I feel that Bitmain is skimping on the PSU. Assuming that they're using Enermax ERV1000EWT-G 80 Plus Gold which is approximately 90% efficient at around full load (996W or 83A total on the 12V rail), the S2 would be drawing around 900WDC (1000WAC at the wall*90%) from this PSU. That's a 90% (900W/996W) continuous load 24/7. That's too close for comfort. A 1200W PSU (75% load) would be more appropriate. Personally, I prefer a 1500W PSU (60% load) for the S2; much closer to peak efficiency which is at 50% load. Bitmain should offer an option to sell the S2 without a power supply at an appropriately reduced price so we could supply our own PSU just like with the S1s or get rid of the relatively puny 1000-Watter and use at least a 1200W premium PSU. The cost difference for them shouldn't be that much especially when purchased in bulk. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817194101I agree on the bit about the PSU. Although I do not own the S2 nor do I plan to(friggin' expensive but understandable) the PSU is not enough. If the miner uses over 1kW then a 1000w PSU is simply not enough.

This looks awesooooome. Not upset that I bought my Terraminer at the cost I did, but I do wish I knew this was being released now. Can't afford one at the moment, but will certainly be buying a few once the price is right.

It would be good to have the option to purchase one without a power supply so we can use our own 1200+ supplies. I plan to pick one of these up after the first batch has been reviewed.

Yeah I don't want to buy one with the PSU included. 12vdc server supplies are available in nearly limitless quantities for pennies on the dollar. I'd rather Bitmain shave off $200 the price (maybe have options for with and without PSU?)

If underclocked it is already pulling 1000W, you would need to add a PSU. I do not see how they will run without a 1200W PSU if they really draw 1000W.
They were very clear on the first post that it draws 1000 W at the wall. Assuming 85% efficiency that means 850 W draw for the boards.

Now I'm really torn between Gridseed and Bitmain At this price I'm really unsure. Gridseed is Avalon. They deserve zero support from the miner community.

Bitmain can you please create an option to ship without PSU so I can overclock this bad boy to 2 + Th/S
..
Do you honestly think you can overclock it 2TH, that a 100% increase. You would likely have to add more power supply capacity, increase cooling, and bump the voltage (probably swapping a bunch of SMT resistors), and you might still find that the DCDCs couldn't handle the increased load. Still I'd like to see someone try.

As a rule of thumb, it's not a good idea to demand more than a 80% continuous load from a PSU. Sustained loads close to the maximum output will decrease power efficiency and significantly reduce the expected operating life. Your estimates are the same as mine: considering Bitmain's claimed power draw of 1000W at the wall, we can assume that the power supply is operating at around 90% of maximum output. Even if it's operating at just 85% of maximum output, that is still an uncomfortably high level for a continuous load. I feel that it would have been more prudent to offer a 1200W power supply to keep the load at 70-75% of maximum capacity, or allow customers to select their own. I would appreciate the option to purchase an S2 without a PSU so that I have an opportunity to select a more suitable PSU of my own choice.

also for customs
bitmain
what you will have to write as value?
Will you shut up about customs ffs. You think they can't read a public forum. Anything like that you should take to the supplier directly and privately.

A rule of thumb is exactly what is sounds like... after what Bitmain has done with the S1, completely blasting the competition out of the water, do you all think they are going to screw up such a simple little thing like supplying a psu that will blow up in your house? Even a newbie like me can figure out what size psu one 'should' use, but they are actually testing them which kinda holds more ground that a rule of thumb... imo of course.

may be S2 more complex connection to PSU. So if buy it without PSU, big risk in your hand. May be your S2 will damage caused not suitable in PSU. Bitcoin Mining is time is money. You want price cut about $200 for PSU, but if S2 delivered in your home without PSU. May be you need one, two or three days to find suitable PSU for S2. You'll loss money..
So, I suggest if buy S2 with PSU completely. I trust bitmaintech tested about PSU in S2. PSU in China more cheap.
For bitmaintech, I hope for customer S1, give more coupon/discount for buy S2. I hope price more cheap for S2..

Doesn't shipping with a PSU make it more difficult when exporting? Doesn't the supplier have to get the entire thing through some sort of US or EU approval?

Now Juan is showing again in stock...this time is 5 S2's...?1
Some orders has Bitcoin Payment and we do not receive the payment so I cancel the unpaid orders in Bitcoins 1 hour after Hi Juan, Just to be clear, are the S2s that you're showing on your site definitely headed to you from the 1st batch? Also, how soon after the 1st can we expect to have possession, given the $ for this pre-order? The reason I ask is, the S1s are available now, and the 2nd batch is due to be available on April 10th? Thanks

It's not a rule of thumb. It's called Physics. Specs are not mere random numbers and are provided for a reason. If you wanna load your PSU close to 100% load, then knock yourself out. Ford blasted the competition too at one point or another but then they also made the Pinto.

for person not sure about PSU can't supply S2.. Please read my analyze PSU S2 using : 1000W produced by Enermax, 80PLUS gold This link about this PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817194101wrote in datasheet : +12V1@30A, +12V2@30A, +12V3@30A, +12V4@30A So this PSU can supply 4 x 30 A = 120 Ampere This PSU can supply = 12 x 120 = 1440 WattS2 need 1000 Watt.. So this PSU can supply S2..
