I haven't watched the game and I have a question reading twitter.

Is true that the penalty given to England was an irregular one? They have 2 balls on the pitch according to twitter.

Didn't watch it either, all the games are just way too late for me (so kind of frustrating for all these internationals halfway round the globe!).

But judging from England responses, or rather, lack of responses, nobody there wants to talk about it, which kinda suggests that there is something about it;)

I'm not happy about the penalty that gave England the win. It was not necessary from the referee. I would have liked to see a penalty shootout.

In this tournament they have been very reluctant with the VAR to overturn the referee's initial decision. But I think the rule is they can only overturn it if the referee has made an obvious error. In this case it wasn't an obvious error. There was definitely a touch from the first defender, and then a second foul from the second defender. Sometimes they are given, sometimes not.

I think that it may have been correlated to the fact seconds before another foul was attempted on him. (Maybe not normal either, but I've seen that before).

I don't know though the story with 2 balls, which may have had the game stopped...or not.
But the decision was not right, especially knowing that Sterling is quite a stuntman and the stake of the game is this high. I really don't understand what has happened in the VAR room either; they had records from all the angles... but weren't the technicians providing the records to VAR by chance also Englishmen, since we were at Wembley?

England are in the final wow and Harry Kane got a field goal as the penalty was saved but he got the rebound. I do feel from watching the highlights Kane seemed really good, he even actually deserved the assist for the own goal.

But luck is with the English. They got the own goal and got the rebound. Can Italy survive this luck?

I think Italy vs England is an ideal final, it's like a classic fight between two countries which has a good football competition and a great football history. Both England and Italy have the same great opportunity to become champions, so everything will be decided on the field.

You are right that the chances of both countries are equal to be champions, even though England is the host but often in football it doesn't really matter.
England often are not get good result at big tournament, but maybe it's time for England to lift the trophy.

My guess is the match will be decided in extra time or even a penalty shootout.

They will play very carefully so this possibility is very big.

If there was no own goal, it would be Denmark who would advance to the final. England is very difficult to score goal in normal time. They were confused by the brilliant Danish tactics. Unfortunately, luck said otherwise, Denmark had to be eliminated after extra time.

The second half was not interesting... The English were lucky in extra time to be allowed to kick a very controversial penalty!Especially as there were two balls on the field when Sterling went down! Hopefully in the final, in England, Italy will punish them properly!

Yes, there were three things that were funny about that penalty and why it shouldn't have counted. First, it wasn't a foul, second, as you wrote, there was a second ball on the field so the referee should have blown his whistle before Sterling even got into the box. And third, there was a vice pointer attack on the goalie Schmeichel during the penalty. The English seem to want to steal the long-awaited title by any means. It's like on their first and only title 1966, when they became world champion at home(!) with a goal which was not a goal.

Here in India, matches are scheduled at 12:30 am - 2:30 am. I watched the first semi-final between Spain and Italy, but then it was impossible to watch the second one between England and Denmark, since it happened the very next day. My office work starts at 9am, so I need to get up by around 7:30am-8:00 am, which is not possible if I watch these matches. Now they have scheduled the next match on Sunday, which is again a very poor decision. Ideally they should have scheduled it on Saturday.

The match is equal but England will play at their home stadium, Wembley.

Italy have amazing Euro so far that many of us did not think they can when the Euro starts. Italy looks to have better results in history than England but in a final match, and with equal power for both, either Italy or England will win it.

It will depend on how England starts the final. If they start too hurry, they might be punished by Italian boys.

England does not have good record in penalty shootouts so as Italy but if the match goes with penalty, I believe in Italy and Donnarumma. The young goal keeper is very talented and seems to have good penalty-saving skills.

These are the normal times for all matches.
The same happens when the games are outside Europe, the times are the same in the country where the games take place.

The final is usually on Sunday, because normally in these international competitions there is a third and fourth place game, which takes place on Saturday. It's true that at the European Football Championship this game doesn't exist. But keep the same standard calendar.

