Hey, I have been summoned into this discussion and I had to reread a few messages back to understand what we are talking about.

I have no particular insight to add: I know a little about those users, but they are writing on the Italian board and, of course, have been merited multiple times by me because of the quality of their post.

In particular regarding the DT1 I am not aware of any scheme or coordination.
The only thing I can say is that I usually encourage the fill of the DT list:

So, maybe those users decided to compile their DT list and, fulfilling all the other criteria, became selected by Theymos.

I have little to add to this.
If you discover some coordination effort, I don't know what to say. I am unsure if it is against the rules, but I will look into the evidence. 
If those accounts are alts of a game person, there would probably be some merit cycling between them that is at least frowned upon, and of course, I would be happy to discover such a situation.
Otherwise, I must only be happy there is more variety in DT1: I think this was one of the targets of this procedure, wasn't it?

I don't think coordinating or even campaigning for Trust inclusions (or exclusions) is a problem. From the OP:

In borderline cases, it should result in something of a political battle.

It would be nice though if they follow the basics, and List the users who you trust to have good trust ratings and good trust lists.

If those accounts are alts of a game person, there would probably be some merit cycling between them that is at least frowned upon, and of course, I would be happy to discover such a situation.

If sockpuppet accounts help push someone onto DT1, theymos theymos will blacklist them from DT1-selection if found out.

Otherwise, I must only be happy there is more variety in DT1: I think this was one of the targets of this procedure, wasn't it?

So, I agree with everything you said, and above all, DT inclusion should be based on the trust of a particular user.
Yet, Feedback metrics are not included in the criteria for DT inclusion.
Maybe theymos will be inspired by this and amend the rules.
Until then, I haven't much to say, and if a political battle will emerge, I am not sure I will be too interested in taking sides.

What you write here makes a lot of sense, but looking at it objectively, there is no way to tell if a user's trust feedback will be accurate/helpful or not if they've never left any feedback. Is it a good idea to add users to a trust list based on their trust list alone, and just trust they would leave helpful feedback if/when they did? I'm trying to be purely objective about it.

Trusts are released if and only if you make trades, if you don't make trades you don't release trusts.

and I don't think this creates problems, in my trust list there are respectable people

You can ask theymos to be removed from DT1-selection, several people have done that successfully.

Marlboroza did that in 2019, and he's still on DT2. But he actually left a lot of good feedback, so people (including me) want to see it.

Note that I know nothing about you, and I can't read your Italian posts. I only highlighted your account as it caught my attention in this monthly data dump.
May I ask you to reconsider being blacklisted from DT1?
The fact that you're not interested in DT1 makes me believe you could be the right person to be on DT1, if you spend some time reading how the trust system works and how it's supposed to be used. DT1 can be used for good or for evil, and if you use it for good, you can help improve your local board. But if you're on DT1, it should be for the right reasons.

To make DT1 more decentralized, it's important that more users create a custom Trust list.

I'm more and more thinking the entire Trust system is too complicated. By now, I think I have a pretty good understanding of how it works, but it's far too much for the majority of users to fully understand the ins and outs. That's why people intuitively use it in a different way.
