PH vs. Bahrain game yesterday was incredibly close.

If you watched the whole game, you know it was never really close. Gilas was only able to cut the lead during garbage time, but at that point there was already no real chance for them to win. That was a loss against a team with four naturalized players, some of them even NBA-caliber, so our local players simply could not match that kind of lineup. The real convincing win was against Kazakhstan, because that was basically local players vs local players, and Gilas dominated that game.

The biggest game for Gilas will be tomorrow against China.

There are no betting odds yet, but after seeing how Gilas played in their last games, I wouldn't hesitate to back them again on the handicap.

+10.5 might be a bit low considering how strong China is, but if we get something like +15.5, I think that's a fair line.

If we will look at the game results against Bahrain, this match against China doesn't look good for Gilas. They lost to Bahrain by 4 points, while China dominated Bahrain with a 46 points difference. Things just got worse. Gilas started the second half well, but China was simply too strong. We couldn't even attack the paint because of the size they had inside.

This tournament really wasn't for us. We didn't send our best players and still expected to compete for the title, that's probably asking too much.
And being the defending champion makes this kind of loss even more embarrassing.

We better rest this early because even if we didn't get eliminated in that game, we still didn't really have much of a chance.

Gilas' 3pt shooting was supposed to be their weapon against China's size, but it just didn't happen because our shooting was really awful.

We can't really blame them too much though, they are not even the best players we have in the Philippines and yet they were the ones representing us. If this was the same team that played in Manila, I think things could have been very different.

Even the bookies knew that this current Gilas team is weak. They were given +25.5, and at first it looked like a gift, but after the game they lost by more than 50 points, so that handicap ended up looking very easy.

Sometimes the line really says a lot. We may have an idea of what Gilas can do, but the bookies also know how strong the opponent is, and in this case they were not wrong.

With the way China played, I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they end up winning the championship.

It's 37 points to be exact, BUT WHO CARES ABOUT THAT NOW!!!.
It's embarrassing to say at least, and even though I knew already that this will happen, still I can't prevent myself from getting disappointed knowing that the team had all the time to build the roster for the Asian Games.

We didn't even see the roster who won the title last year. We didn't see any players from that roster, and who did they selected? Other players, and no offense to them because they're good as well, but this just shows that we didn't even care to defend the title in the first place. I think this just shows that our players is regressing, and other countries are becoming better and better. There has been a lack of preparation on this tournament, and who would win a title when your biggest player on the team isn't even a 7-footer or at least a great defender. No offense, but we just saw how China crushed our team.

It might be sad for some, but not for me because like what I said, I knew that this will be the ending. I just hope that our national team will be more serious in building the roster next time. Japan on the other hand is just becoming better and better, but our team? Becoming worse and worse. Sad, but that's the truth.

Yeah, i agree with you that it was better that Gilas didn't make to the quarterfinals as it is no use at all, i mean they will still be beaten black and blue by the Korean squad so as not to prolong the agony it is better to go home this early as that was we have expected of them. The Chinese squad knew that we would advance to the quarters if we lose by less than 38 points so they made sure that Gilas won't advance, sort of a revenge of what Gilas has did to them 4 years ago.

Now the senate of the Philippines wants to tackle this issue why we have not send the best players to represent in the Asian Games but i think it is too late now, they should have make some noise last month so SBP could make some moves on forcing those players to be present on the Gilas squad.

I don't know if they are truly disappointed by the worst showing of Gilas so far in the Asian Games or it might just for show. Yeah, they have the power to allocate some budget to recruit promising players to be made naturalized but they are quite on that one. Let us remember that Benie Boatwright was just recently approved on his application for being a naturalized player.

After all this is all about the money, i mean if the mother team of some players won't approved that their players will be playing in the Asian games then the player itself will just heed to that because he might loss the contract that he needed much.

Also this Asian Games is not FIBA sanction so games internationally is ongoing and just create a conflict of schedules for players playing overseas.

Even with Team China, I don't think that's the best team they can send since they're also composed of young players, but they were still very dominant.

I think we should also consider building a strong backup team, not just relying on one best lineup, because there are many tournaments we need to compete in.

We don't really know what happens behind the scenes with the negotiations and player availability, but once someone wears the Gilas jersey, people will naturally expect a lot. If they lose, criticism will come, that's just normal.

I've watched a hearing not in the senate but in the congress that the PSC was asked if they can do the same thing that Vietnam and Thailand does about empowering the new athletes and having like boot camps. They have answered that they are no longer focusing in basketball but in other sports which I think is a good answer as long as the other athletes and individuals who has the chance to bring home gold medals being supported.

Lack of preparation, lack of coordination and lack of focus on getting that medal. Who's to blame for this? Gilas? PBA? it's sad that the team lost and they can point that they cut the budget for it.
