UPDATE: NGC Proof of Burn - Coin Distribution Symmetry address has been generated. The Proof of Burn premine has now been destroyed in it's entirety, slightly ahead of schedule. http://explorer.nigeriacoin.org/address/NigeriaDestroyCurrencyHAhaHAmoSNy2 Description
NigeriaCoin is a peer-to-peer virtual protocol and currency and similar to Bitcoin and Litecoin. It is specifically designed with one primary differentiator, Coin Distribution Symmetry (CDS). CDS is an inflation adjustment mechanism to minimize dilution of share values from Proof of Work (PoW) mining. This provides both miners and investors with incentives to participate in the currency.
Why Nigeria? "Nigeria is going to shoot past South Africa to become the largest economy in Africa on March 31." (nigeria giving sa a run for it's money, 2014) Nigeria also has more citizens than Russia and actually has a quite tech savvy community.
Despite these positive things, Nigerians are still struggling with a centralized and corrupt central bank and currency.
"Nigeria’s currency, the naira, has stayed in free-fall, the day after the suspension of graft-fighting central bank chief Lamido Sanusi. Analysts say the move makes investors nervous and will encourage capital flight." (nigeria's currency tumbles, 2014).
In the country, a huge gap exists between the wealthy elite and the rest of the population. Some politicians vow to "fight corruption that keeps an elite fabulously wealthy while the majority of Africa's most populous nation ... struggle to survive on less than $1 a day, according to U.N. statistics."
Yet, due to a lack of transparency in the monetary system and a centralized currency, it is still widespread to a sickening degree. For instance, "no one has been prosecuted for a fuel subsidy scam uncovered in 2012, in which some $17 billion was paid to companies for fuel that never was delivered." (therepublic - nigeria missing billions, 2014).
Most foreigners know of Nigeria only for their 419 scams. NigeriaCoin acknowledges the struggles of the repressed population and salutes their creativity in trying to break free from the shackles of a corrupt government. Their entrepreneurial spirit and creativity has led them to an easy source of cash.
Edit: removed some controversial lines, original unedited text can be read on the whitepaper.
Specifications
- Latest Bitcoin Core 0.9.0 updates including Tx malleability fix
- Skein algorithm that runs cooler on GPUs and is 30% more energy efficient compared to Scrypt. It also dodges the Scrypt ASICs coming out for fairer initial distribution
- 2 minute block target (because anything less will have too many orphan blocks)
- 41900 coins per block (as suggested. it's just too funny to pass up. thank you otila)
- 88 billion total coins (NigeriaCoin loves the Chinese and the Chinese love 8's)
- Difficulty retargets every block using a modified Digishield adjustment
- 3% dev premine for bounties, giveaways, development, support and maintenance, new feature developments etc.
- Large Coin Distribution Symmetry block of 47% (NEW CONCEPT, we will destroy this premine via Proof of Burn to adjust for inflation created by PoW mining)

I was slightly interested until I read this line: "It's truly greed on the part of people being scammed that's to blame and not the desperation of the repressed Nigerian people."
Fuck you! So many people have been scammed out of money from greedy bastards like you, and it's their fault? I'm calling it now, this whole coin is a scam. Nobody trust it, consider yourself warned!

Dear Sir, SEEKING YOUR IMMEDIATE ASSISTANCE. Please permit me to make your acquaintance in so informal a manner. This is necessitated by my urgent need to reach a dependable and trust wordy foreign partner. This request may seem strange and unsolicited but I will crave your indulgence and pray that you view it seriously... Yeah you get the drift

Large premine (proof of burn how long after release?)

I know. Blaming the victim, while giving excuses for the scammers. If anything, this developer is making the Nigerian people look bad.

We can take that language out about the 419 scams, but taking on NigeriaCoin as a task is a difficult one without addressing the 419 stigma associated with it. We intend for this to truly be a NigeriaCoin which can eventually be adopted by the people and something they can be proud of. Yes, on distribution, we haven't figured it out yet and it's possible that we never will. If someone can actually figure out fair distribution to the Nigerian populace, please contact us. Instead we are going to donate towards Nigerian non-profits and those proceeds and campaigns will be 100% transparent. Any crowdfunded campaign done through a reputable escrow and NGO for the benefit of the Nigerian people will receive developer funds towards their goal. We want a community that cares about Nigeria, not quick pump and dumpers to be mining this coin. On the 47% Coin Distribution Symmetry allocation, yes it's a premine. But, it's never going to hit the market, it will be destroyed via an automated script on an ultra secure private server behind a firewall and NAT. The coins will be destroyed on a regular basis and the burn address will be viewable from the block explorer. There are two benefits from this CDS block. - 0% inflation due to proof of work mining.
- coinmarketcap is forced to calculate marketcap of NGC based on the entirety of the CDS block in addition to new coins, which gives this coin extra visibility.
Obviously there's going to be lots of, "THIS IS A SCAM" talk on this thread, but can only assure you that we are not and that we are going to be fully transparent about all funds. We have a team of about 5 devs working full time on putting together a proper launch with the latest technologies and we will be successful. Skeptics and naysayers need not join, but if you're ready to create something revolutionary together, please join us at launch. We will try to get P2pool ported for launch also, so that could be available soon too, and we will promote the use of P2pools for enhanced decentralization and increased safety for miners.

Does the Nigerian government keep track of it's citizens with a National insurance number, social security number or anything of a similar nature? If so you could use that for each citizen to claim? Then you are going to have to get the word out to your fellow citizens, some sort of media campaign? I'm assuming not everyone has computers, maybe a smartphone app?
