So essentially this is bad for short term (as more people would then mine and we wouldnt be able to mine as much as the share increases with everyone mining) yet good long term because the value of coin increases because now there is a greater marketshare of coins from everyone and not just 1 ground.  Is that correct?
This is not necessarily bad for short term. If the network hashrate increases, I would say this is a good thing. But, this doesn't make the hashrate go up in and of itself.

would someone explain what a 51% attack is and where it comes from?
A 51% attack is where an entity confirms transactions involving double spending of coins in their blocks, and the entity finds blocks faster than the rest of the network. The network automatically accepts blocks and if there is a tie it accepts the first block to have another block built on top of it, and so on until the tie is broken. So, with 51% of block solving capabilities, one is able to make the network accept transactions involving double spending coins.

Thank you kind sir for your reply +1!

Btw does anyone know how difficulty is determined? when i started it was 1150, now 1340..but sometimes it goes up and down why is that so?

Unlike traditional banking where clients have only a few account numbers, with Bitcoin people can create an unlimited number of accounts (addresses). This can be used to easily track payments, and it improves anonymity.

If you take also into account that the coin has a developer that really cares for it and he is light years ahead of most of the guys out there that pretend been developers (please allow me that, I do not know gatra but it is my personal opinion on what I show so far in crypto-world), this can really fly.

Indeed - gatra is the Sy Sperling of cryptocurrencies. He's not only the president, he's also a client.

In short: the network adjusts the difficulty of finding blocks to average the time it takes to find a block to 2.5 minutes.

If prices drop below .0004, I am probably going to buy 5-7k RIC. :/ So I will be either be a bag holder or a smart investor.

I don't think I saw this pool listed on here so here it is:

http://ric.upcpu.com/

They want to add Riecoin but needs help. If anyone can help them, that'd be great. Dev. is working on the problem but the community can help fasten the pace. I have limited knowledge on this so I can't be of use.

Just a quick update. Due to people's voicing out that the first design I made wasn't working with them visually, I made a second design for you guys to take a look. It will be ready sometimes tomorrow. I havn't really touched the first design yet but that will be ready on Monday unless popular demands want the second design.

Finished a lot quicker than I expected. Mostly because I've been working on this the entire day since I got home. Felt productive Smiley. Sent the design to gatra. Hope he can upload it and show you the new designed site. Sleeping now.

It's come to my attention that someone is cheating on ypool.  That sucks, and I figure that one way to help combat that is to put a better miner in everyone else's hands.  It's binary only, because I'll be you-know-whatted if I'm going to let someone else cheat, and it's too easy to just thwack the sieve until ypool applies a server-side fix.

It has a 10% dev fee that I'll reduce soon - 9.5% to me, 0.5% to jh00.  Please benchmark carefully against your own binary build, however, because it's not CPU optimized.  I'd love feedback.  I believe it's about 2x faster than a default checkout/build of clintar's xptMiner port.

For those who care, clintar's new build is 64k-fair if I'm reading the source right (it sieves all six to 64k), so I've matched that definition of fairness in this release.

http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~dga/crypto/ric/

Linux only because I'm still an idiot about windows.

Updated benchmarks:

AMD 64 core:
clintar: [03:00:00] 2ch/s: 42.3390 3ch/s: 0.9049 4ch/s: 0.0190 Shares total: 50 / 30
mine:    [03:00:07] 2ch/s: 52.0408 3ch/s: 1.3137 4ch/s: 0.0349 Shares total: 92 / 90

Haswell
clintar: [03:00:00] 2ch/s: 8.5398 3ch/s: 0.1843 4ch/s: 0.0038 Shares total: 10 / 9
mine:    [03:00:00] 2ch/s: 11.5648 3ch/s: 0.2871 4ch/s: 0.0057 Shares total: 15 / 14

sse4 machines look solid.  This may mean I need to do an avx2 optimized build (I built clintar's with -march=native and mine's sse4), but the AVX2 crowd is still probably running MMC or something anyway. Smiley

Happy mining - let's find some record prime clusters!

A quick haswell benchmark:
clintar default:  [00:39:28] 2ch/s: 9.0309 3ch/s: 0.1764 4ch/s: 0.0052 Shares total: 3 / 3

I thought I was going crazy at first my balance of unconfirmed and confirmed was usaully running between 1.1 to 1.5 coins now it has been at .5 to .8. I was just thinking that difficulty shot up  a lot. I don't pay attention to difficulty as I am just mining the coin to hold.

If you are going to leave your BTC on an exchange please send it to this address instead 1GH3ub3UUHbU5qDJW5u3E9jZ96ZEmzaXtG, I will at least use the money better than someone who steals it from the exchange. Thanks Wink

Nope - I had the same thought until someone mentioned it in chat.  Ugh.

(Someone was getting about 14% of the pool shares but contributing only 2% of the blocks.)

I'd love it if folks would post some comparison numbers with their miners - I want to be sure that this thing is more than worth the 10% dev fee, or I'll cut it down early.

Well if it gets released on Windows I'll test it out for you.

I have no idea how to compile so I have to wait.

EDIT: Does anyone have a link for dummies on how to compile

I don't do Windows, but I'm working with Clintar to get some of these improvements into the open source version right now.  I think he's gotten some of them up & running already - and there's a windows build derived from that one.

10% developer fee..   Shocked

I am pretty sure this is a fad. Eventually the most efficient miners will be open-source. If people really wanted to donate to the developers, they would do so the old-fashioned way...  Roll Eyes

I suggest:

  • Do not worry about price drops. Do not sell at a loss.
  • patience

Also, I will donate around 20% of infinity pool's collected fees to the developers of the most efficient mining software.

Keep in mind infinitypool is in alpha, the mining software and pool software is not the most efficient, and these will most likely improve as time goes on. Currently when blocks are found, they are rejected, and the mining software submits invalid shares often.
