I have 10 years in the solar industry and am very excited about SolarCoin!
Oh Cool, maybe you can answer some questions. I have read about advances in the solar energy field with the efficiency of solar cells. I know that the efficiency was relatively low in the past. Have any of the advances made their way to real world applications yet? I even remember reading about solar paint that can be applied to buildings and it was a solar collector unto itself. This stuff is likely in the very early stages of development. Do you know anything about that? I know, off topic but its an area that interests me. Good luck with the coin. Send us some free solar panel for our rigs and I'll point them to your coin rofl
If you put solar panels on your house and can verify production of electricity using an SREC or other 3rd party tracking regime, for each 1MWh the OCA will send you an SLR. The target value for the coins is $20 in 3-5 years. There are currently as of Jan 23, 2014 roughly 2.4m circulating SolarCoins. For those interested in Solar Technology NREL national renewable energy labs division of http://www.nrel.gov/ Solar energy follows a learning curve effect such that each GW of panels etc. shipped sees a unit cost reduction in $/watt of 20-22%. Learning curves are the moore's law of manufacturing. These are highlighted here http://thenatureofvalue.com/

Solarcoin (§ SLR) are like airmiles. Each 1 Mhw generated gets you §1 free. Solarcoins can purchase what others will trade: USD,BTC, Soy candles..etc.

The SolarCoin Wiki is back online. It's a great source of information, the Main FAQ page provides an especially good overview.

You know, you didn't need to premine your coin (25000 blocks of it) since you have 99.9% of it in your hands anyway. The only eco friendly coins are those with no PoW. Nice pump and dump attempt. Go away Quoted for truth. Couldn't have said it better. Lol yes, there is bullsh*t, and there is facts.

Hi,
if you are concerned with the carbon footprint of the used hashing power, why didn't you choose an SHA256 algo, that could be mined with ASICS, less power consuming/Hash ?

It's awesome that this coin has some kind of goal or purpose. Whoever put it together has put a lot of work into it. Definitely mining some.

Finally an altcoin I'm actually willing to mine! I started last night, as soon as I saw the Coindesk article.
I solo-mined for a few hours and actually got a block! WOOT! But I'm pool mining now in the cryptopoolmining pool and have accumulated more. Wish I had more power but meh.
