Think of it this way too, there was a time SLR wasn't on any exchange, it had an effective value of zero but we still mined it. It's still very young and the real meat of the technology isn't even implemented yet, it's all still in the test phase. Why would you give up on something in the beta phase after a few hiccups?

Whoever mines the block which ends up containing your transaction will get its fee.

Yes, someone out there has been actively trying to keep the price low. Why? Who knows. Let the market decide for crying out loud.  Grin This kind of petty price manipulation is ridiculous but it happens all the time in low volume markets. Thankfully, most people are intelligent enough to see through it, like yourself.  Cool

Looks like we might have finally stabilized around the 300-360 satoshi mark? Hard to tell yet. I'm looking forward to payday on Thursday. Smiley

Hey, where did that post go from arloseb where he commented about the Allcrypt trade that was like 100 satoshis or something? I've been busy this weekend but I was sure the last post I saw here was one from him.  Huh

crazy prices, at this rate we'll be down to 100 satoshis within a week or two.

Don't get discouraged, it just means that a handful of people will get in on some really cheap coins. The price will head back up eventually ... most likely after this PoS jazz gets worked out.

Don't think so…like posters have said, just someone trying to manipulate the price.

I think it'll be going back up this week as those that want to buy (like me) start to take advantage of the low prices :-)

Does anyone here talk to nick gogerty? i was going to purchase his book today but i see he has no preview available. that is a bad selling point. Most books on amazon let you read the first few pages before you buy.

maybe someone could pass this message on to him. Thanks i really hope his book does good.  Any idea if solarcoin is in it?
Hi Nick here: Amazon will put up peek inside the book stuff soon.  In the mean time 2 free chapters and all graphics are available at www.thenatureofvalue.com

Solarcoin (§ SLR) are like airmiles. Each 1 Mhw generated gets you §1 free. Solarcoins can purchase what others will trade: USD,BTC, Soy candles..etc.

I have quite a few already and am represented in the genesis pool. As solarcoins circulation base grows 5% of the genesis pool becomes spendible.  My large holdings and closeness to the project put me at risk of inside information, so I am not accumulating SLR at this point.  I am growing the value of the economy and economic utility by working with the foundation to grow the holding base and build out soft (legal etc.) infrastructure and outreach to Sr. members of finance and renewable energy community. My intention is to hold SolarCoins for years to come and work on growing the economy of recipients, holders and acceptors of SLR.  My personal goal is to make the utility functional value (spending/transactions) of Solarcoin vastly greater than the speculative (collectible) value.  I view solarcoin right now like BTC 4 years ago.  It reminds me of the BTC 10,000 pizza.  You wanted to be the guy selling the pizza and getting the BTC, not the other way around.

Reality is harsh sometimes.

Bitcoin gained it's value from real usage.
Remember the pizza?

Solar coin went to the markets with a value decided by.... nothing. It was just like a fiat currency decided by the bagholders.
That's not how a free market runs.

Let all the premine lose and then we will see the whole value.. if there is any.

But not litecoin. It's value is solely based on speculation, not usage.

Solarcoin, on the other hand, is the only altcoin with real potential to actually get used. Solarcoin is "marketed" to everyone except greedy miners. So when it takes off, it won't be as a result of speculation by miners. It will be everyone else (those with little to no involvement in the mining world) who will make solarcoin become something valuable.

What other altcoin has this kind of media attention:

+1

It's worth noting that SolarCoin is one of the few examples of an altcoin that has been almost completely shunned by the crypto trading community. We have never had a "pump" yet. We have never had big volume yet. We have never had any of the crypto people who have lots of BTC and jump into "hot" coins get into SLR yet.

What value SLR has on the markets so far has come almost entirely from believers in solar energy and supporters of the mission of the SolarCoin Foundation to provide an economic incentive program for solar electricity generators. In other words, the current valuation comes from people who believe in the idea of SolarCoin, not from typical crypto speculators.

If SolarCoin keeps moving forward to achieve its goals in the real world, eventually crypto speculators will wake up and start buying this currency. Who knows what the price will be then, but probably much higher than it is now. There has not yet been significant participation in SolarCoin by the group of people who provide most of the price support for most other altcoins! That should tell us something about its potential future price. Either (A) they forever stay out, and the price remains driven entirely by solar energy supporters; or (B) they eventually get in, and the price gains from their participation.

Given the facts, there's very little risk buying at these levels, IMO.

Let all the premine lose and then we will see the whole value.. if there is any.

But how would that incentive solar energy? Are the miners just supposed to give up their rewards for the cause? Where does that leave the first investors who believe in the currency? Where will the incentive come from? Why am I even asking you these questions? Why is the sky blue? Can turtles fly? Where do babies come from? Maybe we should ask wall street investors to just lend corporations their money in return for what? Gratitude?
