Hello Moon: Ethereum Developers Launch Lightweight Dapp Browser

https://www.coindesk.com/hello-moon-ethereum-developers-launch-lightweight-dapp-browser/

Despite the booming token market based on its technology, ethereum isn't deviating from its stated goal of becoming a "world computer."

In a move that showcases developers are still prioritizing the creation of so-called distributed applications (dapps), a new version of Mist, the original browser designed for ethereum apps, made its debut at Devcon today. Demoed at the Cancun conference, Moon, or Mist-light, is a browser-based rewrite of the software meant to perform similar tasks to the desktop version, though in a way that doesn't require downloading.

Much like Mist, Moon isn't only a browser, it provides an interface for dapp development.

Users can visit an app, safely fork or edit the code, and changes are updated real time on the webpage. This development code is hashed, and then it's shareable, and anyone can plug it into their own Moon browser.

Unlike Mist, which runs on Javascript, Moon operates on its own language that acts as a Javascript compiler, one its developers say allows ethereum dapps to be securely accessed and tested without causing risk to the original code. (Present on the interface, which displays the source code for any dapp accessed via the browser, is an icon that allows for editing.)

Speaking to CoinDesk, ethereum developer Alex Van De Sande explained that the concept behind the feature was to help other software developers "learn to love the fork." Hard forks, or software updates, have arguably a bad name in blockchain because they can be complicated to execute safely.

But Van De Sande emphasized that in open-source software design, forks are integral to the overall health of applications, and should be celebrated as part of that diversity.

Can you explain what the caspers implementation is for, in a short statement? This would be really great, if someone can do that for all community members.

Casper Version 1 will be implemented There are two parts to the implementation of a stage-1-Casper-friendly Ethereum implementation:
    1. An implementation of the "fork choice rule", the function which determines what the "canonical chain" is.
This is the replacement for the "longest chain rule" in PoW.
    2. A daemon (or integrated software package) that implements the logic needed to be a Casper validator.

Ethereum contracts on the tangle

Experimenting with ETH smart contracts on top of IOTA
by iotatili

Here's a way to use ethereum smart contracts on top of iota network. You need evm-tools, basic usage is explained in guide.md, and iota.lib.js. I'll use a slightly modified version of the minimum viable token:...

"That's how Ethereum Foundation security lead Martin Swende ended his deep-dive lecture on smart contract security at Devcon3 yesterday. At this point, he's witnessed his fair share of attacks on ethereum and wants the community to know what they're getting into.
There was The DAO hack, where millions of dollars in ether was stolen due to a smart contract bug. There was the time ethereum transactions slowed because of an unknown attacker – this on one of Swende's first days working on the protocol, no less. And then just a few months ago, ethereum client Parity lost $30 million after being hacked."

It doesnt seem to matter what positive news there is for Ether, price barely moves. I see this as good thing for one people cannot call it a speculative bubble like others

Cheers to that !

First we have to develop a proper ecosystem and then the price will eventually go up with adoption. Those with dev skills shall contribute with some dApps. All the others can spread the word: the press is mainly talking about Bitcoin because it's going up, let's help to make them talk about Ethereum!

Ethereum is the true, there may be copies, this here is absolute! The king of the kings! What is expected is that in Q1 of 2018 good prices can be reached, lately it's agonizing to know that Ethereum can more and nothing happens.

Still waiting for the right time for it, ethereum works very hard and gets everyone there, about 2 more years in cryptocurrency, this is great!

ETH and DASH is very overrated, increased 30 times since the beginning of the year, but bitcoin is still only 7 times

ETC more interesting now i think

It's been a few months since ethereum got too close to the market cap of bitcoin.  After that bitcoin skyrocketed to new highs, while ethereum has been consolidating in the price range of $280-$380.
I think this is good becuase we can call it somewhat "stable".

Just keep hodling your eth probably next year it will have a new atm.  I like eth more than btc, because of the many possibilites it can be used for.

Ethereum’s Casper Update On The Horizon: What You Need To Know
by William Peaster

Ethereum’s developers have announced the platform’s highly anticipated Casper update could be rolled out potentially as early as the next “Constantinople” hard-fork.

Casper will represent the initialization of Ethereum’s shift away from the Proof-of-Work (PoW) consensus protocol toward a Proof-of-Stake (PoS) protocol.

Importantly, the final rendtion of Casper isn’t finalized yet. ETH’s top developers are scrutinizing two renditions of Casper—what they’ve termed Casper CBC and Casper FFG.

For now, though, it looks like the devs are leaning toward the FFG version. As the Casper FFG whitepaper points out:

“Casper is a partial consensus mechanism combining proof-of-stake algorithm research and Byzantine fault-tolerant consensus theory.”

Essentially, then, the FFG version will be the “blueprint” that Ethereum follows in switching to PoS. Conversely, the CBC rendition will actually govern Ethereum’s consensus process once the PoS system is implemented.

When it comes down to it, the final edition of Casper will surely be inspired by the best parts of both Casper CBC and Casper FFG....

— Lucky Bee (@pechnikufa) October 27, 2017

This shift will allow “stakers” to secure the ETH network for annual profits by holding their coins in approved wallets as opposed to the current system in which miners are responsible for securing the network.

Seeing to it that Casper’s implemented smoothly will mark a milestone years in the coming for the team.

Indeed, the situation looks bright now, as ETH founder Vitalik Buterin’s saying everything’s mapped out nicely:

“It should be done … I would say very soon. The parts that aren’t done are fine details of the contract. The actual spec of the fork is not going to be particularly complex. It’s basically just increase the balance of a contract then change the fork choice rule by adding a couple function calls going into the Casper contract. If those details change, that would not affect anything of the client implementation by much.”

I think the price is consolidating. So it might rise in a few months.

I have same thought as well on the current price of Ethereum in fiat which are around $300 for long time. Everyone is expecting strong bounce back in alternative coins markets in coming days that may take Ethereum at new all time highs. At the moment it is being dealt on fiat value basis. Thing will be very interesting within weeks.
