Initial coin offerings (ICOs) may have found some footing in the United States after the Chamber of Commerce established its new Fintech Innovation Initiative, which is calling for more precise regulations on cryptocurrencies and crypto-related activities.

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, which will follow the rules of the network no matter what miners do. Even if every miner decided to create 1000 bitcoins per block, full nodes would stick to the rules and reject those blocks.

Actor Johnny Depp, of Edward Scissorhands and Pirates of the Caribbean fame, has been linked with a new film said to be a biopic of the late cryptocurrency billionaire Matthew Mellon.
Although it hasn’t been confirmed, sources reportedly told the Mail Online that Depp is understood to be interested in the role and that “there is a screenplay being shopped”.

A study of decentralized exchanges conducted by the analytics firm Alethio in July 2018 found that exchanges which claim to be decentralized have a relatively small amount of trading and liquidity and aren’t truly decentralized. It is found that so-called decentralized exchanges actually have varying degrees of centralization.

To be clear, this is not the VanEck SolidX Bitcoin ETF that has been generating so much hype and positive comments, which is expected to be decided on by mid-August.

Bitwise Proposes Crypto ETF to Track Top 10 Cryptocurrencies

Bitwise Asset Management has filed a proposal with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to launch an exchange traded fund (ETF) called the Bitwise Hold 10 Cryptocurrency Index Fund. This ETF will track the Bitwise Hold 10 Index, which is a basket of the top ten cryptocurrencies by market cap weighted proportional to their market cap. This is the first ETF proposal that combines multiple cryptocurrencies.

Bitmain Looks to Raise Another $1 Billion Before IPO

Bitmain, the world’s largest Bitcoin mining equipment manufacturer and operator of some of the largest Bitcoin mining pools, is looking to raise another USD 1 billion of funding. If successful, this would bring its valuation up to USD 15 billion. Bitmain’s valuation is already USD 12 billion after a successful USD 400 million funding round led by Sequoia Capital in June 2018.

For the first time in history, Bitcoin futures contracts have been exchanged for actual Bitcoins, which is known as an exchange for physical (EFP) in the futures markets. The trade was facilitated by itBit, headquartered in New York City and the home of Wall Street, and the registered futures commission merchant ED&F Man Capital Markets. Up to now all Bitcoin futures contracts trading was done for cash.

Crypto Market Cap Surpasses $300 Billion, up $70 Billion in Less Than a Month

The total cryptocurrency market cap has surpassed USD 300 billion as of 24 July 2018, reaching as high as USD 304 billion earlier today. This is a USD 71 billion or 30% increase from lows hit on 29 June 2018, less than a month ago. Bitcoin’s price has rallied from USD 5,800 to USD 8,500 during the same time. The last time the market cap was USD 300 billion was back on 10 June, when prices were crashing following a rally that peaked in early May when the market cap hit USD 471 billion.
