Given the current markets, if I was going to sell my (non-existent) house, then I would sell it for solarcoins, not for bitcoins.

Once a transaction has 6 confirmations, it is extremely unlikely that an attacker without at least 50% of the network's computation power would be able to reverse it.

Hi All,

I have been following Bitcoin for over a year and was the first person ever to put my house for sale for bitcoin.

http://www.cbc.ca/newsblogs/yourcommunity/2013/03/alberta-man-accepting-bitcoins-in-exchange-for-home.html

Not sure if you followed my story from a year ago, but the house just sold on Friday, and will make the news tomorrow I suspect. When the house closed on Friday I got approximately 648 BTC for my house which is based on prices over the past 6 months when the deal was actively negotiated, legal fees, realtor fees, and a bunch of contract wording that I frankly don't understand. I am now all in! I really believe in bitcoin. It is the future of the world. I look forward to the continued price increase and one day I plan to own my own island. I will truly be a bitcoin billionaire by the time I am 25 I believe. This house was inherited from my father who passed away a few years ago and he always believed in me and told me I would make it big one day and so I shall. Wish me luck Smiley

If you don't mind me saying....you are out your fucking mind.

As other people have suggested. Visualise your reaction if you wake up sometime next week and see Bitcoin at $450. How is that going to make you feel? What are you going to do? You realise that there are hundreds of thousands of stolen coins in circulation right now, many of them probably being prepared for a big long drawn out cashing out, don't you?

Sell at least 60% of what you have for as close to the matching equivalent cash price of your house that you can get. 200 BTC is more than enough of a wild card gamble to be taking on Bitcoin at this point in time. If Bitcoin goes to $5K, then great! But if Bitcoin happens to die a premature death for any reason, then you live and learn but you still have your shirt on your back.

Do remember to come back in three years time and post about how lucky this guy was.

I totally agree .... If he has the ability to sit on his investment for the next 12-18 months he will reap the rewards

Personally I am in the process on investing 100k in both ltc\btc Cheesy

HODL ....

You don't have to be Jewish to get involved in the Age of Jew. You just have to earn your wealth simply by handling 'wealth' and squeezing every last drop blood you can out of it before passing the asset on to some other schmuck two seconds before it turns into worthless dust. Bonus points are awarded for creating wealth out of nothing and then using it to syphon off yet more real wealth from the real economy. However, it is not as easy as all that. By no accounts may you go out into the world and actually do or produce something in exchange for any form of payment, that can actually be used by someone or benefit another person in any way shape or form. That is against the rules and would disqualify you from the game.

The winners are decided by whoever is sitting in a country mansion with 5 sports cars in the drive when the whole economy collapses and we wake up and find that all our entire means of production have been shipped of to the Far East and our economy resembles worm eaten rotten driftwood.

Mat - you need to be in Freicoin - no usury with Freicoin  Cool

I reckon a speculator like yourself could earn dollars from a currency that has built in demurrage, but whatever you do don't hold - and at least you'd sleep easy at night knowing that you weren't part of the Age of the Jew  Wink.

Bitcoins in the past 3 months has been one of the worst ways to increase your fiat. In the past week I have seen stocks such as Plug, FNMA, and FCEL increase 2-3x their value in a week and drop that much in a day. These aren't penny stocks either. Mat the fact that you emphasize constantly that you have put your hard earned money into the bitcoin market and is deathly afraid of losing any or all of it is a joke. You are a wanna be day trader that for some reason chose bitcoins as your method of accumulating more fiat. There are better investments out there that can double or triple you money in a day and only happens from 9:30 to 4:00.

What's the min required to start an account these days?

Just 1 thing. The "end of fiat" could take some time to play out, so you might want to convert some of your BTC into dollars / gold / some conventional investments now so you are not forced to sell your coins later in the case of a serious interim bear market.

Either that or get a job in order to cover any interim expenses. What I mean is, it could be many years or decades before bitcoin ever reaches huge adoption, and during that time the price could go much lower. Sure, bitcoin is receiving plenty of media hype and attention now, but that can disappear quickly. Be sure you are not caught out by this. Dont disregard your other options.

Don't forget also the risk of confiscation, so might be good to store on different devices in different global locations. The same goes for gold as well.

The last thing you want is to panic sell when the price is crashing. The best way to do that is to have some cash available in other places, so you are not putting all your eggs in one basket, and not to invest more than you can afford to loose.

Yes, it sounds boring. But - I've been in this situation before and trust me, it really does produce the end result of you keeping more of your money. Each of us has a certain amount of risk we can handle. The trick is to hit that amount, not to cross it.

(Which of course leads to the maxim: bulls and bears profit , pigs get slaughtered.)

Because 3 months is a timescale appropriate for measuring the quality of an investment decision.  Roll Eyes

Grats man. The more things like this happen the better.

Hold on to most of that 648, in a few years you might be able to retire.

When someone sells their house they inherited, something their parents worked hard for, and they also claim they will have an island by the time they are 25 it is hilarious. 648 btc to buy an island one day is almost too much to handle.
