Ethereum will always have the benefit of being one of the earliest cryptocurrencies out there, which makes it very hard for new projects to overtake ETH.
That being said, in the last few weeks it happenede pretty often that the gas fees in the ethereum network were very high, which revealed that current Ethereum has problems when there is a lot of traffic in the network.
If ETH 2.0 continues to be delayed and maybe never happens then sooner or later there will be a new number 2 crypto.
yes I agree with you when there is a problem with ethereum with the current high gas price, it is not impossible that there will be a new competitor who can replace ethereum in second place, but if ethereum can overcome this problem and the presence of ethereum 2.0 it will be difficult for new coins to compete in second place. |

Well i hope so. I think more people will give other coins a chance since ETH is getting more expensive as a gas price. Tho theyll have to rise against the already established ETH. But its not too far off.
If the traffic is spread equally I'm sure we gonna have a better fee cost than what it is right now. Too many platform relying on ETH making their blockchain too crowded but tbh its not their fault being the most popular platform for creating many erc20 tokens. Competition is always good and if theres new coin that could replace ETH then it's even better because we better off with many alternatives than just having one. |

If it's in the context of the market cap, maybe it still can but in terms of price and volume, it is still difficult to beat etherum.

Some of the coins under ethereum may have the potential to outperform ethereum. which is still very fresh with a lot of updates I think there are BNB and LINK that could be competitors for ethereum in the future with various planning updates that have been prepared. |

For a new project to surpass ethereum it will require a lot of time. Certainly, it won't be immediate and the idea needs something that will be of immense value to the cryptocurrency industry, to gain interest from a wide group of consumers who will like the coin and reap the benefits.

Everything can happen in crypto (but I still think if nothing can beat ethereum) and maybe in the future there will be new tokens that beat ethereum, the percentage beat ethereum is only 1% because ethereum is too strong to beat

I don't think there is any crypto that can beat Ethereum at the moment. They have a strong ecosystem, a strong and loyal community. Lately, their problem is just too high fees and delays. Also, there is no other problem.

I highly doubt that some newcomer could dethrone ETH from its #2 MC spot in the near future. But hey, crypto is totally unpredictable, ETH devs could fail to deliver ETH 2.0 in the next year or two, so who knows, maybe some ETH-killer unexpectedly rises to the top, I wouldn't bet on it, but it may happen.

I also agree with you, there is no currency in the crypto world that can defeat Etherium at the moment. Lately, they have no problem with high fees; I believe that too will be resolved soon. The use of Etherium and Bitcoin pairs is high in the crypto world, with most investors exchanging their currency for ETH or BTC before going to Fiat Money. So overall I don't think any new cryptocurrency can beat Ethereum at the moment. |

Yearn.Finance for example outperformed BTC. In terms of market capitalization I'll say if this project outperforming in terms of price last long, they'd beat ETH in market capitalization in the long term. But in terms of Utility. I guess Ethereum have to fix up. It's scheduled 2.0 is taking forever to achieve! Some projects out there do not take this long to acheive established road map. That's right. It's possible that some crypto will take over ETH but they need to be solid platform and can create different platform that people will trust with. It will take a lot of time if that crypto will only emerge this year. ETH still dominate and a lot of people expecting many improvements to them. If I would ask in 5-8 years, ETH will not be replace with newcomers cryptocurrency. |

YESS,There is no doubt Ethereum have the biggest community in the space but it is not a chain that is too big to fail. There are some few good projects in the space now that can give Ethereum run for its money. Thou they will need to spend alot on marketing, pumping th price of the coin and also have a good platform to show for their effort

It has the possibility, any new altcoins can beat ETH in the market, but they can't beat ETH in terms of popularity and the community itself. ETH has been proven for its strong, update, trustworthy asset by the community. PolkaDOT is the real Ethereum competitor. Many altcoins tried to do this in the past, but they didn´t solve the problem with scalability to make it true. Behind the PolkaDOT there are big institutional investors that bring to PolkaDOT enough credibility, just like Hedera Hashgraph. But both projects could have problem with decentralization in the future.  |

It's kind of impossible atleast at this moment. Ethereum is 2nd biggest coin in the market and it had a big marketcap. Not only marketcap it has very big community and developer group. And most of the token in the market is based on eth. Maybe in future it can possible. But right now it's not. In terms of profit there are many coins which can outperform eth but in marketcap it's hard. But there are many coin releasing which are the biggest competitors of ethereum . One day maybe one of them can take the crown. But it will be a hard competition.
