Binance Demos Decentralized Exchange

Changpeng Zhao has published a video showing a demo of the early stages of the Binance decentralized exchange (DEX), which will be hosted on the Binance Chain. Changpeng Zhao says “As you guys saw, that’s a very casual early demo for the Binance Chain, there’s still a ton of work to be done to turn it into a final product. The team is working on it very aggressively. Nevertheless, I think this is a major milestone for Binance chain”.

Bitcoin’s Dominance Percentage Over 50% for the First Time Since December 2017

Bitcoin’s dominance percentage is at 50.9% as of this writing on 12 August 2018 according to data from CoinMarketCap. The numbers are up 15% from May 2018 when the uptrend began. This is the first time since December 2017 that Bitcoin’s dominance percentage has risen above 50%, meaning most of the money invested in cryptocurrency is invested in Bitcoin.

FindSatoshi Campaign Suffers from Lack of Foresight

An Estonian man named German Neff has created the FindSatoshi movement, which has a goal of finding Satoshi Nakamoto using whatever it takes to finally reveal the Bitcoin creator’s identity, regardless of Satoshi’s wishes to stay anonymous. Neff is using a Russian crowdfunding site and has received RUB 5.5 million (USD 80,700) so far to fund this effort.

Iran has recently been making headlines regarding the development of an state-backed cryptocurrency. This is due to crippling United States sanctions that are progressively tightening since the Iran Nuclear Deal was thrown out by the Trump administration, which has caused hyper-inflation of the local fiat currency rial (IRR). Further, the US is stopping Iran from buying and selling foreign currencies, precious metals, and commodities. Iran now has a team developing an Iranian state-backed cryptocurrency from scratch, which raises the question, why go through the trouble of developing a state-backed cryptocurrency instead of just using Bitcoin?

World Bank and Commonwealth Bank Team up with Blockchain

The World Bank and The Commonwealth Bank of Australia have combined to create an Ethereum-based Australian dollar blockchain bond.

The bond project has a target of between USD 50 million and USD 100 million for sustainability projects. The World Bank issues between USD 5060 billion a year for project funding around the world.

Saudi Arabia has banned virtual currency, including Bitcoin and all other cryptocurrencies. This is the decision of the standing committee for awareness on dealing in unauthorized securities activities in the foreign exchange market, which was formed by the Capital Market Authority, Ministry of Interior Membership, Ministry of Media, Ministry of Commerce and Investment, and the Saudi Arabian Monetary Authority (SAMA).
