I'm getting pretty miffed from the lack of support for p2p mining. Mining for 24 hours and only 4 blocks found- netting me an average 50% less than what I should have gotten if I was pooled.

I really do not understand why p2p is not preferred to pooled mining? No sign up, no autocash out, no pool fees? Am I just crazy?

To that end, are there any pools that I can connect to over port 80? Besides mu.pool since the hashrate there is waaay too low.

Some P2pools charge pool fees just so you know. Miners like consistency and they don't want to venture away from where the hash is since they want to even out their rewards. While p2pools can do equally well assuming there is enough hash behind it and enough time is given, most just follow where the hash is parked. Thus resulting in a catch-22 with decentralization/centralization.
You can try Crunchpool (east coast), just 0.5% fee

Some p2pools do, but on the whole it seems they do not. Whereas most, if not all, regular pools do have a service fee attached to them.
Catch 22 indeed.

I used to mine over regular pools, but signing up always became a pain-having so many accounts across so many pools became so tiring. Also there was always the chance of my coins/info being stolen from a mining pool.

One big Meh is in order.

1% fee p2pool node.
EU node: http://eu.p2pool.sk:7903
US node: http://us.p2pool.sk:7903

support p2pool decentralized mining

-o stratum+tcp://eu.p2pool.sk:7903 -u <YOUR_DRK_ADDRESS> -p x -o stratum+tcp://us.p2pool.sk:7903 -u <YOUR_DRK_ADDRESS> -p x

I trust you are using a node suitable for your location with a low latency
this link might help,,, I've not checked lately which are up and running
http://p2pools.org/drk

i'm in UK and have used this
"url" : "stratum+tcp://darkcoin.fr:7903

Also 24 hours is the very minimum time needed to mine to get a reasonable idea of what is going on

I've been mining over p2p for a while, I was just mentioning that in the past 24 hours only 4 blocks were found.
Also I can't connect to pools unless they are over 80-firewalled connection which I cannot alter. Also, Latency is 200ms, which seems to be within the "bad" range.

Found one recently actually  Grin

***************** Amber Alert *******************

JPY holding on by its fingernails from falling through critical resistance @120.

What does this mean for DRK ?

.....Abenomics desperate to shore up their finances --> print money to buy bonds to borrow money to pay debt from printing money to buy bonds to.....

USD-JPY carry trade is pumping US stocks & bonds since the Japanese picked up from where the fed left off within 24 hours - which was part of the central banks plan all along. As a result of all this:

Dollar is stronger --> forcing commodity prices down including....** oil !! **. Russia gets screwed and there's a run on the Rouble, so start printing Rouble money to buy bonds to pay debt from printing money to.....

China looks on and doesn't like what it sees because the lack of growth in foreign markets (due to excess debt from excess money printing to fill the derivatives collapse hole) is causing its markets to slump. So double whammy for them: [1] - fewer foreign customers due to crap western growth [2] - everyone else is devaluing and stealing their export markets. So they say "F*CK IT !! What's the point in us politely holding back on dumping our US bond holdings...the only reason we were doing it in the first place was to have someone to sell to". "We're just going to call your f*ckers bluff and start dumping our gold on western markets at twice the price and lets see if you clowns don't default on the scramble for deliveries - in fact no need to wait & see cos you've none left as it is - we've got it all".

Then the ECB - having already thrown in the towel on corporate bonds look on in mild satisfaction, finally having been given the cover they so sought after to go for the jugular on French and Mediterranean sovereign debt. "F*CK it !!" "Everyone else is devaluing, we're gonna be screwed if we don't too" says Mr Draghi (in italian) .

And off they go to join the race to the bottom while commodities, metals, oil and the top 10 cryptos pick up the pieces form the ensuing debris. http://coinmarketcap.com can't get a big enough server to stop crashing from the clamour of refugees trying to find a seat in their overlevered financial storm as the music grinds to a screeching halt.

******** Check number 1 on this list. Who has madly, frantically, panicly been hoovering all known sources of Gold for the last 4 years including mining supply ? What happens to precious metal prices in a bond market meltdown ?

