These are a few of the steps I follow.

1. Never keep all your funds in 1 wallet.  I do 10% in 10 separate wallets.
2.  Keep your private keys encrypted
3.  Only access your private key while off line.
4.  Memorize part of your private key and type that while copying and pasting the rest.
5.  Change wallets addresses every few weeks.

Wallets can be protect from hackers by avoiding any instance that will lead to the sharing of your wallet log in details with some hackers. Avoid saving log in details in your email addresses and cross check URL especially sites that contains your money.

If you're using myetherwallet, be sure to bookmark it and it wouldn't hurt to download MetaCert for your browser.  You can also use Metamask with myetherwallet for additional security.

The few lectures i have received to avoid being hacked especially about Bitcoin or crypto is that you shouldn't reveal your private key by mistake to anyone. once it can be accessed by one you are vulnerable for hacking. no auto password entry on sites, use a wallets present in meta-mask etc. avoid submitting your details on any airdrop that flies that is the easiest way to get caught up. many hackers use airdrop to do their evil. let's be wise

Hackers are attacking the very cryptocurrency market so investors need a way to protect their assets. For the ERC20 token on the MEW wallet I usually use Metamash and mycrypto to hold and exchange, for other coins like BTC, altcoin it is safest to use a wallet or hardware on the main website of that coin.

You are right, bookmarking the https://www.myetherwallet.com/ is very important, because most of the scams and stolen keys are done by mirror sites. The other very important measure is to never ever open  myetherwallet from a link in a email.

Well, web based wallets are the easiest to hacked as almost all the information at some point are displayed online, this is the reason as to why most of them keep losing their holding, there are ways of protecting your wallet from being hacked, but among them all, i still vouch for hardware wallets, you might spend some money getting it but the worry of getting hacked is eliminated once you get a hardware wallet

Do not download extensions for Chrome, for example Hola, with which hackers managed to hack MEW, as there are more and more new methods of hacking and you must be very careful.

Keep your private key safe where no one would have access to it. Also try to avoid login to myether wallet with your private key, you can enter to your wallet through metamask instead.

This is for those who use wallets with cheap transaction fee, such as ethereum based wallets.
There are some who cannot yet afford to purchase a hardware wallet. On that note, i have a suggestion on how your wallet can be safe from hackers. I have always noticed wallets that get easily hacked are those that are subject to public view.
Try as much as possible to have a separate cold wallet address that you do not copy and paste the private key, and neither do you share the address with anyone. You can use it to store most of your valuable coins.
Even if you want to transfer any coin or token to an address belonging to another person, first transfer it to your public wallet before sending it out.

The best way to protect your wallet from hackers is to use a wallet that cannot be hacked or cano be asily hacked. Use a hardware wallet. Thaat's the best thing to do. Also, don't ever just give away your address.. always be careful.

Utilizing metamask if to secure your wallet. Abstain from utilizing your private key just to open your wallet, rather utilize metamask import your wallet their and after that utilization it when you need to open your wallet and furthermore it can distinguish the site on the off chance that it is phishing or not. Evade additionally opening those connections you don't know to dodge malware in your PC or cell phones. Be watchful constantly good fortunes.
