No, it is possible in fact it was happening where eth has beaten by xrp in terms of market capitalization where xrp landed next to bitcoin in rank. Now, there are hype too with other coins that slowly getting their rank to the top. Eos has more chance because of its fast transaction process and many do like eos. Other crypto like the link crypto could still get the chance to beat ether in terms of market capitalization.

It would be much easier to surpass Ethereum than it is Bitcoin and ETH has been flipped a few times already by Bcash and XRP. There are already other platforms out there that are better at being a world computer and smart contracts platform. I also have the same line of mind, that ethereum is a coin that is difficult to take a position, especially for new coins on the market. You are right, we know anything could happen to cryptocurrency. Even only 1 year ago, Ripple took the second position from the Ethereum. Upcoming development of Ethereum will change the future.
