ok.. seems we are even further behind...
still checking.. looks like eligius may have been on the only correct chain.. the reason why people were stuck on around block 89xxx is because that was the correct chain.. it wasn't taking a long time to sync.. it was synced..
my upload may have been the wrong chain.. seems the other pool mining both sha256/scrypt may have forked themselves separately.. or.. maybe they all just split
still investigating..

so what is the right chain at the moment, what is the current block?

Thx for the updates. I guess the best thing would be to just sit and wait instead of trying all these downloads and techy fixes.

All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.

so what is the right chain at the moment, what is the current block? trying to find out.. it could be 89427... as it seems i can't sync past that block when syncing from scratch.. the reason people were syncing past it was because they used my uploaded chain which had already gone past the fork split.. afaik, the chain split 3 ways.. f2pool is mining both scrypt and sha256, eligius mining sha256. somehow f2pool went off on it's own, then split. people earlier were saying it's taking hours to get past 8xxxx block, they thought it was slow syncing.. i.e. taking an hour to do 30 blocks. that's because the blocks coming in were mined blocks in real time by eligius. I'd guess that block 89420 is the legit chain, otherwise i'd reorg onto the longer chain.. but.. i'm not certain... maybe something is wrong with the reorgs (although strange it would happen now after 80k blocks, so maybe (as someone suggested) someone is trying some foul play. I've messaged the people in the know, and will try to get more details.. i've removed the mega link for now it's recommended you do not trade any coins until we get to the bottom of it

so can stay on a long chain, if it was most miners? what could be the consequences?

maybe that chain, no one can ever sync from scratch to it, because of some broken tx mid chain (only guessing) also, if we/it does roll back, any tx in the longer chain may/will be lost (maybe some tx have gone in more than 1 chain)

what will be the process when/if the block is identified? will there be a client update with a checkpoint or something that will force everybody on the same chain?

probably people can just sync and i'll upload the blockchain.. need to know more information first, as it may happen again, then we can issue a patch (if needed) need someone to look at the moment of first fork in the chain (someone that's not me ) - still, maybe the long chain is the right one.. i don't know.. for now it's best just to not trade any coins unfortunately devs unavailable atm.. if anyone can find/fix/patch the issue sooner i'll issue some bounty (400 HUCs).. until then need to be patient (time zones are unfortunately an issue) --- all the spam error messages in debug.log is most probably due to peers on longer chains trying to move which are invalid in the older chains (the spam you get while syncing) - (and maybe vice versa)

Same here well 9271 now people in game are all calling that chain out to.. I'm hoping that is the right one.

why dont you just leave the chain that most people are on (the middle length one) and make it the real one? whichever one has the miners support becomes the chain, right? whose to say that your earlier chain is the right one?
or were people stealing tens of thousands of hucs?

i know what you are saying.. but which is the right one? if you try syncing from scratch you cannot get past eligius chain.. it's not reorging to the higher chain., which may mean there is some invalid tx or problem?.. or maybe someone did something wrong/dodgy or a bug anyway.. i don't have the expertise to say what the problem is.. so anything i've said previously is only an opinion/guess work for now, need to wait

All mining power is going toward center chain. 450 blocks in the last 6 hours. This is the "correct" one lol (91311)

eligius is using modified version of eloipool. for god sake they're the ones that likely mined the transactions that tanked out gox with malleable transactions. eloipool might normalize DER coding, but not PUSHDATA2 type malleability.. and we're going to say they're the authentic chain?
