Sure, many payment projects now are close to integrating crypto-fiat payments in shops. It depends on the progress of Lightning Network actually whether BTC is the main movers or not. From what I see, LN wouldn't be ready in 2019. Therefore, this is the year for altcoins to overtake BTC as payment tools.

BTC would stay strong to be the internet gold. Crypto-exchanges would still anchor BTC for trading pairs, but not for buying goods from stores.

I have no insight into what 2019 holds in terms of overall payments made with bitcoin. But I have for the past 3 years happily been accepting bitcoin for my goods & services. My clients have bene happy with that so they continue to use me even if they have hesitations to get into bitcoin! I'm always glad to help out the noobies with things like that.

Many of them are scared that this bear won't end but rest assured, crypto as a payment method has been always a success. There's no certain measurement on how successful it was but take this forum as an example of its success. And for that progress that you've been asking, it's too early to say.

The Lightning network (and apps/wallets used to interact with it) is progressing nicely. I think we'll see Lightning usage ramp up a lot over the next year or two, especially when on chain fees start rising again.

Our market only thrives when the recession no longer exists. We are affected by the recession very much and we are being pulled back.
We need to work harder to save the market from destruction. Don't expect too much that the crypto market will flourish in 2019, that's fanciful.

Crypto payments wouldn't really hit it yet IMO knowing that there aren't enough merchants accepting the said payment method. The problem is not on the buyer's side but on the selling side, as most are still hesitant to integrate cryptocurrencies into their checkout pages. Bitcoin is fast, secure and reliable in itself, but the price is what makes the conflict for most merchants. Market capitalization and high price alone wouldn't seal the deal, you also need price stability if you want the merchants pouring in.

You should not be worried at all because there are improvements that are happening in the cryptocurrency market even it is still down.  We can expect that by the end of the year, the users of the cryptocurrencies will increase by 100% and more.

There has indeed been some progress in accepting cryptocurrencies as payment. The two immediate things that come to my mind are related to Japan. The first one is that Rakuten (Japanese Amazon) intends to accept cryptos as payment, which is pretty huge. This is a great example of how buying goods and services can work out for cryptos, since online payments don't need to be as fast as the ones in real life (because you don't have to wait in a queue). If cryptocurrency used for payment in merchant, in many country need government regulation and i think its need more time. Many project do this and that project prefer create their own market place. But mostly crypto can used as payment if that is online store.

Right now the bear market trend brings fear to some users of cryptocurrency but it does not mean it will totally make it dead. Yes, there are online stores which accept crypto and most likely those online casinos. I think bearish market will end in few years time, so let's be optimistic about it and think more positively that bull run will trigger.

If only the government will realize the positive impact of economy in their country, then they'll be the one to encourage their people to start investing in cryptos. But, unfortunately they will never do that for sure. Some countries already adopting cryptos. There are exchanges in some countries that allows you to pay bills using your cryptos. You are right, crypto-currencies are progressing, they are gaining more recognition and the number of establishments and trading places that accept crypto-currencies as a means of payment is increasing, but you need to recognize the fact that most people are not ready to use digital currencies, just as a means of payment , and see only as a way to profit.

There is also the trouble of changing money from bitcoin to your bank account with ease. That is why shops do not accept bitcoin that easily, we need a global company that makes changing bitcoin to fiat very easy and that way we can turn the bitcoin payments to a regular thing.

If a company figures out a way for a shop to accept bitcoin, even not accept bitcoin but just accept payments with debit cards or mobile phones, we can mange to pay with our crypto while they receive fiat, the middleman will be making money from the buyer of course but allowing us to spend bitcoin and let the shop decide if they will receive bitcoin or fiat INSTANTLY will allow us to use it in many more places. Until that day we are bound to just use it on places that accept bitcoin.

You have to pay fees for the escrow, that's not always an option. Smart contracts are friendlier in this point.

