snip

My understanding is that it's just a mechanism for someone who has a stake in Dash to express his/her opinion.
Why only masternodes? Should one who has 0 Dash be able to vote? 10 Dash?
What would be the minimum to avoid that one person voted with 10k (almost) empty wallets?

I understand that, but could it be used, in the future, to disproportionately control DASH somehow?  The idea, like I said, is probably to help make decisions on benign things, but what if it becomes a controlling feature, something never intended?  Maybe that can't happen, but frankly, I see foundation membership as being more interested in doing what is in the best interest of DASH, as they don't have as strong an ulterior motive (making money) and they're actually helping to fund the foundation and pay for development. - supposedly, I mean, that's where the dues are spent.

But the miners control the network. They are the ones who create the blockchain, and who can simply refuse an update if they choose. I was actually surprised (and impressed) that the miners accepted the increasing MN reward split--I was seriously expecting a few big miners to balk and possibly fork the network.

Had the coin not been so young, I suspect that it would have become impossible to do  Smiley

Yes, that's very true.  Maybe I'm wrong in saying the purpose of cryptocurrency is to divorce society from governmental/banker's control of money.  Actually, it could just as easily be used by a government or big banking to make a fully non-private open currency that gives them more control than ever before.  Luckily, it goes both ways Smiley

I think you're right. It's inevitable that governments are going to seek to regulate the crypto/fiat gateway. The solution to this problem is to close the loop, and use crypto in lieu of fiat. Obviously we are a long way from that, but I think that's what many enthusiasts are hoping for.

I assume that this node is getting a lot of money cause it's receving donations

http://explorer.dashninja.pl/address/Xggg1iRTpthwya9mNqBaDt7gYmagT2ugGj

Question: to open a "new" MN you have to make a one-time 1K transaction. So they simply move money from this address to another (public) address once they get to 1K?

Thanks

G.

That looks like the deposit address of an entity who owns many masternodes (like a dozen).  With the new donation feature, you can have your payments immediately sent to a different address.  That way you don't have to log into your 1000 coin wallet constantly to withdraw the funds, they go automatically to your "regular" working wallet or straight to an exchange wallet if you like (not recommended)

Closing the loop will be difficult though. You need salaries to be paid in crypto. And suppliers to be paid in crypto. At present it's just end of the line retail that sells product then dumps for dollar.

The suppliers part I can see happening the salaries part will require growth in value.. very few people would take that sort of risk right now.

Even if that loop doesn't close, it's fine with me.  Just pay taxes on what is converted to fiat, minus what fiat went in (that should be allowed no?) and that's fair.  I mean, I feel I should pay for the services I use, public schcooling (even so it's still as dreadful as ever), roads, infrastructure, etc... I do like living in a civilized country.  But if there is a place to dive into- and not emerge because I don't want to support a rampant government that is a menace to the world, all the more power to the people!

Found this interview of Peter Todd in r/bitcoin
https://medium.com/zapchain-magazine/why-one-bitcoin-developer-thinks-cryptocurrencies-have-a-dreadful-future-93007cff1613
He brings up several weaknesses with Bitcoin. While you read this, you will savor the manner in which DASH is addressing them.

following links to Dash block-explorers dont work anymore :

http://explorer.darkcoin.io
http://explorer.dashpay.io
http://explorer.darkcoin.qa/chain/Darkcoin

only working link :

https://chainz.cryptoid.info/dash/

any chance on restoring the above not-working links ?

edit : just found out that ''http://explorer.dashninja.pl/address/YRMNPUBKEY'' can also be used to fetch info so i dont have a problem anymore
(i needed one of the block explorers to fetch transaction data for me and chainz.cryptoid.info gave me problems but with explorer.dashninja.pl
its all good now).

"The truth is out there...."
my sig and my avatar brings me on the point where I can`t decide which coin is # 1 Smiley
Funny that you are posting in here as well, being a bit negative towards a competitor again, and I am quoting you again it seems lol. I don’t like Dash as much as DarkCoin either, however the tech, team and the community certainly does make it stand out, and that is what counts after all. Smiley
Veritas I liked DRK more as well TBH it was "sharp" in name itself but we need more adoption and with new name I think it has more chances to go forward not even adding your further info which gives DASH the acceleration and future. Cheers.

btw. vote for coins101 - do I still have him on my ignore list?  Cool

BE SMART, USE DASH ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

I actually do agree with you now, I do think it is silly that the name Darkcoin which i love, became such a barrier to adoption. I said earlier that we should not bow to conservatism, however now i think that we should want the whole world to adopt Dash since it would make the world a better place, it would be petty for something so superficial as the branding to stand in the way of that. As long as this project continues to stand for the principles of economic freedom and privacy it will have my support.

Andreas Antonoupolos did this interview about a year ago and he covers distributed autonomous corporations.  It's really a great subject if you haven't thought about such things!
