Ok you are gambling just for fun, your friends and neighbors knows that and a friend invited you to his party to be one of the candidates as a councilor and campaign will start in 6 months, now, of course, you need to have a good reputation, will you stop gambling just to have a good image this coming campaign and how will you defend yourself if accused as a gambler. 

In my region, there are politicians who are gamblers. Mostly on cockfighting so being a gambler doesn't mean you have power reputation on the community. It is on how you serve your constitutes even your a gambler. So for me, I would not stop gambling just to impress people that I am a reputable man and is worthy for their votes

If they really know me personally, they would also know that I'm doing gambling for fun and entertainment only. I wouldn't stop it because it doesn't ruin my reputation. I'm running to serve as a councilor and that doesn't mean that I have to be perfect. If we know how to handle gambling moderately, it couldn't ruin our reputation as long as people would trust us.

This situation is really bad situation people who doesn't really know you too well wouldn't trust you or vote for you since they know that you're a gambler and they would think that you would only use the people's money to gamble.
So I think if I am on that position I would quit on gambling and try to convince them that I wouldn't gamble anymore and show them why they should trust me by working hard.

The OP said "gambling is just for fun". So I think having fun in the sense of not being addicted and not a gambling addict.Betting once or twice will not damage a persons reputation, for reasons of fun. Although he can still be said to be a gambler, but it will not have much effect.

Basically this topic has been discussed previously on other thread titled Did gambling affected your personal reputation?
For me I dont care what other's say about me if I'm doing gambling, as long as my gambling activity has nothing to do with their life then I wont stop. Indeed some people cares about their reputation a lot and try to be better person as much as possible in front of others. But I'm not type of those people, I will just do anything I like, I wont stop gambling just because people will think about me negatively. It is their own right to think so but it is also my own right to do what I want to do.

You have taken it for granted that being a gambler is worth being accused of being one, meaning it is a crime to gamble and leads to bad reputation. This is not true. A person can be a gambler and have same reputation as a non-gambler. It is completely how they mange their time and money and their social life.

Actually,,, the way I usually read things like that when you say you are being accused of something and it is not in court, it actually becomes quite funny because it is self-deprecating.

We all know the reputation of gambling, and it is, depending on your culture, a vice or a crime.

In most Chinese cultures you are expected to gamble, anyway, partake in a small vice for family gatherings.

For me, everything will depend on potential opportunities. Gambling in my life is just entertainment, I'm not too excited. I can refuse it even without conditions affecting my reputation.
Therefore, for me the answer to this question is quite simple: if refusal from gambling is necessary for reasonable reasons, I will do it.
However, people are more adventurous, this issue may not be easy, because addictions of this kind always subject us to temptation. It’s hard not to break.

It's a difficult decision for me

I like to gamble for fun, but on another side, I need to build a good reputation. Maybe I will leave gambling for a while and focus on the campaign because if I have been selected, I can back to play gambling again, or I can stop gambling forever. But if someone asked me and accused me as a gambler, I will defend myself, and I will tell them that I gamble for fun. Many people playing gambling, and they can stop anytime.

I know politician at first will stop gambling during campaigns but will definitely get back once they won. It's fine to those rich politicians who you know didnt get the money of their governance, I think it will still depend on what our living status is, some will really be affected but there are gambling addicts who are able to still give, donate and do charitable services. For me, I can stop gambling if I really want to win.

Again you say that the person is gambling for fun - so then they are being responsible too. So that should not hurt their reputation

Technically, I agree with you that if you gamble only for fun without leaving your cozy armchair in you bedroom, it would be pretty much like playing any other video or online game unless you play something like Carmageddon, of course, which may raise a lot of eyebrows once made known. Then it depends on how well you can present the whole matter, and what you are able to make out of it (read, you would have better sleep if you wouldn't have to)

However, and this is where I come to disagree with your opinion, if you go to a land-based casino in real life, this is definitely not about gambling only. It typically involves all those things that surround this activity, like high-class hookers, night-long parties (probably turning in wild orgies), drugs and what not. This is definitely not what you would like to share and people to know. Well, actually, people would be eager to find out all this dirty stuff about you

I will not accept that offer in the first place despite me playing or gambling for fun. Why? Because obviously, in our country, there are a lot of people that will talk about you all day long not even knowing that what they are saying is not true. Despite me not really addicted to gambling, people will say that I am and I don't want that to happen since I can't stand those kinds of people that feel they know it all but in reality, doesn't know anything at all.

If you know to yourself that you are moderately playing and you are not addicted to this activities then it's easy for you adjust if the obligations
to serve your communities as it takes. You have to assure those people that it would not affect your service as you can quit when it's needed
since this activities are just part of your entertainment and not that affecting your life.

I think it doesn't matter it was just for fun you could play the game and just enjoy the game. People will always judge you no matter what you do and get the wrong idea all the time.
If you are running for councilor you could just skip the game but nothing is wrong in playing or gambling, in my opinion, everybody will going to accuse you as a gambler if you look addicted in gambling but a few games, in my opinion, will not going to affect it so much. But to get a good reputation just don't do anything that is not a good example for the people you should just be a model you could just play moderately.

Perfectly right, just to be true if what you are. There's nothing wrong if you admit that you are a gambler and tell them that you are responsible enough about this. You just wanted to have fun while in gambling and that's it no more other reasons. You can tell them if they voted you as a counselor you will stop in gambling, at least you have a good a platform proposal to them.

That's a hard situation we are in in case it ever happened to us, for a hard gambler then probably he would just lie to the people and say it isn't true at all. If you are going to stop gambling just because you are building a good reputation, I guess that is not enough. Your opponent will find you flaws and will, search your backgrounds and history- it will be a sure lose if found guilty about gambling thus don't join campaigns from the start.

Hard situation but if you really love gambling and it's one of your passion then you shouldn't accept the position of being a councilor. Probably, there will be a lot of issues that will pop up regarding you. If you really insist on that position, I'm telling you that you'll gonna lie many times. You will also hide when you want to play especially when you don't want to brought your friends on the issue. It's a very difficult situation but not worth it thing.

I know a lot of people do gambling because it's fun and entertaining, there's nothing wrong with that. Change your mindset and perspective on gambling, yes it really risks money but the fact that you're enjoying and challenging you to think, it's an effective way to entertain
and be a stress reliever to yourself.

So I think there's nothing wrong if you're thinking of it as a fun activity.
