I think the religious nuances don't matter because it's not really about religion. Ankalaev has wanted Alex for a long time and the UFC gave him this fight when he was at his weakest. Ankalaev didn't have any other choice or option at this point.

Centralized systems always protect and defend someone. On the one hand, the cover face of the UFC game, on the other, a less popular fighter who has the potential to crush him. UFC, being a corporation, was motivated by financial considerations and chose Ankalaev's most difficult moment for this fight.


Wouldn't it be better if instead of a centralized system, an AI or public vote or independent delegates determined by UFC fans organized the matchups?

I'm a viewer who wants to watch the best fight, why would I want to watch a fight where one fighter is at a disadvantage and the other is polished?

Does anyone really think Alex Pereira needs this?

What I understand about Ramadan - focus of this month is on spiritual life and acts of mercy. Fasting + forbidden to lie, hurt people, get angry. But isnt all that spiritual or mental only? (if I say that I wont curse, say something or think bad about someone - does it counts as following partly Ramadan?) Ankalaev say that due to fasting and other forbidden things, he will have to train less, less intensively and physically wont be 100% prepared. Ok, but google search lead me to:

When someone cannot fast in Ramadan and can’t make up the lost days afterwards (for example, because of a long-term health condition), then they should pay (fidya) for someone else to be fed.

Once again, I am a noob in religion, but doesnt that means that you can make a donation and partly follow Ramadan? Then where is the problem with Ramadan with Ankalaev? Beat Pereira, give all money as donation, keep belt and be happy.

They are the children of people who salah/namaz in the midst of bombs falling on them while defending their homeland. Hard times make hard people. When a person catches a cold, he may miss some of his prayers, but they may miss their prayers only when they are undergoing surgery under anesthesia... :)

Also, even if Ankalaev is using this as an excuse, the UFC and Poatan should not have given him this opportunity. This is not a football match. The same sides won't be able to meet 3 or 4 times a year...

Wild theory. Lets suppose that Pereira is a huge UFC asset that generates lots of money. Lets suppose that Ankalaev wins and takes the belt. What next? What UFC plan to do, if the belt goes to a guy with zero media? Remember how people predict his move to heavyweight, how he could become a guy who had 3 belts (if he win Bones or Aspinal he-he), how huge his legacy could be. And now UFC are dumping their milking cow.

Pereire already trolled Ankalaev nicely by asking if he would bet on his win, and Ankalaev has refused that bet offer If Ankalaev was sure in his, he would bet on his win, but he dropped that offer. Pereira is already winning it mentally 1:0.

It should be noted that this title fight was very much wanted by Ankalaev and at the first opportunity he failed because the fight ended in draw, I know that Ankalaev is Muslim and he is fasting but that is not barrier and will be trigger to be more enthusiastic and make Pereira not be able to talk much after the fight.

Maybe the UFC tends to favor Pereira because he is fighter who makes lot of money and can always create sensational fights, but it is not impossible for Pereira to lost, I still give Ankalaev slight advantage and make him the favorite.

Super fun. One cant speak English and best of him are "huh?" and "Chama", second one is like fish Fiziev who isnt much of a talker as well. I am also a Muslim, but a cultural Muslim. There is no traditional behaviour of the Muslim community to give someone special permissions or privileges. As I said before, people who are used to living under difficult conditions do not change their habits when they see another new difficulty. As I said before, people who are used to living under difficult conditions do not change their habits when they see another new difficulty. That's what being conservative is in essence, and I think being conservative is a concept that encompasses religion...

As I said before, the issue is not directly related to religion, and different denominations' different interpretations of the issue may push us out of the UFC discussion...

I think we have to try to understand them. They didn't come into the world under comfortable conditions like the rest of us. My mother never sang songs of war and epics. I'm guessing yours didn't either. We are not the fruits of the same garden.

So, Ankalaev gave up fasting because he had to accept this fight. This may make him only a little sinful in religious terms, but in the society in which he lives he is probably a greater offender than a sinner.

It was never my intention to talk about religion here, I don't want to be misunderstood. I'm just trying to say that the UFC could have avoided this controversy a long time ago by planning a better schedule...

It could mean he isn't fasting and will still be eating food recommended by his nutritionist for conditioning. It is still under strict regulation and may not even eat something like fried Chicken or Biryani but at least he isn't going to drop his energy down to a point where he couldn't even throw a punch.

He wanted this fight so badly but he didn't expect UFC would give him the hard time as if he is the villain in the industry. But this is how they treated Tom Aspinal back then.

Dunno about you guys but just from what I'm seeing with Ankalaev, I think he'll wrestle fck Pereira even if he has been saying from a few weeks back that it will be all striking.  And looking at how Fiz is, I think he feels like he hit a jackpot when he was called by the UFC to fight Gaethje on short notice.  It's basically a short cut for him.

It would be fair if he would say from the very beginning that he isnt going to follow fasting. Why try to fool people? You can be half-rule follower. Or I follow Ramadan on even days, and train/drink/eat on odd. What about such person as Mullah in Islam religion? I though that such person can give sort of an allowance not to follow fasting completely. There must be a loophole, otherwise would do Muslims do during war, or when they are sick if it is Ramadan time? Or if woman is pregnant, she also is not allowed to drink water? Imho Ankalaev should not have mentioned so many times about Ramadan and that he wasnt able to fight at that time.

My first thought is what will happen if this belt goes to a guy who has almost no fans, it is not something that will benefit UFC.
Perreria gets so much attention in the media, how many times has he saved the main cards in the most difficult times.
Ankalaev is much better in wrestling, but Perreria seems like he can defend him, this is just an assumption. If he continues on his feet, Perreria will have a chance to knock him out. The legendary match of two cold-blooded fighters is a few days away.

Looks like a perfect plan to close my mortgage. "A plan that is stable as swiss watch" But, to prove that it is fake, look at amount of early finishes 4/5 fights wont go full distance. I think this is rare thing to happen in main card and in numerical event.

Since its Friday, its is time for some fun and weird stuff.

Former UFC fighter, Aleksei Oleinik, a guy with nickname Boa Constrictor, submission master, signed for BKFC and will be having a debut Aprils 4. A guy who has 48/61 fights ended with submission will try to knock out a guy with 28 out of 45 finishes with KO. Seems like a stupid idea.

If I were you, then I wouldn't try to bet on what the data looks like, a few days ago google made a mistake by setting an incorrect rate against my country's currency exchange and not long after google issued a statement of a technical error and immediately corrected it, but with the leaks related to the UFC fight results so far I have not seen any confirmation and statements from google, so I don't think the information is really accurate and if you bet based on this information then you are taking a big risk of losing.

LOL...  Pereira won via sub at R2 it says...    Man if that happens then Pereira should fight Tom Aspinall next for the real belt at HW, strip Jon Jones off.  Jones has become somewhat uninteresting now unless the fight is vs Aspinall.  Other than that, does anybody still get excited to watch him fight?
