"Soon" would be in the next 1-3 years or so.

One of the biggest dangers for BTC is something more useful coming along and investors switching - a process which could happen extremely fast, once started.

So to all the tech savy people in here - what advantages could other cryptocurrencies bring that will give them a crucial edge over BTC, and how fast could something like that come along?

This post was way back in 2014. But after 4 years,  it is still unkown if bitcoin will stepdown. If bitcoin fails,  everyone here can be affected because the public relates bitcoin and cryptocurrency very closely. It's a legacy already so it is hard to guess which one will ever replace it.

Transactions must be included in a block to be properly completed. When you send a transaction, it is broadcast to miners. Miners can then optionally include it in their next blocks. Miners will be more inclined to include your transaction if it has a higher transaction fee.

I don't think that Bitcoin will be replaced by any cryptocurrency anytime soon, even tho theres other coins who seems to more to offer. I'm sure Bitcoins will be the king also 10 and 20 years from now.

There are many instances where bitcoin can be replaced by something better
You see bitcoin have a nation of investors, forces of miners, thousands of developers and tons of advertisers
So that means that if those investors, miners, developers and advertisers went to another coin at ONCE
Bitcoin will start to decline. The thing that supports bitcoin is the supporters and no other more
If people will see that bitcoin has no value anymore it will fall back and obviously some other coin will replace it

if we observed the market now what is the best alternative coins that can replace the bitcoin qe can notice that the ethereum is the fit in this thing. yeah. but as we know the market are still the bitcoin is the mainstream. so the chance are just a little bit. and ot takes a long time to make the ethereum replaced the bitcoin.

Judging from the coins that is out right now I think non of them have the capability to replace bitcoin. Yes there are a lot of good coins with potentials right now but bitcoin is just to strong to be replaced. Bitcoin has been the number one for quite some time now and no coin has come near to bitcoin in terms of achivements.

I don't think that this is going to happen anytime in the near future. Bitcoin has its value because it is the original crypto. There are a lot of technologically advanced cryptos out there already, including Ethereum and Cardano. None of these coins have been able to overtake BTC.

The chances of bitcoin being replace from its spot? None. No coin out there has the quality or has come near the same achievements bitcoin has reach. Yes there are good coins out there that people say will be the next bitcoin but that is only a statement with no basis or worst they are just hype. We will continue to see bitcoin dominating every coin for a long time.

there is no chance bitcoin will never be replaced by an altcoin, some altcoin will come, and some will go nothing will replace that first step, others may even surpass the popularity and value of BTC, but none will take its place.

I still don’t think that there is as such competition of bitcoin and I strongly believe that bitcoin is superior of all crypto currencies and bitcoin has always proved this thing also, the market demand, the number of investors of bitcoin, the valuation and bitcoin and other statistics of bitcoin is very very high in comparison to all other crypto currencies but still if we closely look at the statistics then we can say that after bitcoin yes, etherum is the coin which the second most successful crypto currency.
for now we certainly still think that bitcoin is too strong to be defeated, all altcoin users must also invest in bitcoin,
bitcoin like mains for all crypto, so for now it is impossible for bitcoin to be replaced by another coin, even if it has innovation and technology better

Chances are there, technology is growing every single day, new things being invented, developed. The creation of bitcoin opens the room for  development from its own, yes for some bitcoin is nearly perfect but of course it still have its flaws. But as far as i can see now, there is still no coins that really put threats on bitcoin because bitcoin offers almost everything that the customer needs

I think bitcoin cant be replaced by other altcoins, the thing is that Bitcoin has more loyalists because it was the first in cryptocurrency world. Its popularity will resist replacement unless in the future.

for me. I don’t think something greater than BTC will come sooner. Everything that we’re looking for in an alternative currency can be found in bitcoin. everything that we’re looking for in an alternative currency can be found in bitcoin. Now that most of online casinos and other business owners are starting to accept it, I don’t think they will accept new one soon, if ever there will be.

People who make the Myspace/ Facebook comparison are a little off the mark. They're just free platforms that people can jump between on a whim.

Large amounts of money have already been put into Bitcoin and that's only going to become larger. That makes people more conservative.

I could see Bitcoin being overtaken while it's still a minnow but 2014 might be the start of it becoming a force. My guess is that for it to happen it would need to be sooner rather than later and there's nothing on the horizon yet.

Though there’s a little probability. It would not be easy for bitcoin to be replaced by any digital currency. If the replacement is too good where prices are high and stable but I don’t think there is such thing especially in business like this.

It just that bitcoin has totally dominated the cryptocurrencies world and it's going to be difficult to unseat it from the summit especially since most of the bitcoin investors are also investing in  altcoin but on a lower scale and therefore believe in diversifying their investment i think it will be difficult for them to leave bitcoin for another unless they are withdrawing totally from cryptocurrencies.

BItcoin works and it's easy to be a winner while some altcoin may be worth a decent amount, or Bitcoin fails and all altcoins will pretty much fall with it. if they accept cryptocurrency it will be the first bitcoin, and as more and more retailers start receiving bitcoin, it strengthens its position even more. and if Bitcoin fails, confidence will be lost for all other crypto. No other way crypto will only go beyond bitcoin.

While this is too early to discuss. Bitcoin can still remedy the situation and soon begin to grow well in price. If this happens, investors will again invest in it and the market will revive. Of course, the crypto-currency market is quite unpredictable. Therefore, there may also be a situation that bitcoin after some time will give up its leader's place to another, more successful crypto currency. Tragedies of this do not also worth it. That's the market for the strongest to survive.

Bitcoin is an unmistakable case of the chicken and Egg puzzle. There is as of now about $12 billion put into the stage of Bitcoin. A large number of traders are tolerating it, and it has relatively gone standard from an "I caught wind of it" outlook. The structure is building, and that is something none of these different coins will rd. You never knew about a noteworthy retailer tolerating another coin. That is on account of if they somehow managed to acknowledge a digital currency it would be BTC to begin with, and as an ever increasing number of retailers begin tolerating BTC it reinforces its position considerably more.

Not soon but in the future. I think that other coins existing now cannot replace bitcoin, because all of them are created based on bitcoin. If someone created another coins but not based on bitcoin, I think that coin have the ability to replace bitcoin. As we can see, today's technology is upgrading fast, so its possible that in the future, someone might create better crypto currency than bitcoin, and it can caused bitcoin to be replaced by that coin, bitcoin might die.

It will be hard for a coin to surpass bitcoin because bitcoin is the founder of all virtual currency , but to answer your question , bitcoin's value or the value of any other coin is based on the volume of investors, no matter how high the supply is if there is a huge volume of investors it will or might surpass bitcoin . The most important thing for a coin to be able to surpass bitcoin is to have a better or stronger reputation than bitcoin because reputation is the most important thing in investor.
