This is new Prediction thread for La Liga. Old one has grown quite big and OP is not active for about a year so it was decided it is time for fresh thread.
There will be a new poll up and running soon and I have created a Superbru prediction pool to make things a bit more interesting, also you now have a option to declare your undying love for the favorite club.

Season 2023/24 starts around page 2435.


Favorite Club

If you would like to declare for some club, put up your favorite club with short info at the bottom of your post and I'll include it here. This way we know who we can make fun of when their favorite team looses the derby.

Finally La Liga season starts today. I expect that this season will be very interesting and Barca won't win so easy like last year. Real maybe didn't looked impressive in friendly matches, but with Hazard they are more paowerful obviously and they only need some time. Atletico lost Griezmann, but they made serious rebuld during summer and now their squad looks very interesting.
First match of this season is very interesting. Athletic at San Mames always been difficult opponent for Barca, Messi aren't going to play, so, it's going to be tough.
I joined free pool, but so far there is only 2 players :/
P.S. Lke most here probably noticed, I'm hardcore Barca fan. Visca Catalunya! Visca Barca!

Real Madrid's problems are not yet over and i also don't think Hazard will fit in immediately like Ronaldo did back them... I even have a feeling he may get criticized at some point by ungrateful fans. But i hope the best comes out of him.

Judging from the preseason games, the players also don't seem quite confident as yet and I think there is still so much tension in the dressing room.
My money is on Atletico Madrid to be a tougher challenger against Barcelona again... I hope I am wrong thou

Bilbao vs Barcelona will start shortly. Maybe the right topic to discuss now.
Barcelona will secure their starting points in this match, May Bilbao provide resistance to make it difficult for Barcelona to win. At least a draw can be obtained.

I never used this option before but I believe it should work just like that. No points will be added to pool table before week 3 (starts 30.08) But pick your results and we shall see what happens. I think I can change the pool start date on the fly so I can opt for it to start even later. I choose 2 week delay for now because I believe that will be enough time for all interested parties to join and have same starting point.

Today I can't recognize Barcelona. They played low quality football without nothing dangerous in attack. Griezmann was too passive and he just waited till someone will pass him ball. Rafinha probably was best player on the pitch tonight and shows that something is wrong with current Barcelona.

Griezmann, €120M. De Jong, €75M...But Barcelona's MVP was Rafinha...Poor, very poor performance from Barca. No Messi, no party. Barca fans better pray to the gods of football so that Messi doesn't get injured (too often), or else, oh boy, it's gonna be a long season.

Now waiting for my Real Madrid to play tomorrow vs Celta No Hazard for like 3-4 weeks due to an injury, bummer...Good news is that both James and Bale were called up for the game tomorrow, so there's that.

F*cking amazing is a very good description of the whole situation. You could feel the love & respect between Aduriz and Bilbao supporters even behind a TV set.

Had a feeling this would be a tough match for Barca but I didn't expect them to lose it. At least I didn't bet on it.

The tactical experiments of Ernesto Valverde are not suited for Barcelona, and the board has to have seen that. He starts the season trying to force entertaining football and then later switch to his more convenient, cautious style of football which does not relate with the Barcelona style.
The heavy dependence on Messi would continue regardless of how many big names they sign.

In last 6 games without Messi, Barcelona has 4 losses and 2 draws. So actually this result is not a huge surprise, rest of the team simply don't know what to do when he is not on the pitch, no plan at all.

Took a parlay involving Barca last night and I thought it would end a scoreless draw but credit to Bilbao for taking advantage of a Messiless team... Rather poor debut from de Jong too.

Real with breathe easier as they are also weak.

Yeah, Barca and Real win too many times. But I doubt you can call Atletico Madrid or other top 6 as an underdog. It's quite difficult to win against Barca and Real btw, they need more luck and work hard like crazy.

In last 6 games without Messi, Barcelona has 4 losses and 2 draws. So actually this result is not a huge surprise, rest of the team simply don't know what to do when he is not on the pitch, no plan at all.

They should stop playing as a one-man team. No team who depends on 1 individual can be consistent throughout the season afaik.

Underdog winner, I doubt that!
Last time any small team won League was Leicester City which won the Premier League in 2015-16. But in La Liga, I doubt any team has such caliber. Last season, few teams did  beat big teams like Real Betis defeated Barcelona in Camp Nou. We can see such turns this season too. But I doubt any small team can do this consistently and win the league.
Although Real looked poor in pre-season but still Real has players who can turn any game any time. Real may improve significantly in later part of the season.
Whereas, let's not forget about Atletico Madrid. Atletico is strongest team in the league. However, Barcelona has Messi who can beat any team single-handedly. My prediction: either of the Barcelona or Atletico will win the league.

I think the hard time was because of the absence of the super Argentine player, messi. It is not a good start for Barcelona but I believe they would do better.
