IOTA is about correct.
https://medium.com/@neha/cryptographic-vulnerabilities-in-iota-9a6a9ddc4367
"It says that no one of any calibre analyzed their system, and that the odds that their fix makes the system secure is low"

Compared to Ethereum: Where academics, researchers, & massive dev involvement analyze every line of Ethereum github code.

I agree but do you agree that eventually there is going to have to be some kind of consolidation?
ICO's have been a problem (UET) and surely the market cant handle the ever increasing rate at which new coins come into existence.
Surely at some point there has to be a consolidation or at least some level of barrier to entry for a healthy market long term that is accessible to the general population.

do you ever feel like the language we use for cryptocurrency is kind of offputting for most people?
'Bitcoin' was ok for the whitepaper but coins sounds dinky, like little tokens or candycrush money or something. BitcoinCash is just terrible, it sounds scammy. Ethereum is an okay name for the platform but I think most people will think 'ethereal, intangible'. Before Ethereum I thought of ether as something that was postulated but doesn't actually exist, like phlogiston.
even the crypto- part. i know the cryptographic aspect is crucial and really interesting when you get into it, but a lot of people hate math. they'll think 'cryptic, weird'. i'm a math type but even i used to think 'cryptozoology' when i heard 'crypto-', i.e. shit that doesn't exist. then again i do like that stuff.
i feel that something like 'digital currencies' would be better received. i know it doesn't capture the intrinsic nature of this stuff and it could refer to other things. but it's not in use, as far as i know. if you say 'digital currency' nowadays most people probably think 'bitcoin' anyway. maybe we should do away with 'cryptocurrency'.

@ Wasif

I think that dumbing everything down for people is a bad thing. Sure crypto might not grow as quickly as it might if we called it something else, but it's true to our roots. People will adopt regardless of what we call cryptocurrency in the long run.

MEW (myetherwallet.com) is the best. You can even download a copy of the site and run it offline.

one of the easiest, easiest ways to predict this kind of price movement is when the volume gets really low guys. Please remember that for next time. When GDAX volume gets below 100k, the price will usually drop. Early this morning it was at 80k.
Occaisionally price goes up on low volume, but that's rarely a good sign, as it's not sustainable.
Low volume means that not very many buyers believe that ETH is a good buy at a certain price.
It also denotes a lack of conviction in the market, which means panic happens fast.
Be careful out there today, bruthers.

I was worried this was going to happen.
Look at the pattern that occurs in mid-June.
It appears that it was what we are following.
For how long? Who knows.
Hopefully this 300 wall holds like the spartans.
EDIT: And it's gone.

People here say there is no bad news. I tell you this: when BTCe announced the early refund, price dropped before the refund happened, and recovered after the refund happened. The reason is, I believe, people expected BTCe's users to get the refund and sell the coins on other exchange, so they acted early and sold coins before Btce users.
However, the true refund/withdrawal from BTCe will happen on September 15. Most users of BTCe postponed their refund until September 15 expecting better proportion. September 15-17 will be the day of true dumping from BTCe users.

IMHO,
crypto assets are tied together and the same large players use the same trading bots and algorithms for many of these coins. The last run up didn't last as long because the large players diversified to try to push gains out of more assets instead of the few larger ones.
We appear to be back in a bear market (look at the 1D chart),
use cost averaging to buy coins now and through the bear market,
and for ETH set your sells above $350 or higher as we will very likely hit that again in the next month or less.
I am going to be re-entering this market on the way down if this bear trend continues with buys set at some previous support/resistance levels around $265, $240, $200, $180-$165.

Looks like the volume went up to 134 so it means its a good time to buy ETH?

When the market crashes like this,
is it best to sell Alts for ETH? Example,
i'm up 40% on OMG right now.
If it keeps crashing and ETH does i don't actually gain anything right?
If only OMG crashed,
it would be better to sell for ETH?

Fair warning, on the 1D chart it appears we have returned to a similar bearish pattern previously seen in July.
I have been out of this market for a while now, no fud or fomo,
just trying to help you guys out. If you are holding,
don't panic maybe buy more when you feel a good price has been hit.
If you are down (at a loss currently), don't sell for that loss unless you know you can make more by doing so in the same time frame it would take for the market to recover or put you back in the green.
I would recommend everyone use cost averaging through the bear market. Good luck fellow traders/investors.

Huh What do you think will the Metropolis Update do to Ethereums price? I read somewhere that it might not cause a big increase in price at all.

I don't think ETH will behave like that anymore,
it will rather react to things like BTC does, as in: absorb shocks quite well and go up at a faster rate for a longer period after good news.
The days of 100% jumps in a couple of days are over, but this is good.
Slow and steady wins the race.
