A lot of coins that want to be traded as an international currency start their abbreviation with an "X". This is why some people call bitcoin "XBT". And Ripple is XRP. And why CounterParty is XCP. I am sure there are more.
I seriously propose that NEM's abbreviation start with an X. How about XNM?
Again, by coming out and calling NEM's abbreviation as XNM, we would be declaring NEM as an international currency.

Why should XNM be more international than NEM? Is NEM national in any way? I don't get it... Personaly I dislike the "X" naming hype very hard. Makes absolutely no sense.

Frankly, if I had a choice I would have dropped the word movement and replaced it with World and call it NEW order. There are so many catch phrases you can do with it: What's NEW? The NEW Crypto, NEW way, NEW APPS, NEW Contract, NEW Exchange, ...

Okay, I got ahead of myself and I made a post that I don't completely know a lot about, but I have heard people talking about it elsewhere. This could very well be wrong information but this is what I have heard. All currencies have 3 letter designated call for trading. Countries usually have a three letter combination that is somehow related to their name unless it had already been claimed by another country. But currencies aren't the only things traded. Things like gold and silver are traded too. Their symbols are XAG and XAU. That is because silver isn't tied to a country, so it is designated with an "X" at the start. And again, when bitcoin started trading, they wouldn't let it trade as BTC, so it is called XBT. On XE.com you can find a list and there are some other "X" items being traded. I guess there are more that aren't listed on that site because they don't show XRP or XCP too. Anyway, I think there is some kind of international organization where names need to be registered, and it seems like that organization would insist our symbol start with an "X". The reason is simple. What if I made an asset and called it USD? Can another person comment here more familiar with the symbol system for trading?

Notice : In 2 weeks there is the start/launch of http://cryptomart.co/I think the community should be there. It might make NEM known and a way to market yourself. Maybe one or the other has indeed what to sell and gets so NEM. What do u think? I know after the launch of NEM.

I think it would also sound less scary to establishment people. Any thoughts?

I don't know if other Nemsters have noticed, but I'm enjoying NEM's current independence from Bitcoin. - A large amount of the stake fees were paid in NXT.
- The NEMstake tokens are issued on the NXT AE and thus are bought/sold with NXT.
I just hope it continues. If there is an alternative way of doing the upcoming auction without using the Bitcoin blockchain that'd be fantastic.

Look at the predicament of Maidsafe and how they suffered with Mastercoin when they used Mastercoin to fund their crowdselling. They really got burned. NEM has take a different route. On the contrary, it appears NEM is doing NXT a favour. ;-) And releasing that 1000 NEMstake is also a good move to pent up demand and size the market. Kudos!