Actually the present market conditions (bear) of cryptos does not hinder any payment system using cryptos what matters most is the actual value of the goods rated in US dollar while purchasing it at the present value of the crypto while its preferable to hodl now than to spend it on goods when fiat as an alternative means of purchasing goods and services is available.

I feel like it is being adopted more and more by large companies. Progress in that area is not going to happen that fast, in my mind I am ready to wait decades to be able to use bitcoin to buy the products I need without any trouble, that may seem like a lot of time for some but I am realistic, bitcoin is simply too advanced for many people to understand and unless they are forced to do it by the circumstances they will not make an attempt to do it.

Right now, many online marketplace receiving crypto as payment and i think its good for crypto community. Its need more time if we want buying goods in local merchant with crypto because many government still ban crypto as currency

Right now it is very difficult to use cryptocurrencies in our daily transactions in order to purchase goods.
We need to solve some other things first such as scalability and I think that we need a coin dedicated to this usage. Bitcoin is for me a way of storing value and I would never use it in order to make daily transactions because I would feel that I buy milk with gold.

And what d'ya think? They disabled this option and abandoned their support for cryptocurrencies some time ago. The official version stated it was due to insane volatility of Bitcoin prices (or whatever other coins they had been accepting). But myself I'm more inclined to think it was rather due to lack of demand from players as with sufficient demand it is easy to hedge against volatility without incurring a lot of financial overhead. If crytpo actively used as payment system the price actually doesn't matter. Say, you are selling t-shirts for BTC, and the price of 1 t-shirt is equivalent to $20. It would be 0.005 BTC per item, if BTC was $4k, or it would be 0.0005 BTC per item if BTC was $40k. The only thing that matters is stability because no one wants ending up with 20% less of the profit if Bitcoin drops 20% before they can exchange it for fiat. And even that situation is manageable because you might as well have the reverse scenario when your profits become higher. So, in the long run the ups and downs compensate each other, and your business doesn't suffer from accepting crypto but rather benefits from that because you have additional customers who wouldn't buy from you otherwise.

Fake crypto exchangers are pretty popular nowadays. The service is made as a true one, but the rates are sp nice that it feels wrong. But thre are some who still buy on that and give thier money. The moment the money has been trasacted the scammers are gone.

Basically, you are assuming two mutually exclusive conditions, i.e. Bitcoin being a full-fledged currency and Bitcoin not being a full-fledged currency. If we assume the former (which you start off with), then you don't need to exchange bitcoins for fiat as that would imply Bitcoin failing as a currency in its own right, i.e. it being only an inferior proxy or substitute for some other currency, say, the US dollar. If Bitcoin becomes a real "all-inclusive" currency, there won't be a need to exchange it for anything other than goods and services

Payment for using Crypto in my opinion is very good and worthy of being applied by many merchants, very simple and not through third parties, aka peer to peer.
Only the level of public understanding of crypto money must be educated and there are pilot projects so that when applied it does not experience many problems.
Most importantly the state must legalize bitcoin, because bitcoin cannot be used for payments as long as it is illegal. The public is afraid of doing activities that are considered illegal by the state.

It`s not changed yet, it`s a process that will take some time. Every merchant needs to work under the law of the country where he works, some countries doesnt have laws about crypto yet, merchant is free to accept crypto for his goods, if he wants that. Banks are not happy with crypto, that`s true, crypto is taking a piece of cake from them. Now people don`t need to spend money on high transaction fees, they can simply use crypto. We are living in the times of changes, they are even close to an end. I believe that in the end entire world will use crypto, so calculate alone where are we now and where we are going.

Crypto transactions are irreversible, once you have sent them you can't reverse it or retrieve it unless the receiver will send it back to you. Some transactions on the Ethereum network are failing and it's about an issue through contract addresses so that's the chance that your transaction can be canceled. Bitcoin isn't like PayPal that you can reverse transactions and asks PayPal's management to cancel any transaction that you have done.

