I’m not sure if those rumors are true, but what made Alapag return to the PBA? Is his salary here bigger than what he made in the US? Just curious.

Jimmy Alapag's contract with the Sacramento Kings as a player development coach is already over in April, he announced that in his social media, saw it personally but i thought that he will be extended but it wasn't. Salary-wise i think the salary as a player development coach is way bigger that a head coach here in the PBA but returning here in his home country with his family is a great thing.

With this recent development, I believe NLEX could greatly benefit from Alapag’s wealth of experience, having witnessed firsthand how an NBA team operates up close and personal.

If this happens in nlex , there could be a chance that they will now be able to break the barrier in making a debut in the finals, but it migjt depend on what the team and management will be able to push the players, although they are always in the semis match up, in the future they will have a chance.

It is not only the coach that is important, but the players as well. Looking at their current roster, I don’t think they have the same quality of players as SMB and Ginebra, so they really need to build a good roster. Maybe Coach Alapag can do that, as long as he gets full support from the team owner. The problem is, in the PBA, most teams are still connected to either Pangilinan or SMB, so it is hard to expect real competition here.
Sometimes its not the players but having a coach like jimmy can develop a player that is waiting to be polish, nlex has players, i think they can be a cotender, SMB now is nearing end of the peak although junmar can still have years i dont think that they can still have players , unless they get now on the fsrm teams which is nor ready to pick

I won’t expect that much though, but of course I would love to see a new team excel and become champion, because it is always SMB, Ginebra, and TNT.

We need to see other teams winning the championship too, so the PBA will become more interesting to watch. But here is one thing that I really worry about, on the revenue side, will the fans still come to the arena if their favorite team, like Ginebra, is not in the Finals?

There will be a tune-up game for Gilas, hopefully we can watch it live.

Based on the vlogs I saw, they said that this team is also as good as the team Gilas will face, or maybe even better. So watching this game will give us a preview of what could possibly happen in the real game. And if Gilas wins this tune-up game in a dominant way, then I guess I will be more confident betting on them on the moneyline, especially if they are the underdog, which is likely.

The Philippine team, set to fly to New Zealand this Tuesday, June 23, takes on the Jets on June 28 in the team’s Fly Palmy Arena in the Manawatu-Whanganui Region.

Two days after, Gilas takes on the Bulls at the Franklin Pool and Leisure Centre.

“It's very rare to get to see a team like the Philippines in person, let alone at home at the Stockyard. The Bulls can't wait to host Gilas Pilipinas and we are excited to welcome fans of both teams. This is going to be a great exhibition of basketball,” Bulls Club Director, Scott Kelso said at the bullbasketball.nz website.

The Jets and the Bulls play in New Zealand’s National Basketball League, the country’s professional cage loop.

Tune-up games are normally closed-door games, but I believe there will still be videos that will come out after the game. But what we read or hear from vloggers might not always be true, because Team NZ should still be the better team since they are the ones representing the country.

But don’t worry guys, Gilas is an improved team now. Just believe that they will be able to have a competitive game against NZ, and they might even upset the home team.

His experience in the NBA could help the current players of NLEX in terms of developing themselves. He's a player development coach, and even though the Kings as a team was trash for years, I would say that his knowledge and experience that he got there will be a big help for the NLEX team.

Maybe one reason is that nobody contacted him after his contract with Sacramento Kings, and he wants to have a continuous source of income thus, going back to PBA and be a coach for a team which TBH he deserves it. Let's see though if the Road Warriors will not do what they did last conference where they went number 1 in the standings, but got bounced back in the quarterfinals by the 8th seeded TNT. I'm excited to see how the Road Warriors as a team will perform with their new head coach.

I believe the Kings were not a trash team, at least when Fox was still there.

You still remember that, I almost forgot about it. And yes, that was really disappointing because they ended up as the number one team but lost twice and got eliminated. That cannot happen again, and hopefully Coach Alapag really brings something to the team that will make them a championship team. But with the current lineup, I think there needs to be a big change here.

Or let’s see, maybe I am just underestimating the current roster.

Chance is not that big but we do hope that they will bring a decent game against NZ, let see if there's a live streaming site or social media platforms that will share this tune up game, PH Nationals should carefully study every details, if how they possibly counter what's the system of their opponents, though we should expect that they will use the experienced that they will learn to adjust and adopt it with their system.

