what i don't get about the taxes thing, is lets say you purchase something with crypto. what tax would be applied to that event?

The value you got for the crypto minus what you paid for it is a capital gain. That is the taxable event. Every trade, every transaction now creates a taxable event. If you took a loss then you can deduct the loss (if you can document it) from your other capital gains.

You are all running around talking about how great it is that DGB (and others) are not considered a security and then give bogus BS statements like above.

Do you even know the difference between securities, capital gains, income tax, and how they relate?

Quote
Short-term capital gains occur on securities held for one year or less. These gains are taxed as ordinary income based on the individual's tax filing status and adjusted gross income. Long-term capital gains are usually taxed at a lower rate than regular income. The long-term capital gains rate is 20% in the highest tax bracket. Most taxpayers qualify for a 15% long-term capital gains tax rate.

What this means is that for all of you, and we are talking about more than 95% here that claim to be HODL'rs - your coins will be held for longer than a year. If that is the case, then you will reap NO BENEFIT from DGB (or others) not being considered a security, and the lower tax rate that comes from long-term capital gains.

I understand where you got your answer above, from the most recent IRS published position on crypto. But a distinction and better understanding of securities, long and short-term capital gains, as well the difference between capital gains tax rates versus regular income should be the focus. If the SEC adopts a position, the IRS has to adjust their position to meet that set standard. One sets the criteria and the other enforces it (at the barrel of a gun and threat of prison).

I have never seen an IRS agent at the convenience store making sure that I pay the proper tax. I am never going to see one there making sure I have documentation that I paid all taxes required on my crypto prior to exchanging it for real-world goods.

However, I can assure you that if DGB (or any crypto) 'moons' and you have them for more than a year, cashout on an exchange, they will be there and you are going to wish the crypto had been considered a security and taxed at the long-term capital gains rate rather than at the regular income tax rates.

btw; the exact percentages above are older numbers yet the difference between the two (income vs capital gains taxes) remains (and with good reason).

Also - I am only speaking to the U.S.A.

The Bitcoin software, network, and concept is called "Bitcoin" with a capitalized "B". Bitcoin currency units are called "bitcoins" with a lowercase "b" -- this is often abbreviated BTC.

I'll spread DGB how I want, you do it how you want. Asking clueless cashiers if they accept payment in Bitcoin is precisely one of the ways BTC spread.

An apology if I'm uneducated. I am a new enthusiast of this cryptocurrency and recently downloaded your wallet on android, my question is as follows. I generate a new clear wallet. However, the first time I clicked the receive button, I found an address that I gave as an immobile, however I realized after about two transactions that this address changed and I was wondering why? Huh If you were supposed to create a wallet and take it for granted, you would have a unique address. Is this a problem or is it normal? if it is affirmative, I ask for your heart, please instruct me. I apologize for the length of the message is that I do not know where to ask for advice. also because of my bad english google helped me. By the way do I have a private key with a few coins where they recommend me talking about security to be able to import it? otherwise I can import my key from the android wallet to the pc only with the phrases? Take me out of this dilemma. Undecided

I use an old and reliable version of the desktop cryptocurrency wallet Digitbyte, which has only one drawback - it occupies a lot of space, but hard drives are inexpensive. He has no security problems. It is possible to save and import a private key. Enjoy, desktop cryptocurrency wallet Digitbyte it is a pleasure. My opinion is that at the moment I will not put my Digitbyte in iOS and Android mobile wallets!

Good afternoon. Progress is never fast, remember this. The most important thing is that the developers are actively working with the coin and are moving towards their goal. I wish success to all.

Hey Jumbley I have been on holiday for 14 days and left my miners on mining DGB. I usually mine around 800 DGB per day but upon my return home ive checked my wallet and I haven't been paid any since the 1st of June so ive lost out on 14 days of payment. I'm more than happy to pay the 5% fee to help out the digibyte community but I cant afford to not be paid at all. I'm struggling to find any type of contact details apart from the so called AI that replies on facebook messenger. Please could you confirm that ill be paid or give me the contact details so I can speak to somebody about this matter. Ive seen in the post you said everything will be ok and they will send the payment but this happened to me a few months ago for a couple of days and I never received any payments for that. Thanks Terry

What algo are you mining? It seems all the DGB algos have been overtaken by Asics. DGB needs to transition to new Asics if it wants the smaller miners to stay involved in the project.

I have 5 S9 miners which have been hashing but I still haven't been paid anything. I think ive been scammed by the official mining pool they've had my hashing power but haven't paid me out.

DGB is so dead at the moment. It's hard to keep the hopes up when no new updates are announced in such a long time. The mining situation is horrible and the bear market doesn't help either.

This coin is far from dead! Price is low which only means perfect time to buy. DGB is real technology. It made it this far by great developers and word of mouth. Now that its finally getting some attention its just a matter of time. jaxx wallet is now gonna be storing DGB you have guarda wallet and the new coming official dev wallets.
