Well i think you have your reasons and experience for not wanting to hold btc for long but to my opinion holding btc is good because it is one of the most accepted coin,which means it value and potential will gradually rise

Because if you only hold Bitcoin your balance will grow up only on USD rate. For example you hold 1 BTC . Current price 7500$. It's might 10k after some day. But you still have only 1 BTC.

Now think you have 1 btc and you convert it into BCH. Example for 1 BTC you get 10 BCH. Rate per bch is 0.1 BTC .

After some day if Bitcoin grow up, At the same time BCH also will grow up.
If bch rate grow 1.5 btc then you will have 1.5 BTC.

But before buy alt coin please select best coin to avoid dump.

So what you think. Hold alt coin or Bitcoin ?

I also try to teach people the same thing and that is to invest in Bitcoin but after investing in bitcoin please do not make those stupid mistakes as they will make your money to grow slower. You should side by side invest your money into alts which will make your bitcoins invested also which in turn provide you with more yield. This is the same mistake that most of the old people also do as they don't realize this fact that you stated here.

Long-term investments are designed for long-term profitable projects. Bitcoin is just one such investment. If you want to make a profit right now, then it's better to sell not too expensive coins, if there are such in the portfolio.

In times like this where bitcoin's value is very low, holding is a thing you should do for a very long time. After having its value recovered and pumped, quit holding and start selling so that even though the value drops down again, you have nothing to loose anymore. Too much holding while the value is high is a bad idea so always be smart with your holding.

Hold altcoins very dangerous. You can see when crypto market is red, almost altcoins decrease very fast. Although sometime other altcoin investments are more profitable than bitcoin, this is only temporary. In the future, the king will always be bitcoin, leader of the crypto market

Yes I think you are correct. Personally I don't like long-term investments such as bitcoin. Buy some altcoins from ICO or exchange when listing and hold them some time is more profitable.

 Now is the good time to fill our portfolio with altcoins while bitcoin is losing its value therefore many alts will continue to go down too. But not diversifying portfolio is not a good choice and buying bitcoin can also pay you back big time when it hit its ATH again.
