Hello,

Is Digibyte difficulty static? More people mine = difficulty increase, less people mine = difficulty decrease?

Hello,

DigiByte difficulty is not static, as the network speed increases (more mining), so does the difficulty and vice versa. Just like it is with bitcoin but with DigiByte, this is happening in practically real time, so any sudden substantial increase or decrease in mining does not interfere with the average time to find a block. Of course this is happening on five algorithms simultaneously, with each algorithm mining 20% of the available DGB and finding a block on average 1m 15s. This means a block is found every 15s on average, over the whole DigiByte network.

So has the difficulty increased x3?

I always mined at 110Mh/s and always received ~125dgb/day.

This until one week ago, now ~40dgb day!

What's happening Huh?

I really like the initiative to change the look of the Digibyte wallet. However, I'd like to point out that the issues with the wallet go deeper than the colors. It is a common misconception that changing the UI to look more fancy, will increase the user's experience. The truth is that in order to achieve a meaningful and lasting impression on the user, the first step should be to think about the user. As obvious as that sounds, this simple fact is forgotten in 95% of the cases and therefore only 5% of UI updates are successful. I might actually be overstating the success rate.

Anyway, I'd like to point out some things to consider:
Who is the common user?
Who do you want to attract?
What does the user you want to attract want?

Currently you are making changes based on the wants of the current user, but not the needs of the current user. You're not making changes to appeal to new users, because they will see this and think it was always like this, and it is a bit confusing. Is it even safe?

What you want to do, is list the most important functions in the system and make them more visible. E.g.:
1. Available amount of DGB (blue on blue doesn't do it)
2. Send and receive
3. History (?)
4. ?

I'm not going to pretend I know what is most important, that comes from careful consideration and analysis.

Next, how do you create the best first impression? The user you want to attract wants to trust the wallet, this is really important in the long run, but also really difficult to achieve. You might want to do some banking UI competitor research.

The final thing: colors. Colors are only important once you've figured everything else out. The current approach assumes colors are what makes the UI good and starts from there, where as, the correct way is to finish with colors.

Now, these things only scratch the surface and real user friendliness comes from user research and understanding the needs and wants of the user. However, I understand that it might not be possible, in which case, your best bet would be to consult someone with expertise in the field. Personally I'd like to help, but I have no idea how to reach the people working on this.

Been using the core wallet for years now, it's been very stable and I've never had any serious issues with it. Security is Digibyte's #1 priority! Just make sure you encrypt and back it up!

That said, I've just received my ledger Nano S hardware wallet. Set it up and made my first transactions...Brilliant!
( can now use DGB on any old dirty infected machine!)

Thank you so much Ledger for supporting  DigiByte!  Smiley

DigiByte's ASIC resistance is 'temporarily' absent with the introduction of Baikal X10, anyone mining on conventional computing machines will see considerably less reward than they have been used to in the past.

https://www.baikalminer.com/product09.php

If you are mining with one of these already, then many others have joined you in the quest for DGB!  Smiley

(110Mh/s.....GPU, I'd say...You are now a DigiByte knight defending DGB from greedy ASIC owners!  Grin)

Any mining you do, as long as you can spare the electricity, makes it that little bit harder for professional miners to grab all the DGB. You have to be playing the long game here but I did it for years and it eventually paid off but if you need to sell your mined coins to pay for electricity, it's time to bow out and wait for DigiByte to reintroduce something more GPU friendly.

I took some time to make a concept for a new digibyte wallet based on some competitor analysis and UI design trends. This is what I came up with. It is still only a concept and should be treated as such. However, the layout of this concept makes more sense than the original wallet design. I hope this idea will travel to the people responsible for the wallet update.

Feedback on the idea is welcome. My intention with this concept is not to tell anyone what the wallet should be like, but to give a fresh look on the possibilities. Maybe someone has an even better idea.
