This is still related to Philippine basketball although from another league. Have you seen guys the game on MPBL by Bulacan and Bacolod? Bacolod team didn't scored for the last 8 minutes in the 4th quarter.  Score of the game was Bulacan (94) and (64) Bacolod. The memes are incredible and said that due to this fixed game, Bacolod probably bet for under 170 total points. We as sports bettors have an idea of what they did. Passing the ball obviously when it's not needed, shooting were out of hand, so crazy game. No respect anymore to these teams.

I’m not saying right away that it was fixed, but that kind of situation should at least be looked into, especially when betting is involved and the total could be affected. If Manny Pacquiao still has influence in the league, I remember hearing before that he doesn’t tolerate game fixing. There were already cases where players or officials got punished, if I’m not mistaken.

MPBL is already a professional league, so this is not a small issue anymore. Some bettors probably lost serious money if something suspicious really happened in that game.

MANILA, Philippines -- After a controversial, eyebrow-rising game, the Bacolod Masskara kissed their season goodbye after being suspend by the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) on Thursday.

This, as Bacolod's players and coaches were slapped with bans “in light of recent allegations concerning potential game-manipulation.”

And they were banned too, which is the price they paid for making the fixing look too obvious.

The league had to act. If they ignored something like that, people would start losing trust and eventually stop watching.
So I think the punishment was right.

Though honestly, if it wasn’t that obvious, I doubt there would have been the same level of investigation.

Terrible game play, right? Showing the obvious that they're not chasing for any more score because it's either their boss or someone from their management has bet millions for the ending total points made of the game. It's really fixed, try to find some other replays and how they're shooting on the three and passing the ball by mistake intentionally. As we thought that this might be a contender against the PBA but not anymore when these match fixing is vulgar.

Good thing done by the management by acting quickly in it so that it won't imitated by other teams which probably are planning to do the same in their next games.

I think this is not the first time that they have done this game fixing, the other games might not be obvious so they don't care investigating. That is why i will not bet on MPBL because of the integrity of the teams that were playing as some of the teams are easily bribe. GAB should investigate deeper and if possible file charges to those persons involved in this scandal.

I still don't trust Ginebra because their import for is a little bit erratic scoring-wise so i will go for the Bolts for tonight.

Meralco lost badly to Magnolia in their last game, 112-98, but they’ve had enough rest since then. I’m expecting them to come back more prepared tonight.

I know Ginebra is the favorite and probably still the most popular team in the PBA, but the way both teams played in their previous games makes me lean toward Meralco here. Ginebra just came from a blowout win, and I don’t think they’ll repeat that kind of performance tonight.

Lost my bet here mate, RJ Abarrientos was very hot on that game exploding for 27 points. That was a sloppy game but Ginebra played much better than Meralco, that was understandable as the Bolts were missing key players to injuries. Bong Quinto, Raymond Almazan, CJ Cansino and  Jason Brickman didn't play. If only i knew that Quinto, Cansino and Brickman wouldn't play, could have bet for Ginebra .


SMB and TNT will be playing tonight in the second game of the double header. Same with Meralco, TNT are going to be underman tonight as Pogoy, Oftana, Rosser and Castro will not see action tonight. On papers, this would be an easy game for the Beermen so i will be rooting for them tonight.

Haven't heard any update after the first issue of game fixing. Did anyone end up in jail? Manny filed a formal complaint, and in 2021, the DOJ recommended filing a criminal case. After that, I don't know what happened next.

But I believe this won't be the last, and there are probably also incidents of game fixing, it's just that others did it better, like making it less obvious.

As long as the law is not as strict as in the US when caught for game fixing, they will probably continue doing it but with better skills so they won't get caught. Severe punishment is one of the keys so they will at least have some fear or think twice before doing it.

If the president of MPBL was someone like Atong, I doubt they would have the courage to openly do game fixing.

I know what you’re thinking. You’re comparing it to the missing sabungeros, and thinking that maybe the same thing could happen to basketball players.

But I think it would be harder with players because they are well-known. People see them on TV, so it would be easier to notice and identify them compared to sabungeros, where most people don’t even know who they are. Anyone can enter a cockpit, so it’s harder to track them.

Still, if it already happened to those sabungeros, then maybe it’s also possible for something similar to happen. You really can’t rule it out completely. But now that the person is already wanted, I think he’s probably gone into hiding.

The ban would affect the overall reputation of the Bacolod Masskara from players, coaches, sponsor and to the whole organization but I think it's not enough. They should find the real match fixer as it would most likely happen again on other leagues.

Not having a score on a basketball match for 7 minutes is crazy, they are not fighting pba players at this point but it is very obvious that it's match fixing. How did their coach doesn't react to this as it is too obvious.

MPBL and other leagues should impose fines to this type of act.

Yup, SMB has a poor shooting in the 1st half of the game but they managed to came back in the second half and even sent the game into overtime but fell short. This time it was the heroics of Kim Aurin that saves the day for TNT as his last shot went in plus a foul. Damn, i jut can't believe that TNT is winning games even without their key players. I might not bet against them on their next game as i'm unlucky if i go against them.

What they did to Ginebra was impressive. They really dominated the game and won by double digits. Xavier Lucero also showed how good he is tonight. He finished with a double-double, 24 points and 10 rebounds.

As for the imports, they didn’t look that dominant compared to San Miguel’s import last night. George King was really good, although SMB still lost that game.

If you already knew Magnolia would pull off that kind of upset, the odds would have been huge.

Some local sportsbooks probably had an option like Magnolia to win by 11 points or more. Since they were the underdog, the odds for that should have been much higher than the regular moneyline. Looking at the result now, it seems like easy money. But of course, it’s only easy to say after the game. Imagine putting 10,000 or even 100,000 on that bet.

That was impressive game indeed for the Hotshots, Zavier Lucero was hot in the first two quarters of the game, he scored 22 points in the first half. While Ginebra was struggling to get their rhythm early as the usual offensive scorers of Ginebra failed to deliver especially RJ Abarrientos who got only 6 points across his name while Grigsby only scored 15 points, far from his average of 20+ points. If Brownlee won't replace Grigsby, i will continue to bet against Ginebra if they are up against stronger opponents.

That's really huge Kabayan, but just like what you've said it easy when the game was done but when picking side when placing your bet especially if you are risking decent amount, you'll be looking for a much better chance and handicap might be fit for it, though for those who've got a big nerve in risiking their money it's a win or lose situation just pure gambling and everything will be move forward after whatever the outcome.

Hopefully they can keep it up. Last time, they were also the number one team, but they still lost even with a twice-to-beat advantage.

This time, the setup looks different. They have a different coach now and more experience, so I trust this team more, especially with their 5-0 record.

Still, we shouldn’t be too confident yet. But of course, you don’t reach 5-0 if you’re not a good team.

With Jimmy Alapag on board, NLEX has improved much and yup they are playing with confidence right now but say that they will win the championship, i think it is very early yet as they have not meet all the teams yet but for sure they will go deep once the quarterfinals begin.

The line open at 4.5 but it is now down to 2.5 with NLEX the slight favorite for this game which is understandable because TNT will be playing tonight without most of their core players like Pogoy, Oftana, Rosser and Castro. What you write doesn't make too much sense. If TNT is confirmed missing a lot of players, why is the line going down for them? The money line odds for NLEX has been 1.45 like 1-2 hours ago, now suddenly it's as high as 1.72 . For a team that is 5:0 so far, playing against a team that is missing several guys and is only 3:2, this doesn't make too much sense, right? I feel there is something cooking with this one so I would rather stay away from it tbh. Classic strange PBA line movement that misses any reasoning for it.