It is manufactured in the local currency of the country, so it has no problem at the banking or government level.

As it is essentially the same in my quarters. Technically, it may not be outright illegal to sell or buy an apartment for, say, US dollars as such, but I have yet to see someone actually denominating the contract price in dollars in a real estate purchase agreement, even though it is an accepted practice to pay with dollars while setting the sales price in the local currency. Basically, you are assuming two mutually exclusive conditions, i.e. Bitcoin being a full-fledged currency and Bitcoin not being a full-fledged currency. If we assume the former (which you start off with), then you don't need to exchange bitcoins for fiat as that would imply Bitcoin failing as a currency in its own right, i.e. it being only an inferior proxy or substitute for some other currency, say, the US dollar. If Bitcoin becomes a real "all-inclusive" currency, there won't be a need to exchange it for anything other than goods and services

That's right, but you are talking about the future all of us here set our hearts on. But unfortunately right now Bitcoin is far from being an "all-inclusive" currency. We have to deal with the reality we find ourselves in. Shop owners can't pay rent in BTC, and they can't pay for the most part of services with this currency either. And yet it is possible to actively use it, and I tried to explain how in my post.

If I'm not mistaken (I haven't sent any bitcoin in the past 4 days or so), there was recently a lot of network congestion and transactions were stuck in the blockchain for about a day or two.  It's all good now, but situations like those really take away from bitcoin's usefulness as a currency.  Who in their right mind would want to use bitcoin and potentially wait a day for a confirmation when they could just as easily pay for something with fiat?  That's always been a deal breaker in my eyes, and it's just one of the reasons why I don't like spending bitcoin on things I could pay for with cash or a debit card.

Bitcoin will probably always be useful for things on the dark markets and for transactions where a little bit of anonymity is needed.  It's also useful for legally grey-area stuff that banks and payment processors don't want to get involved with (cannabis seeds, kratom, you name it).  Other than that, there probably won't be much progress.  When places like Amazon and eBay start jumping aboard, then bitcoin will have hit mainstream.  Until then, its main use is as an investment.

Hi, it's a stable coin. Just google it on the Net.  Speaking briefly, you can keep it in the wallet as other coins/tokens, but transfer them to somebody you want to for free. So it's like you are transfering euros transformed into a stable coin.

I think many have been doing that already since many companies have already allowed cryptocurrencies to be used that way, or a select few of them for that matter. I think, as more and more coins would be accepted by more companies, especially the trusted ones to be used as a payment for goods and services that would open new doors for the horizons of cryptocurrencies. However, for now, it is limited because there still a lot of considerations that companies think of, since we can't hide the fact that cryptocurrencies, in terms of its value, changes in a blink. So, as a company that needs a return for its capital, it would be too difficult to just accept and accept cryptocurrencies knowing how it can be unreliable.

I think many have been doing that already since many companies have already allowed cryptocurrencies to be used that way, or a select few of them for that matter. I think, as more and more coins would be accepted by more companies, especially the trusted ones to be used as a payment for goods and services that would open new doors for the horizons of cryptocurrencies. However, for now, it is limited because there still a lot of considerations that companies think of, since we can't hide the fact that cryptocurrencies, in terms of its value, changes in a blink. So, as a company that needs a return for its capital, it would be too difficult to just accept and accept cryptocurrencies knowing how it can be unreliable.

The real shift for me would be for merchants to start ditching those payment processors that actually doesn't do anything other than make a Bitcoin-fiat gateway. I'd really like to see more "Bitcoin accepted here" signs to mean that merchants are actually using their own Bitcoin wallets, and not forcing customers to pay using something like Bitpay, where they've to pay fees anyway (not to mention the inability now to use RBF or even set reasonable fees, as Bitpay's network insists you pay exorbitant miner fees).

With LN really smoothening out its rough edges too, there could be added incentive. Not sure 2019's the year for that though.

