Is it me or has the BlockX explorer @ http://hbn.blockx.info/ been down for the last few days?

Code:
Status: NO CONNECTIONS | Connected to 0 Nodes

Does anyone know who maintains this block explorer? I vastly prefer it over the barebones Abe explorer @ http://162.217.249.198:1080/

Unick does. I think he is away right now. If he is not back after the long weekend I will contact him.

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, which will follow the rules of the network no matter what miners do. Even if every miner decided to create 1000 bitcoins per block, full nodes would stick to the rules and reject those blocks.

Man I wish I had 80 000 HBN like Tokyoghetto

A new PoS coin is HYPER https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=624651.0

5% monthly PoS interest, compounding daily. The team has some interesting ideas like a Market Stabilization Fund and sponsoring the development of an MMO which uses HYPER as the in-world game currency. Similar to PHS except it compounds daily.

Could be one to keep an eye on, mining is for another two weeks only before it changes to pure PoS.

Currently staking TEK and HYPER

I see NXT as just another coin. I agree that their distribution is pretty lopsided. One thing I would like to stress is that its hard to "invest" in most coins, as most coins are created to be investment vehicles.

Lets take Darkcoin or Blackcoin for example. The only time I would use those coins is if I ever needed to conduct a transaction in that denomination. Otherwise, I am just taking on risk holding on to the coin, just like any other. Most business is conducting in BTC anyways so the only other reason for me to hold those coins is for speculation.

My investment style doesn't include coins like BC or Dark. I have lost out on plenty of profit from not speculating on these coins, but for every moon rocket like BC or DARK, you have 10 failed launches like WC or FAC. Chances are that I will strike out more times than not, which would leave me with a smaller account every time.

The reason why I like Hobonickels is because I understand one of its purposes. Its a financial tool to generate growth. The risk and reward is not as skewed as with other coins.

These are the reasons why I don't "invest" in NXT.

This looks very interesting.... Two questions - I'm assuming it's never to late to start investing small amounts, and is there a Mac wallet and means to start mining?

There is a Mac wallet. I think Presstab compiled and you can get it off the official site... http://hobonickels.info/
The price is fairly low at the moment so it's not a bad time to buy in.
You can use normal script mining and there's a list of pools also available on the official site.

Good luck Smiley

Just wanted to let everyone know that after much negotiations, I have been selected to run the Hypercoin Market Stabilization Fund. Its an exciting opportunity for me and I hope to bring value to the Hypercoin community.

Here is the official Hypercoin thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=624651.0

Hypercoin is a PoW/PoS hybrid coin that will being going 100% PoS in about 8 days. The goal of the coin is to develop a MMO Space themed game that uses Hypercoins as the in-game currency. I would advise people to mine/buy some hyper coins, as I predict prices will rise once PoW mining is complete.

Hypercoins payout 5% interest monthly. You guys know I love high interest coins. Hypercoin also aims to fill a unique niche, and not try to compete with Bitcoin like the hundreds of altcoins out there.

My position in the fund will not affect my HBN Journal. I am still very much a part of the HBN community and will continue to be so for the foreseeable future. I will still continue to update this journal and try to help the community as much as I can.

What's the ANN thread for Hypercoin? The only one I could find was https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=218737.0 but it looks to be dead. I am guessing it's a different one with PoS built in, right?

Now is a decent time for buying. Lots have been paying attention to CAP instead of HBN. HBN as I understand it will still be the first priority/main wallet for Tranz, meaning we will get all the coolest features first.

I agree with this. buy on the dips. Price has retraced and stabilized around the 20k satoshi mark.

I see a feature in NXT but I don't really like their distribution

These are the reasons why I don't "invest" in NXT.

well stated -

and of course there is a well played out and well distributed system with growing community and vendors, these are the real slow investment vehicles for crypto .

basically anything that has a huge distro time is subject to intense mining monopoly,(or at least its potential)  this is why there are so many effects like the one you stated.

there are very few fully distributed currency - but as they cycle down they have generally the opposite network effect, because of the crypto psychology life cycle, and the key part of the uncertainty is taken away, so what we have found is that as these go down, little by little , more people come on board, then excitement builds and we return to the mean average.  (probably overshoot )

if you look carefully you can see it.

everything else is pretty much a "scam" as you stated - some will recover  - some will never recover, IPO will be a circle jerk forever, because they are the ultimate closed loop, PoW with an intense monopoly will start high - be Bid up Dark style then fade away, then eventually at some point in the future may return.

basically full distro systems like Quark, potentially Zeta , a few others just speed this cycle up -  then the best fundamentals wins.

Summary

i'm totally comfortable parking % of my profit into a full distro like Quark simply because as the larger wallets sell out - i'm parking my reserve in an up cycle long term, with the comfort of knowing i have no tard with a huge ASIC monopoly mining 80% of a huge reward to dump on me.

you have found safety  in  stake - but for tech reasons i still find that slightly more risky for a reserve stock- but less than paper of course.
