Is this any different than Kraken.com for example where you can deposit fiat from your bank account?

Possibly questionable.

I was just trying to make myself feel better.

b.t.w. More panic on BTCe, this time huge buy-ins. Price leapt 10$ in about 1 minute flat. Frantic trading again.

EDIT: Watching the volume bars on BTCe is insane. Nearly 1000 BTC traded in 15 minutes.

If it's any consolation, gold's getting monkey hammered as well... and oil.

You'd almost think someone was trying to close off all escape routes in advance of a fiat currency crisis.

sell as soon as it hits above 0.007 and wait and then buy back at 0.005. The only reason Darkcoin didn't drop is because all the funds of whales got stuck at mintpal. Some of the Darkcoin whales must be pissed as hell LOL

Do what you will but I recommend selling bitcoin before it goes back down and to buy DRK  Smiley

Are you kidding ?

In numerical terms alone (never mind correcting for coin supply) I've got 43.636 times the amount of DRK that I've got Bitcoin. If DRK ever gets near Bitcoin's valuation I'll be getting myself one of these:

...followed by one of these:

... and one of these:

You probably don't want to live in a CGI house.

I'm not kidding. Let me try to explain this for your benefit and you obviously will do whatever you think is best. Smiley

I've never quite understood people hedging their crypto currency investments with other crypto currencies.

Its like playing both red and black on the roulette (and not playing the 0). Lets say you know the 0 won't happen...

Some people are good at following instructions on how to set up mining rigs and run them and some people are good at understanding financial concepts. But nothing is stopping anyone from being good at both with proper instruction.

So I'm going to try to run through this for your potential benefit and please understand I'm not trying to be arrogant but to explain this for your potential benefit. Try to think tape player vs CD player, I think this might help...

If you have 43.636 times number of DRK vs Bitcoin and the price of BTC is more than 43.636 times the current price of DRK, well then (do you already see where I am going with this?) if BTC goes back to 1-2$, you need DRK to increase more than 43.636 times before you only break even on your risky investment in the sector. Of course it will go much higher than this with time, but its still a terrible strategy in my opinion especially when you have the benefit of being informed about the major related trends and technological developments, which in itself is a rare advantage that most people are not usually given when investing in for example a public company (which have confidential secret research departments…)  Do you understand what I'm saying? I could be wrong of course…. But the way I see it is this is exactly what you don't want to do and a sure way of not getting your dream house and guitar… (is that a plane or helicopter lol I don't know about these things) At least until DRK goes way higher than 46 times what it is currently valued at, so at the very least it will slow you down. Obviously I'm not bothering to work the math for you I'm just illustrating the concept…. The only way you win your way is if both go up, which seems very unlikely (in a competitive market with both products operating on the same system and aspiring to the same function the better product will win)

Every moment is like a falling leaf. Seize the moments within the moment.

The DRK price has gone up lol, check cryptsy & bitfinix. Plus I doubt that most DRK whales are dumb enough to leave all their DRK on an exchange when they knew it was about to go down for a major update, even if we didn't expect it would take this long.

Minutes before Mintpal went down, there were still Dakrcoin sell walls in the exchange. That's what i was refering when I said there are lots of coins stuck in the exchange.

What a potential clusterfuck.
There goes 2fa just like that.
Plus they better have a massive team of hired IT pros in India ready to handle the mass exodus of withdrawal emails they're going to receive.
I hope the crypto community realizes what a bunch of amateurs are there at MintPal HQ.

Yes - I see what your saying with those numbers. However you're looking at it from a $dollar perspective - i.e. when you say "break even" I take it you mean break even in dollar terms.

When investing, you have to take a decision about what it is you're maximising. I decided on Bitcoin. Not dollars, not DRK but BTC. The only reason I'm invested in DRK is in the hope that it will increase my BTC holdings as is everyone else since Bitcoin is currently the reserve currency in which all alts are priced.

The hedging of one crypto with another does make sense if you're valuing everything in Bitcoin and not fiat therefore.

Yes, they never tested the migration on the full live data.  So when data issues obviously came up (and it took 4 days longer than they estimated), they say it's "odd" that > 10% of the accounts didn't actually migrate.

Imagine you take over an exchange, make a new DB, and don't even test migrating the old data to it, until you actually try to launch it.....I wonder what other issues will crop up now..........

I guess that is one perspective, however lets remember that bitcoin is currently valued $ 4,166,814,315. This is the valuation of a relatively small company. Very far from the value a major currency if you will. Lets say Bitcoin is a tape player company, this is like saying you also invest in a CD company so that when it will go up you can sell it to buy more of the tape player company… If you don't think that CD's will replace tape players thats fine, however if you think DRK will go up faster than BTC so you can buy more BTC in relation to this short term, well then why would you not invest more in DRK at least short term according to your belief. What you are basically doing is partly and inefficiently hedging, which is actually increasing your exposure to loss in the short term, at least until you close your position. Just throwing that out there buddy, good luck !
