody with hashrate up to 1,5Mhs can profit from 3rd network. Also, at current stage, any miner is welcome to help reach some reasonable hashrate.

Settings for mining on 1st, 2nd and 3rd networks are the same, only worker port is another (but check node dashboard as port is not 100% assurance of network it uses as port can be changed easily). Generally:
9171 - 1st network (for example http://lovok.no-ip.com:9171)
9172 - 2nd network (for example http://lovok.no-ip.com:9172)
9174 - 3rd network (for example http://lovok.no-ip.com:9174) - WARNING: 9173 is used for Execoin p2pool network, 9174 is for 3rd VTC p2pool

The 3rd p2pool network receives its first block!  When I saw my vertcoin earnings I almost fell off my chair.  The reward is huge!  I am getting more than double my typical takings. As a low-hash miner (> 1.5mh), this is the first time I am experiencing high returns.  All thanks to Lovok's for his kind dedication and commitment.  I salute you!

And thanks to all the brave new comers, your support are very much appreciated. But more low-hash miners' support are needed!  Do join in and support the 3rd network.

Cheers!
vtc.cubeconnex.com:9172 (2nd network) and vtc.cubeconnex.com:9174 (3rd network) for low-hash miners in Asia.

usao - looks like it's checking it can compile a statically linked binary and can't, so the configure fails.

yum install glibc-static

then try it again.

Yes, getting closer. I installed the static glibc and it got further but then choked on another library:
configure: error: Missing required libcurl >= 7.15.2

I tried without the static option and it did complete, so I figure it needs the libcurl in static form also.
However, a yum search didn't show any option for a static libcurl library.

When I tried to run the dynamic version on the server, it complained it cant find the shared library, so it has to be staticly compiled.
./minerd: error while loading shared libraries: libcurl.so.4: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Looks like you'll want:

http://ftp://rpmfind.net/linux/centos/6.5/os/x86_64/Packages/libcurl-7.19.7-37.el6_4.i686.rpm

And possibly

http://ftp://rpmfind.net/linux/centos/6.5/os/i386/Packages/libcurl-7.19.7-37.el6_4.i686.rpm

The problem is that the target host doesn't have any of these libraries installed, so I have to do a static compile.
I was able to find the glibc.a static library but I don't have a libcurl.a static library. Im searching google to see if I can find one somewhere.
When I use dynamic libraries, the machine im compiling on DOES have libcurl and it works there, but the target machine does not.

No you just need to tell it you want a statically linked binary.

Try

./configure LDFLAGS="-static"

Try

./configure LDFLAGS="-static"

# ./configure CFLAGS="-O3" LDFLAGS="-static"
...
checking for curl-config... /usr/bin/curl-config
checking for the version of libcurl... 7.19.7
checking for libcurl >= version 7.15.2... yes
checking whether libcurl is usable... no
configure: error: Missing required libcurl >= 7.15.2

I looked on the system and there is no libcurl.a anywhere to be found. I think it needs this to actually do the static linkage.
