Exponential Bitcoin Hash Rate Growth Increases 51% Attack Vulnerability for Other SHA-256 Crypto

Bitcoin’s mining hash rate has seen exponential growth due to the massive increase in Bitcoin’s price long term combined with the advancement of mining chip technology. This has created a feedback loop where miners compete with each other to buy the most mining equipment possible to get the most profits, causing less profits for the same amount of hash rate, causing miners to buy more equipment to keep up, and so on and so forth. Bitcoin’s mining hash rate has grown so large that it would be quite easy for a large Bitcoin miner to conduct a 51% attack on any other SHA-256 cryptocurrency.

Zero Correlation Between Stock Market and Bitcoin Price According to Financial Research Expert

The Director of Research at Pension Partners, Charlie Bilello, has found zero correlation between the S&P stock market index and the price of Bitcoin in data stretching back to 2010. This debunks a popular theory that Bitcoin and the stock market were correlated since they both reached record highs near the beginning of 2018. Since May 2018 the stock market has been moving upwards while the Bitcoin market has gone downwards, totally opposite of the theory that Bitcoin and stocks move up and down together.

New Study Finds That Bitcoin Mining Consumes Far Less Energy Than Previous Estimates

Christopher Bendiksen and Samuel Gibbons from Coinshares Research released an analysis of the Bitcoin mining network on 21 May 2018 and found that Bitcoin mining consumes 35 TWh annually, 0.14% of global capacity and less than the energy consumption the tiny European nation of Luxembourg. This is less than half of the 71 TWh estimated by Digicononomist, which would be 0.32% of global consumption and comparable to the large South American nation of Chile.

Tim Draper: Crypto Market Will See $100 Trillion Cap by 2028

Venture capitalist and Bitcoin bull Tim Draper has predicted that by 2028 the cryptocurrency market will be capped at USD 100 trillion, despite the recent downturns in the market.
Draper has become notorious in the industry for his seemingly outlandish predictions, and this one does not largely differ from this trend. The current market cap stands at just above two hundred eighty billion, meaning that an arguably unprecedented amount of growth would be required to meet his forecast.

Kiev Wants His Statue, the CIA Is Tight-Lipped. So Who Is Satoshi Nakamoto?

In Ukraine’s Capital, Kiev plans are underway to install a statue of the pseudonymous creator of Bitcoin, Satoshi Nakamoto in the same location where a statue of Russian communist revolutionary Lenin, used to stand, writes CNN.
Father of the Russian nation, Lenin, had stood on the spot until it was torn down by Ukrainians during the 2014 Revolution of Dignity when the government of the day was overturned.

The idea of the erection of a statue to honor Bitcoin’s reputed founder was down to a group known dramatically as the Satoshi Nakamoto Republic. The initial idea is to have a virtual monument on the site which can be viewed using tech such as smartphones and tablets, with an app developed by Raccoon World.

New Version of Bitcoin Core 0.16.1 Released

A new version of Bitcoin Core, 0.16.1, has been officially released by a group of 19 Bitcoin Core developers on 15 June 2018. This is the first update to Bitcoin Core since 0.16.0 in February 2018 which implemented full support for Segregated Witness (SegWit) to fit more transactions into blocks and reduce transaction fees.
In this update, the “blockmaxsize” option has been removed, and now miners should use “blockmaxweight” if they want to limit block size. Several other bugs are fixed in addition to some policy and documentation changes which can be found in the PGP signed 0.16.1 release notes. Basically, there aren’t any major changes to Bitcoin Core with this release, but it is important to be running the latest software, so Bitcoin Core users should update to 0.16.1.

CBOE Considering Ethereum Futures After SEC Decision

The President of the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE), Chris Concannon says Ethereum futures could be available soon, following a decision from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) that Ethereum won’t be regulated as a security.
The CBOE President says this decision gets rid of a major stumbling block that was hindering the path towards legally operating an Ethereum futures exchange, and that he is pleased with the SEC for making this clarification. Apparently, CBOE has been thinking about offering Ethereum futures trading since it first launched its Bitcoin futures exchange in December 2017. Bitcoin and Ethereum are the top 2 cryptocurrencies with market caps of 112 billion USD and 50 billion USD respectively as of this writing, 57% of the total cryptocurrency market cap of 281 billion USD.