Actually Denmark did played quite well against England yesterday as they were still able to force England into extra time. In my opinion, Denmark have an easier route to get into the semi finals as their opponents starting from the round of 16 was Wales and Czech Republic but I guess England was just too strong for Denmark to handle. With England successfully progressing into the finals, I believe it will be an exciting match between England and Italy as both of these teams are in excellent form at the moment.

A lot of things have been said about the penalty yesterday, I have to agree with the most saying it wasn't one. I looked at it again a few times this morning, the contact is there but it is minimal.
The referee gave it immediately and I knew that VAR would not overturn it but it was a mistake not telling him he needs to see for himself.

England was much better and deserved to go through to the final though - but it will be hard to take for the Danes.

I would disagree with you that the Italian team is in great shape.
  After the match with Spain, it seemed to me that they have problems in the team play and the placement of players.  But this is just my personal opinion.  I cannot say 100% that by July 11th they will not be able to fix their mistakes.   Perhaps even already done!  
In any case, two excellent teams made it to the final and it promises to be interesting.  I'm looking forward to the game.

jokes aside, England deserved the win. Denmark were very poor but mainly cos their opponent dominated the entire match.

I totally agree but the main man, the ref didnt use it, he relied on someone in a studio.

He should have taken a look himself, that is what the side line screen is for, especially at
a crucial time in the match.

Yes I'm not sure Italy is in excellent form, Spain were able to improve their game and
negate Italy's effectiveness. England really had the upper hand against Denmark but
werent able to finish a lot of chances, I think 50/50 is about right.

Have you seen the own goal, though? It's not like he belted it in from the edge of the area, or it took a huge deflection that wrong-footed the keeper. It's extremely harsh to call it carelessness. Basically the ball was coming to Sterling, a couple of yards out in front of an empty net. The defender could either hit it in himself, or let Sterling do it. It would have been a miracle if he'd managed to stop the ball going in.

Kane's penalty was weak, and he was certainly lucky that the rebound came to him. Similarly they were lucky to be awarded the penalty. But...
England were unlucky:
1. not to get a penalty earlier,
2. to concede the foul for Denmark's free-kick goal,
3. when Sterling's shot from point-blank range hit Schmeichel's body,
4. the numerous times the ball pinged about in the Denmark area and didn't fall to an English player.

Both teams had chances, but who, really, on the balance of play, had the better chances and was the better team? England deserved to go through.

As for the final though, Italy are better than England and have to be favourites.

What do you mean by team play? Is it like set pieces from free kicks and corners?

There's that popular phrase that says styles makes the difference in a fight. I think Spain's ability to keep the ball and great passing is what made them a tough match up for Italy.

England is playing differently which I think is more suitable for Italy's style.
I find it tough to pick a winner or if both teams will score.

Of course I will be looking for England to win for 120 minutes without a penalty. But if there is a penalty maybe Italy can do better and win. I'm not very optimistic about the England goalkeeper's performance, at times he looked nervous and gave the wrong passes. I'm guessing 2-1 for England in 120 minutes.

This is an easy straight bet for England at 1.76 - 1.80 depending on what book you use.  But if you guys want to squeeze out more value then going for England to win to nil at 2.50 should be good.  England has been keeping a clean sheet as of late.

A win for England ? Possible... An easy one ? I think not.

Denmark in my opinion will definitely ask more questions of the England's defense than the Ukrainians did in the Quarter finals. I would not expect an easy win and Denmark to score is likely outcome in you ask me, the only game in which they've failed to score in this tournament was in their opening fixture, in which of course everyone expected them to win effortlessly if not for the unfortunate occurrence.

Turned out you were right.  I didn’t factor in that it was the semis and Denmark wants to bring it home as bad as any in the tourney.  Those fouls commited by Denmark alone should pretty much show how much the wanted to win it...  Too bad Sterling knew what was up and dived his way to get the soft penalty.  ROFL.
