I think that the comparison can be found right there as you said it. When you say you can't compare them, you imply that it is not possible because they don't have a midfield now that is as strong as it was back then. But that is the comparison right there and it is true. Barcelona was the most complete team I have ever seen back in their golden era. On every position they were superior, or in some games maybe in 8 or 9 positions out of the full 11.