If I'm not mistaken (I haven't sent any bitcoin in the past 4 days or so), there was recently a lot of network congestion and transactions were stuck in the blockchain for about a day or two.  It's all good now, but situations like those really take away from bitcoin's usefulness as a currency.  Who in their right mind would want to use bitcoin and potentially wait a day for a confirmation when they could just as easily pay for something with fiat?  That's always been a deal breaker in my eyes, and it's just one of the reasons why I don't like spending bitcoin on things I could pay for with cash or a debit card.

Yes there was a network congestion in the past week when the market started rising and if you are giving a minimal transaction fees, it would get stuck for days while a few days back it would get through in a couple of years, when the market rises and if there are more transactions the only way to move the coins faster is to increase your transaction fees, i did input less than ten thousand satoshi  and it went through within the next few blocks, transaction fees are still lower.

Bitcoin will probably always be useful for things on the dark markets and for transactions where a little bit of anonymity is needed.  It's also useful for legally grey-area stuff that banks and payment processors don't want to get involved with (cannabis seeds, kratom, you name it).  Other than that, there probably won't be much progress.  When places like Amazon and eBay start jumping aboard, then bitcoin will have hit mainstream.  Until then, its main use is as an investment.

I do agree with some of your sentiment here, but if there are merchants accepting bitcoin, i am sure people will be using that to make their payments instead of using credit cards, you never know how secure those card details will be if you are using it for purchasing online, that is not the case with bitcoin and that is a major difference.

Maybe it is better if you will see the team will be better and better soon and not only the project, maybe it is better if we will just look unto the honesty of the team to the investors and willingness of them to share what must be on the investors, that is the most common problem in cryptocurrency that is why the market was not that good most of the time. The abandonment of the team to their project after sales leads to the negativity to the altcoin industry. A team can create a good coin in the market but they dont have time to sustain it until the further success.

You have a point, cryptocurrencies are way faster than any bank transfer around the world, but people have been comparing cryptocurrencies to cash for a very long time and when compared to cash most cryptocurrencies are very slow, in bitcoin it takes a few minutes just to get one confirmation and if the network is very busy or you are just unlucky it can take a few hours just to get that confirmation.

It is true for some applications but there are some that can end this.

You see, in our country, Bitcoin is legalized and as I told in the past, not all or not that many are using Bitcoin though there is this mobile application, an exchange wherein you can use your Bitcoin to pay for your bills. That is not the only good thing about it, you can send BTC from the same exchange without fees and it is really fast. I guess with that, waiting for your confirmation to pay using Bitcoin will not be a problem.

I agree with your opinion. However, problems with the use of cryptocurrency as a means of payment are actually much more than it seems at first glance. Cryptocurrency should not only be legalized by the state, there should be clear instructions to the relevant government agencies, including tax authorities, on how to apply it to business structures in practice. A serious and practically unsolvable obstacle for business structures is the high price volatility of cryptocurrency. I know that many who first accepted cryptocurrency as a means of payment, then refused to use it for this reason. In addition, the practical application of cryptocurrency from a technical point of view is still very difficult for the average person.

In fact, it is solved pretty easily if you are a cryptopayments processing provider (e.g. BitPay or CoinGate). As they aggregate cryptopayments from and to a lot of clients (e.g. online shops), they can hedge them in bulk, so to speak, and thus make themselves invulnerable and not susceptible to volatility (just in case, simple cryptocurrency users can do essentially the same). Other than that, I'm not sure if those companies which accepted crypto refused to accept for this reason exactly. It seems that bitcoin and other cryptocurrency will be widely used in E-commerce marketplace. And also recently there are many cryptocurrency related e-commerce project that emerged, I think this kind of project will be success in 2019. Although people's enthusiasm to invest in bitcoin is big but it seems that there are more cryptocurrency holders who want to have fun with their bitcoin and spend it directly at somewhere that accept it. Including me, actually.

