There's a claim process. Your solar system has to be grid tied and metered. Grants are based on name plate capacity.

Check out solarcoin.org for more information.

come on, grid tie? what's the point of having grid tie? the reason people want solar is because they don't want to sell it to the grid!

You guys are wasting time on doing those useless efforts.

I've previously explained that a grid-tie solar plant could be very profitable depending on installation costs and local kWh rates.

Is there anyone (besides myself) that had simultaneously mined Solarcoin while generating solar power?

I currently have a 17,820 watt @ STP solar panel array grid tie system. I had previously mined Solarcoin with ~3 MH/s via GPU mining when the mining difficulty was below one in late January. However, now that Scrypt asics have become more proliferated among the mining community increasing the network hash rate. I've since continued investing in solar coin while mining various X11 algorithm based coins depending on profitability. Economically, there may be significant incentive to build a grid tie solar system depending on local power costs and the value of awarded SRECs. I live in Loudoun, VA where I pay electricity at a rate of .14 $/kwh ,and typically the granted SRECs I receive average $250 in value when traded. In total I save/earn $1,600 per month depending on local weather conditions affecting solar panel performance. I expect to make ROI within the next two years mainly attributed to the fact that much of the labor was committed by a small local labor contractor rather than contracting a professional solar array installer.

List of Costs:

66 x  LG 270w Mono X Modules = $13,614
2   x  SMA 8000US-12 grid tie inverters = $6231
Miscellaneous costs (wire, fuses, PVC pipes, and etc.) = $651
Ground mount construction and labor = $4541
Electrician and permits = $822

Total Cost= (initially) $25,859 or $18,101 after receiving the maximum 30% Residential Renewable Energy Tax Credit

Proof of my system is presented below

Do some research , I wonder why you haven't sent him to google the answer.

And btw , he's right , why bother and what happens when he can't connect to the grid? If he lives 20 km in the desert?

I hope that the rape n dumps don't kill this coin. What can be done to prevent the SLR date rapes?

Speaking of date rapes, I'm about to join in on the solarcoin gang-bang here in less than 24 hours...

I'm predicting a network hash of 1000 MH/s during this next diff re-target.
Anyone else have a better prediction?

Bah I forgot to predict in that last post. Last time it went over 2GH if I remember right. (Didn't it?  Huh) I remember seeing a projected difficulty over 40. It was insane. LOL

So I'm gonna say 2GH again. Yup, that's my guess.

You guys are wasting time on doing those useless efforts.

A few years down the road, I expect the "grid" to be a thing of the past. Did you see the story about Google acquiring the drone company? They make solar powered drones that get put in the air and stay there for 5-6 years on solar power alone. Google wants to have a network of the things flying low enough all over the world such that wireless internet connectivity will be available to everyone everywhere. Combine that with the advancements in inverters, smart meters and things like Nest and the next thing you know, that off-grid solar system CAN be verified through protocols that are just around the corner. And SolarCoin will be right there waiting to dish out the cash to everyone who generates solar.

Right now there are restrictions, yes. But this isn't going to happen overnight, there's a reason the SolarCoin project is designed over 40 years. Things change and nowadays even change is changing. Once you get your brain out of the pump and dump mindset, and expand your mind to see the vision, the puzzle pieces begin to fit in very nicely.

Then again, I could be batshit crazy, so don't take my word for it.   Roll Eyes Shocked Roll Eyes

And then in 10 years we have clean fusion energy and all the solar panels are thrown in the ocean...

go off-grid with bitcoin, not that worthless solarcoin

To play devil's advocate, what exactly is the point of Bitcoin, compared to other cryptocurrencies which are more technologically innovative and feature-rich (various competitors already), or which are trying to incentivize a positive activity for the planet (such as SolarCoin)?

Bitcoin is the first cryptocurrency, and it achieved great things, but it's already outdated, and it does not monetize any good cause or productive economic activity in the world. SolarCoin is trying to create a new monetary system in which clean, renewable, solar-generated electricity represents the money supply and in which generating such electricity entitles a person or business to receive grants of currency. That is a revolutionary idea and potentially world-changing. Bitcoin changed the world, and soon it will be SolarCoin's turn.

SolarCoin has maintained a relatively stable value at 0.5 to 1 cent over the past few months, and that's with hardly anyone in the cryptocurrency community supporting it yet. There is a constant appetite for SolarCoins that are being mined and dumped on the market -- and most of them are being bought by non-crypto people, i.e. long-term investors who will never sell below $1. These coins are literally being taken off the market. These long-term-minded investors just keep absorbing all the dumping by miners trying to make a quick buck who don't even stop to consider the potential of this currency. "Worthless" it may be, in the same way that Apple stock was worthless a few months after Steve Jobs founded the company.

Well this is one way to put these words together, But enough blowing Sunshine up everyone's ASS.

Let us all dive into your thought here,

Your right my god your finally right about this coin, it is a lot like the early 90's Apple. The Apple that didn't know what the hell they where doing. The Apple who needed NEW management, 20 years Apple needed NEW ways of doing things. Well if that's the long-term You, nick and the rest of the other Ass-clowns wanted to develop this coin. You should have had Nick put that in another White paper!!! I mean time to wake up Solarcoin is real, its not a concept and it needs REAL solutions. It dosen't need more paperwork and attorneys, it needs Better code how about having Nick sit his happy little fingers down and write some code rather then another tweet. Do you even realize the Diff re-target code could be changed in the amount of charterers that fits in 2 tweets. Solarcoins code looks like dog shit, their are so many things that need to be FIXED in it.

Update from SolarCoin lead dev on implementation of mining difficulty fix and request for testers:
http://www.solarcoin.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=683&start=40#p1382

My god Justin still needs to test!!! a simple few lines of code!!

You all need to get a grip on reality, the only reason a Foundation will be allowed to run a crypto is because the  community allows it to. If you think for one second that its because we have no choose your dead wrong. Here in the next hour or so when this PUMP & DUMP is over a few things could happen because The Foundation with its unchanged code would let it happen. First the pools empty hash drops and the Diff raises, or the hash stays high with the Diff high. My bet is the Hash drops and Diff jumps. So what does this mean besides all of use mining this coin for months now, not getting any coins and Wasting our electricity.
What this low hash means is all it would take to FIX our coin would be changing a few lines of code, compiling that code and posting it for everyone to run. It's longest chain wins, of PoW not PoBS (Proof of BullShit). You are leaving our coin open for a take over!!! I have $1000's of my own money in this coin, and what I have seen from this Foundation has gotten me sick to my stomach. Just knowing at any second it could be taken over, and from what I have seen you would have no idea what the hell to do. I'm sorry, your guys would write another Whitepaper or blog post, sure as hell wouldn't be write code.

Yup my mom, dad, father in law, sister etc own them lol and they never heard of bitcoin.
Great point, I have helped freinds and family put $1000's of their own money into this coin. I'm tired of defending your mess of a crypto. What I see solarcoin is, was only something Nick could use to put his whitepaper to real world. And not a crypto-currency with a great whitepaper to back it.

It's one thing for all of use to ask you to be Proactive, But your not even being Reactive!!

Well mackattack is spot on..i believe a guy named sunuser basically wrote all the code a week ago including pos and posv!!! This justin guy is a joke..the community wants this to succeed more than the devs.  It seems that nick wants to set a twitter record instead of realizing how importnant the beginning of a coin is. They never go on to reasure we are working hard behind the scenes. If you guys think your the smartest people in the room, your wrong on this one...GO POSV NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!
