You have to analyse the fundamentals:
Look at the currency's price, available and maximum supply, its liquidity, its use case, the technology behind it and how it is distributed, its developer team, and its community.
If it has a low price, but unlimited supply, then the chances are it won't go up very much in price. But If it has a small, limited supply, then it could be an indicator of a potentially good investment — could be!