Crypto payments are like dreams but as the technology is difficult to implement for nontech guys they are struggling for it. but sooner or later they will also implement the ideas and payment methods in their sites. as for now, more and more people are integrating it. imagine how will it be when you can pay for your beer with crytocoins. In fact, it is solved pretty easily if you are a cryptopayments processing provider (e.g. BitPay or CoinGate). As they aggregate cryptopayments from and to a lot of clients (e.g. online shops), they can hedge them in bulk, so to speak, and thus make themselves invulnerable and not susceptible to volatility (just in case, simple cryptocurrency users can do essentially the same). Other than that, I'm not sure if those companies which accepted crypto refused to accept for this reason exactly. Rather than awareness there is no legal support and authorities promote the services. The 2 biggest hurdles are

1) Getting crypto into the hands of people who don't have it so they can spend it, this would require banks or money services such as paypal/western union etc to offer easy, fast, and cheap crypto funding into your wallet.

2) Getting people to spend it, tougher in a bull market as there is the mindset of "losing money" and because transaction fees jump.

Well, it does not matter much, as long as there is a bearish trend, there will be some misgivings for bitcoin payments, because obviously it is obvious, but it should be noted that for February-March 2018, the bearish trend had already passed and it entered the range of market accumulation, hence from there is the opportunity to buy bitcoin much cheaper.

The development, though slowly, continues. The farther away the more computing power will be at our disposal, and the more advanced technologies we will be able to master, which will not only speed up but also improve payment methods using cryptocurrencies.

Bitcoin as a payment method or goods is a fine I think it'll be more convenient and safe to make payments using crypto since you don't need to bring a lot of cash and you can just use your phone to make payment. As for the future of BTC, we really can't tell, indeed it is still on a bear trend for quite a while now but I've seen predictions that the bull run may happen in the coming months considering the increase of demand of bitcoin nowadays. Though there will be an upcoming competition from big companies but I guess bitcoin will not be tamed.

I believe if crypto is used as a payment method for goods then it would be easier to do business, as you can send or receive funds without any problem all over the world.

for this idea I strongly agree that if this is applied in payment methods for business then this will make a lot of people interested, people who don't know will find out about the method of using crypto

It will be learned by those who's not being reached by this system, if they'll see that the service is already available from where they are, curiosity will let them follow it will create good idea to them, imagine the world where crypto already been accepted to any places.

Crypto to be accepted world wide cannot happen in 2019, but it will happen within a decade. There are lot of factors which are preventing bitcoin to be used as a payment method and the major cause of it is the volatility of bitcoin. Bitcoin needs to be stable so that people can trust and have faith on its value.

Well there is a lot of news about crypto as payments that will happen in 2019. first i do think we have heard about starbuck will accept bitcoin and to make it real they partnered with microsoft and with bakkt. In this year also there is a lot of news that XLM are partnering with bank which will help XLM to be use as a payments item.

Many can be done using crypto, one of which is a means of payment, especially in countries that have legalized crypto. But what is now a trend is crypto as an investment, especially bitcoin. This is inseparable from the rising price of bitcoin which is rising high.
Investors in many countries like crypto trading assuming fluctuating prices so that speculators can enjoy both short and long-term benefits.

I'm wondering what's your opinion on the goods purchased in currencies other than euros or dollars, say crypto. I'm aware it's being used as a regular currency in various fields now. There are, for instance, lots of successfully run marketplaces based on crypto out there. 
Over the past year, the market capitalization within crypto soared to the Moon.  Unfortunately, it's been a bear trend for a while now and no one can say for sure when it's gone. However, I am still thinking there's some light at the end of the tunnel - new market, pretty few competitors, great potential. So it's high time to become an active user.

So that begs the questions: Your thoughts on crypto as a payment method? Any progress achieved in the upcoming year?

no one will ready to accept with the payment of cryptocurrency in a proper way because the fear will easily disturb everyone to get payment with the Bitcoin in this situation but after some years then we will definitely expect some changes will be happened in this Crypto market and in all over the world.
