I was getting to that. NxT had a scammy IPO where only 20 invested the full amount.
Oh the crap is strong with this. Nxt IPo lasted 6 months, was open the whole time. If you are not willing to take a risk, in anything other than freebies, Y U call those who do take the risk scammers? because, its hard to not envy i guess...

The Bitcoin network protocol was designed to be extremely flexible. It can be used to create timed transactions, escrow transactions, multi-signature transactions, etc. The current features of the client only hint at what will be possible in the future.

Can anyone explain why so NXT increased in price over the last 2 days. This very interesting and it should affect the NEM
There may be a factor: A Chinese cryptocurrency exchange ( http://www.btc38.com/trade.html?btc38_trade_coin_name=nxt) opened NXT's trade soon A few months ago, Dogecoin same. hehe, I will have offee with the boss of a chinese cryptocurrency exchange.We are discussing this question this weekend. You can go to Coinmarket cap, click on the price and see where the volume is coming from. This is Chinese volume from BTER. (Which typically is followed by BTC38).

Not only 中国人 trade NXT on BTER, it is not merely "Chinese volume". Anyhow it's nice to see Nxt priced a little more appropriately these days, isn't it?

IMO guy who knows exactly what is behind that price increase would be hard to find... There could be numerous option. Price increase can be driven by information, herding, etc. It could be these annoucements but cannot say for sure. I would actually be one to argue that NEM is a large factor in the NXT price rise, I personally bought a large amount of NXT solely to invest in NEM stakes... It bumped the price up, everyone buying NEM together provides actual use and infrastructure for the NXT asset exchange...

Am I correcting in thinking the coins in the alpha/beta will be fake coins, or will these be the real thing?

Im sure this has been mentioned already, but with current price that Nem stakes are making on the AE, How safe is a bitcointalk account being the only way to prove you own a stake. Would it be wiser now to insist that everyone takes the tokens or come up with another way to secure your stake. Wasnt bitcointalk hacked last year ? Personally I would prefer another way as the dumpers are being weeded out slowly atmo on the AE
cant insist on people claiming stakes.. its purely by choice! but it is far safer to get your stake on AE even if your not going to be trading it! much much safer! You can show proof by doing a second payment to NEM from the address the stake was claimed from. Easy as that. Don't try and oversell the AE. A lot of people gained a stake without payment; writing articles, making a logo/currency symbol etc. so if anyone obtains a NEMstake token I'd suggest it be those people.

How did you come to such conclusion? here's an earlier quote: alpha p0 -> 1-? weeks -> alpha p1 -> (hopefully) 1-2 weeks -> alpha p2 -> indefinite -> beta (nem launch) -> indefinite -> V1 blockchain

So the coins being used to test the alpha will all be recalled and re-distributed to the stakeholders come launch?

Argh, the NXT exchange rates are killing me man. Good thing the AE prices for NEM are dropping (or perhaps staying relative to the NXT inflation).

Wow, after reading about how PoS and forging works in NXT, I think POI is a much better idea. I don't have a mountain of NXT so there really isn't much of an incentive for me to leave the server portion running. To me, the more people that contribute to the network the more secure it is (decentralization), and as the currency dilutes, more people will be in the same position. More people will hoard to create stake and that defeats the point of a currencies fluidity and consolidates the network to the people that already have a vested interest. If you want to use the currency as a store of wealth (gold, you don't transact in it, just keep it for stability), fine. But, for a "fiat" to succeed by its' very nature, a lot of people need to want and use it.
Maybe I don't fully understand PoS, but this just doesn't feel all that terrific. Still, better than PoW I think...
Also, on the one hand, I like the idea that perhaps increasing one's node(s) with infrastructure results in a direct benefit (like adding infrastructure to a utility and increasing customer base). If I want to be a big participant I can do it on my own dime for fun and it benefits the network. On the other hand, it seems like it might encourage centralization again if folks wanted to build huge node farms then we are back to ASIC farm dangers again. So it is almost like you need some sort of "difficulty" co-efficient like in mining where the participating nodes have scale to a point and then diminishing returns. I have no idea how you'd enforce that as any method I can think of easily bypassed (by IP? by client ID?, etc.)
Enlighten me if you know better. I'll need to pour over the NEM POI docs.

(This may be offtopic so feel free to ignore) In NXT to don't secure the network when you forge with a small NXT balance, that is why you don't get any rewards. If you run a node with few NXT you "stabilize" the network, but for security purposes you don't add anything. That is the reason why the Balanceforging/Totalbalanceforging blockforgingchance was introduced. This can't be exploited. If the POI can be exploitet is yet to be seen.

Here is the thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=640772.msg7154246#msg7154246Feel free to contribute if you like. P.S. Please pm me if you see any corrections that need to be made or think any important information is missing and needs to be added. Update: Also added the stunning visual version of the handout. Thanks to the people who have created that, it's awesome!
