Gambling as a profession: there's people who live out of gambling?

I know there are tons of way to live.

but is there such a thing as professional gamblers?

people who make a living onlyout of gambling (online or on rl)?

resources and comments on that are really welcome.

I have a friend that ca be consider as professional gambler as even though he has a small business in life that ca atleast sustainable for his family yet big portion of he’s living materials camping from the winnings in gambling
He is a big time cockfighting Gambler-in which he can make a betting of about 2-5k usd in a single fight but I don’t know If he is just a lucky man or a gifted person because for the ratio of 8/10 in gambling .

I use to gamble a lot also when I am still single but I ca only have atleast 6/10 in win-loss

There are people who do it on games of skill and not games of luck. I have personally met with someone who was a professional poker player and he has been making his money from poker for about 6 years now.

He first started with pokerstars where he knew how to play poker a bit and played there but he was still a novice and didn't really play good enough to make a living. Then he kept on losing money gambling all day everyday to get better because it was 1 cent 2 cent bids and that was basically nothing, he lost maybe 50 bucks a day at his worst days but usually came close to break even most of the time, it took him maybe a thousand dollars at most for a year and eventually he started to get better by reading and talking and studying the game.

Now, he is not making huge amounts of money from regular games, he just attends tournaments and even though he doesn't win most of them, one or two big tourney wins is enough to live for a whole year since rewards are huge.

Some people might be here doing that, making gambling as the main source of income. That is a good thing according to them, because it can generate money (the main source) from playing gambling. I personally, can't do that, because I'm not good at gambling.

It is been ages, since from the  beginning of a new era, and I bet from medieval period there are already gamblers, and yet I haven't encountered gambling as a profession, like what other profession needs, a college degree. Why is it there are no such things, courses and subjects for gambling where the student must know all sorts of gambling and be an intern in the casino. I know there are courses in some cybers sport already, and cyber sports are only just showcased recently.

I think you should carry out a better research and you will understand better that being a professional gambler is not a child’s play. It is completely different from the regular betting you see everywhere. Just like students that come out from college, one would go through a lot of studies to qualify as a professional gambler.

What comes to your mind when you hear skills in gambling, do you think its talking about talent or ability to guess? Of course NO, you must be ready to learn some vital skill to pass the test of professional gambling. There are a lot of professional gamblers that are really making money from gambling but they make sacrifices.

There are people who we think that  they are in gambling but actually they make it out for  living, like in cock fighting there's a lot of people that serves as biting middle man or a gaffer who used earn a living out of it.

There are many people who live in gambling especially professional gamblers.

If you know Daniel Negreanu, he's a champion of poker: six World Series of Poker bracelets and two World Poker Tour championship titles.
I admire him when he's playing poker because he's good at bluffing. Try to watch his plays, you'll get mind blown.

of course, there are a lot of different types of gamblers who do it for a living. there are professional poker players and also "real" gamblers. they have found their strategy and they have their emotions under control. (which is the most important thing when it comes to gambling)

Yes, they know how to control the emotions and they easily accept the fact that they lose.
That's the characteristic of a professional gambler that makes gambling as a living. Through those methods, they can sustain their lives and earn profit by gambling.

We know there are professional gamblers but to the question if they make their living out of it, I don’t think so. I have never heard of people who from being poor or having nothing been rich through gambling and been staying a gambler to maintain their status. They must already have money before starting into it except those who won in lottery of course but even them if they continue in gambling they will soon return to their previous status in life.

Pretty sure the top ranked poker players are earning there living mainly with tournaments and not all started rich. With the popularity of poker and the ease you can play these days it can suit all pockets.

Yes, I do agree. There are people who are into sports betting and they are living their lives because of this. I can say that sports betting will give you higher chance of winning if you are into a particular sport for so long, you already know each player, each team, even their personal lives. Knowing the personality of each player will also help you in determining the outcome of the game. So yeah, some individuals are living their lives out of gambling, not only in sports betting area.

We have notice that offline casinos most players are non working adults, they'll be in gambling cause they bored at their house and gambling pleases them. They are not gambling professional but they have money to play and they never mind to have loses.

Indeed, there are those people that are bored at home and all they could think is gambling to kill some time. There are professionals and ordinary individuals that are doing this and like you said they don't care if they lose some money as long as they enjoy.

I guess some people are lucky enough to live out from gambling, and they are happy and enjoy their life. For some people, gambling is one activity which can help them to get fun and thanks for the growth of technology, and gamblers don't have to get out from their home to playing gambling.

A professional's gamblers can get their time in the gambling game, and they can also get the money from the winning. That makes them live from gambling because when they win big money, they can save money for their life.

I have known few persons who has been gambling professionally for last 30+ years and been on massive profit wise. But they are very few of that breed with massive self control. They do have huge bankroll to start with and they follow big Bankroll management strategy very well, like 300 BRM. And never ever get angry or frustrated when have a losing day. Its cos of their self discipline they have been winning for so long .

When you are at the top and already making millions out of gambling, it is already a different story. You can already make a good life out of it. But you belong to a few achievers. The rest are not making that millions. Some of them are still trying hard and continue aspiring despite stumbling down countless of times along the way. When you are at this stage, even if you are a professional gambler, you simply cannot live a life out of it. You can only do so with the help of a sponsor or another source of income.

There are professional gamblers, that's what I know. But I am not sure if they are living solely out of their gambling prizes. For sure, even the professionals lose. And as far as I can observe, those who are gambling with high bets have stable sources of huge income. They can spend all their days gambling because they can fully support it. If you are living only on your gambling wins, I doubt if you can sustain your life as a professional gambler. The tide is not always on your side, after all. 

Your statement is contradicting mate, if you believe in the existence of professional gamblers, then you should know better that their income is basically from gambling alone, this is the reason they are called professional gamblers. For example, when people ask what for your profession, the first thing that would come to your mind is where your money comes from.

I don’t believe there is anything like professional gambling, those who are making money in gambling are not professional gamblers, they get money from other sources not necessarily from gambling alone. Gambling is unpredictable and no gambler can boast of a stable income from gambling, that means no one can be regarded as a professional gambler.

Exactly, especially if you don't have a talent in gambling and you are not choosing the right type of gambling for you.
What I know is you have a little chance of success if you focus in gambling since you don't win every day while every day you are going to spend for your daily living, it should be a hard task for anyone who considers he can make a living in gambling, I know this is possible but would we still risk if we know that the chance is very low?
