I have a quick question about the gridseed miners. How is the power connector called that is used? I know how they look but i have no clue what they are called, so i can't find them online.

2.5x5.5mm barrel connector (2.1x5.5mm will work as well)

Zoomhash website told me to buy this one here, which works well, though its no longer available.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Global-AC-DC-Adapter-Charger-For-YSX-YSX127000T-Power-Supply-Cord-Mains-PSU-NEW-/351013848783?ssPageName=ADME:L:OU:US:1120

I would guess in the "More chances to get what you want" part of the same page at Ebay that most of those would work as well as long as its 12 volt output with 7 amps.

Oddly enough, while I was mining at clevermining, all the sudden my cgminer reported a "ZOMBIE" was mining. During this time, my hashrate also seemed to increasingly decrease..by the hundreths of kilohashes.  One by one, lower and lower, from say 359.7kh to 359.5kh to 359.3kh, and so on.

I stopped cgminer, disconnected the Gridseed, plugged it back in and restarted cgminer and everything seems normal again.
Very Odd.

Cant write a picture to describe this but, right after it says 850 MHz in cgminer, it said ZOMBIE/355.1Kh/s.  And the Kh/s kept dropping.
Not sure if its a bug, maybe Ive been tapped, perhaps just a strange error.  But anything that says ZOMBIE worrys me.

Anyways everything seems normal now as I continue to mine at clevermining (after I have unplugged and restarted everything).

Now tell me that isnt awesome!  10 Gridseeds hashing 3+ MHs at some merely 70 WATTS.
It is, in a sense, the miracle of the cfl bulb, if not the LED.
Congrats on your success, Mindtrip!

Its really awesome I am so ready to start buying more they also run so solid no HW errors like other sics I have used. Very consistent speeds I really cant wait to get another 20 and see how many I can get to run together I have heard anything over 20 units I might start having issues but I suppose I can start hooking them up to my rigs that are GPU mining to make best use of what I already have.

Anyway.....
Nothing personal. This is addressed to everyone, not just you. I am quoting you so everyone can follow along on the subject.
Anyway...
Chip design is hardware.True, once made, it's made.
Put real simply, software is SOFTWARE, firmware is SOFTWARE written in to non-volatile memory, like in BIOS -....but that can be re-written too! It's called firmware because it's software written in to non-volatile ROM (Read Only Memory). Firmware is used in our little machines to tell the BTC cores how to produce hashes the SHA-256 way. Firmware is used in the LTC core to tell the little hasher how to hash the Scrypt way.
SHA and Scrypt are algorithms. An algorithm is a set of instructions of how to solve a problem and it is usually run in a loop, as we see in the DOS window the 'same' steps being performed over and over and over. It's the brains of the chip. That is the FIRMWARE at work!
Long story short, and as far as I am concerned, the SHA core can be re-programmed to run Scrypt algorithm instead of SHA-256 algorithm. It's that simple! One thing that bugs me about my
Re-write the firmware and we have a set of chips that can now run the heck out of Scrypt at a much higher hash rate! ..... Yeah baby! Yyyyyyyyyyyeahhhhhhhhhhhhh!

This post actually made me register for the forum because of how completely wrong it is.

An ASIC is not a general processor like a CPU. It's an Application Specific Integrated Circuit (hence ASIC). You can think of it as software etched into silicon. It doesn't change. Ever. No firmware flashes, BIOS upgrades, or anything else will ever change what the ASIC does. You can't use an ASIC designed for one purpose (like hashing) and use it for another purpose (like running tax software). ASICs are optimized for specific tasks, and since they are optimized at the hardware level they can the job far more efficiently than a general purpose processor can.

The firmware on the GS translates messages coming across the USB cable into instructions the various components can understand (setting clock speeds, baud rates, start hashing, etc.). But there is no hashing algorithm in the firmware. The core algorithm implementations are etched into the the chips themselves.

not ckolivas, some one forked it for gridseed, as ckolivas said he wont work on any other except sha256 after 3.7.2

I am getting HW errors running 6 gridseed miners in cgminer.
Anyone getting HW errors?

Can someone tell me the difference between the gridseed miners with the red heatsink and the miners with the brownish heatsink? Is one of them older/newer?

At 800MHz clock I get maybe 2 errors in 24 hours. Higher clock rates produce more errors and although cgminer reports higher hashing speeds the speed seen by the pool goes down. I think 850 might be the optimum but I need more testing.

just wanted to let this thread know about SCRYPTGUILD.COM

I have 2 gridseeds pointed here, and they are running great. This pool is AUTO switching Multi Coin Pool for max. profit or you can just mine Dogecoin if you want. Anyway, try it out.

Did anyone try dual mine BTC/LTC with cgminer 3.8.5 from here; http://cryptomining-blog.com/1254-how-to-mine-both-btc-and-ltc-on-gridseed-5-chip-gc3355-asic/ ?
 Using cgminer 3.8.5 for BTC I can get 65 Gh/s max at 850 Mh/z.

What command line you used.
I try to mine with 1 miner & it never goes more than 1100Mh/s

I was talking about 65GH/s for LA3M -10 pcs- with usual command line:
 --gridseed-options=baud=115200,freq=750,chips=5,modules=1,usefifo=0,btc=16 --hotplug=0

Edit: I get 6.3-6.5 Mh/s for single one.

I usually get 7.5-7.9Gh/s, but i have not been able to successfully mine both Scypt and SHA256. I have one of the redfin STM32 driver using devices

I also havent been able to dual Mine I have tried doing both independently and it works fine I have 10 units hooked up to a 600W 12V power Supply I bought from my own sources. It can handle all 10 at the higher draw of up to 60W each I haven't yet measured it with a kill-owatt in BTC mode to measure the actual draw. I know you need to run the old CPU miner in order to do dual mining but I cant seem to get it to connect to the port after converting them from COM ports to USB drivers

Both cgminer and cpuminer will report errors if they lose connection to the pool, e.g. if the network cable is unplugged. I noticed that while doing some rewiring around the house. So at least some of the "hardware errors" might not be related to actual hardware.

cgminer, after I twice unplugged the network switch shows two hardware errors for each miner:

cpuminer, after the same, shows a bunch of invalid nonces upon resuming:

Does the CGminer fork work with low power for scrypt only or is that still an issue?  If it is low power can someone point me to the correct CGMiner please?