Congratulations to Gilas for beating the Jets in their tune-up game. No Brownlee, no problem.

It was a very dominant win, and now I believe that Gilas has really improved and has a chance of beating New Zealand.
Did anyone here happen to bet on that game? I was not able to check the lines, so if you bet, what was the spread?

I think there were no betting odds for this fight, otherwise we would have already seen a betslip posted here, especially from Bisdak because he likes posting those.

And by the way, here are the full stats of the game.

It was well distributed, and if this is the way Gilas will play, Brownlee would not have to carry them on his shoulders.

We are seeing what this team is capable of. Winning by that big margin without Brownlee is something big. New Zealand will surely respect Gilas, and if they can replicate that kind of performance against New Zealand, I’m pretty sure Australia will also take them seriously. I think there is still another tune-up game coming, correct me if I’m wrong.

Agree to that kabayan if they continue to play at that same level, surely both NZ and Aussie will take them seriously, we've seen those young stars contributing decent numbers, that's the stats that I really wanted to see out from them, knowing that they do have fresh legs and their international exposures after playing overseas for sure that's contributes a lot with their experence, hopefully CTC will keep them in that same minutes alongside with JBL once the set games already being played.

So another exhibition game is happening tomorrow. If this will be another big win, then I guess Gilas can really take down NZ.

And for sure Brownlee will play tomorrow because there is no way he will still rest. They need to build good chemistry because after that tune-up, the real game is already coming. I hope they can avenge their loss on their home court, but this time on NZ’s home court.

Yes kabayan, hopefully he'll be able to play they need to establish that chemistry as we've seen new sets of players are being used by CTC, JBL 's presence should be activated during this exhibition game, I would love to see him working with those young generation superstars as they've got a much stronger opponents that's waiting for them this upcoming FIBA games.

I was checking the betting lines and hoping I could bet on this game, but unfortunately there was none available. Maybe we have no choice, if we want to bet, we can only do that against the national team of New Zealand. But we can increase our wager since we were not able to bet on these 2 tune-up games.

I think Gilas is ready to face them, but it still depends on the outcome of today’s game. Hopefully, we will win.

I saw some updates on the tune-up game today, and it seems Gilas is winning again by a huge margin.
If that is true, then it means they are really ready to face their real challenge.

I just want to post it here as a reminder.
The game will be on July 3, 2026 at 3 PM. That is Friday, and hopefully we can watch it live, even if we are in the office during that time, especially for the working guys here.

It was already over and yes another big win by Gilas. here's the story..

https://www.facebook.com/PHSportsBureau/posts/final-score-gilas-pilipinas-94-66-franklin-bulls-gilas-pilipinas-cruised-to-a-do/1576878214016437/
Quote
𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐀𝐋 𝐒𝐂𝐎𝐑𝐄: 🇵🇭 Gilas  94 – 66 Bulls 🇳🇿
Gilas Pilipinas cruised to a dominant 94-66 victory over the host Franklin Bulls despite playing without Justin Brownlee and Mike Phillips, both of whom were rested by head coach Tim Cone as a precaution ahead of the team's FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 Asian Qualifiers Window 3 opener against the New Zealand Tall Blacks on July 3.
A convincing performance and another confidence-boosting win as Gilas gears up for the games that matter most.
Great win, Gilas!

Thanks for the reminder. Let’s just update here, because personally, I don’t know what channel to tune in to.
If there is a live stream, that would be better, especially if it is free on YouTube.

Yeah, I also saw that news on my social media feed. The score is 94-66 in favor of the Gilas and coach Tim Cone even rested Justine Brownlee and Mike Phillips on that game as a precaution ahead of the team's qualifying games against New Zealand this July 3. One thing i observe though in this friendly games that they had on NZ, it is almost as if it were being played in the Philippines as most of the crowd present were cheering for the PH team.

Unfortunate though that there were no betting odds for these friendly games that they had so we can't bet for our Gilas for now, we have to wait until July 3 to bet for Gilas against New Zealand, wonder what the odds on that game will be.

Don’t worry about that, the real game is happening a few days from now, so we can just reserve our bet for that game.

I believe there is a huge chance that Gilas will be able to beat New Zealand. We got this, kabayan, this is the revenge that we are waiting for.
For me, I will still go with the moneyline, but of course only with an amount I can afford to lose.