******** Check number 2 on this list. Who might not be in too great shape in the event of a US bond market cave in ? Who might want to help the Fed out with a bit of remotely applied explosive QE funnelled through some trans-pacific carry trade plumbing ?

****************************************************************************************************************
* Conclusion: Who gives a toss about DRK price right now. Just keep it in the top 10 and preferably the top 5 mined coins and everything will be *ok !  Wink

Does anyone know what is the maximum count of masternodes so far?

Well I think we are at the ATH so : 1302 is the highest so far Wink

About 2 months ago I predicted November 2014 will be when DRK overtakes LTC. I was way off, but I think it's still going to happen in the next month / year..

I just put up a new p2pool running on port 80 because there seems to be some need for that. The server is US based.

p2pool is already easier to use than centralised pools are.  Roll Eyes

No registration or setting up workers, just point your miner at the nearest p2pool node with your Darkcoin address as your username and password anything. Added bonus that the pool op can't run off with or lose your money, plus lower fees.

Anyway, solo-mining is a better option IMO, avoids the p2pool dust problem, and the Spreadcoin solution seems to work perfectly so far, and Spreadcoin is based on Darkcoin, just uses a slightly modified X11 algo to get rid of the centralising parasites.  Smiley

My pool needs no registration, DRK wallet for your worker name and anything for password and 5+ months of consistent payments speak for itself. Not to mention you can use SHA & Scrypt asic's to earn DRK.

I can understand your passion for P2P but it isn't the be all end all.

Smiley

Cheers

Your pool is kind of a special case. Smiley

I am concerned about blockchain security, not miner income, because that's what users and investors will be concened about too. Nobody is going to put serious money into a currency that depends for security on 2 or 3 poolservers. Not ever. If DRK and other PoW coins don't address this they will remain nothing but toys.

@lonecrouton

I think your campaign has accomplished its goal of creating awareness about your view on big pools vs p2pool. I also think is unreasonable to expect big pools to disappear or to enforce something into the coin that will exclude them, in my opinion, free market should be king. I don't think anybody disagrees that having a larger percentage of hash power coming through p2pool is a worthy cause. Not everybody agrees on the apocalyptic view on big pools though, so looking to enforce something at the protocol level is not a good strategy for your cause in my opinion.

People currently have the choice to use a big pool or p2pool if they want to, people choose to mine with big pools for a couple of reasons:

1. It is what they are used to do and know how to do it and they don't want to go through the hassle of learning how to do it through P2Pool.
2. Big pools have operators that have an interest in promoting their pool and making it attractive for people to mine with them.

If you are really serious about this, I think your next action should be to resolve the above issues. Create the Darkcoin Friendly P2Pool guide, or create some sort of website/tool that makes it really easy for people to start mining with P2Pool, with a list of all available nodes and we can all follow that site like we do with drk.mn. Create drkp2pool.mn or something like that, and the site's first goal could be to get to 10% of the hashrate of the network, or something like that. I am sure a lot of people would support that, and people that create new p2pool nodes could easily register them to be promoted on the site. You could have a list of p2pool nodes that people can filter by location and a tool to test latency.

I think something in the line of what I describe above could be successful and maybe one day we could see it at the top 3 with other big pools. That could be a great contribution to Darkcoin and a better strategy for your cause.

Edit: I am thinking the site could include a tool that would ping the network and give the user their closest p2pool and the exact string they would have to paste on their miner to mine there or something. I don't know if this is possible, but I think it will really help to promote your cause.

I'ma bit on the dumb side when it comes to mining. Do I just need to find the p2pool node with the lowest latency and point my small potatoes rig at it? I checked the guides in the mining section of DCT and didn't see anything about p2pool. Even if it is easy I think a guide and consolidation of resources is a very pragmatic idea. Let's push for 10% and then more!

Yep, just find the one with the lowest latency that is synced up to the right blockchain (not forked), treat it like a normal pool but use your DRK address as the username and anything for the password, most use x.
