We get it, you do not like the purplething, but I still think it is handy to have an uno test chain.

It is a good idea, and that is what UNO had.  What it has now is a test chain that has been monetised.

The $3k in monetization with hope will bring new devs to play in the UN sandbox, or even better lure the Creator back.
Having a test chain brand also is likely to bring more hands to the UNOverse.  I think it has already  
(At the very least that small market cap can be used to fund nodes).
(At the very best that small market grows along with UN an becomes the R&D programmers Fund
 

Or worse the test net is actually needed and has to be reset (there is a reason why the current one is number 3) and everyone who has spent money on Proto loses that money and are turned away completely.

Bluntly I think it sends the message that UNO is not a serious operation, as it basically doesn't even have a test environment. How are future changes to be tested?

It's "testnet3" because UNO was forked from Bitcoin and bitcoin's testnet was on its third iteration - each "testnet" replaces the previous one they don't exist in parallel.  If the testnet is reset all the balances on it will go to zero.

A judge has frozen Cryptsy's remaining assets. It looks like the inkling a few of you had is right; the UNO there will be locked up for quite some time. On the bright side, it may be returned at some point.

Kenneth Marra, a Florida District Judge, has frozen what remains of assets belonging to Cryptsy. James D. Sallah has been appointed as Receiver.

The order states:

    “The Receiver shall assume and control the operations of Cryptsy and shall pursue and preserve all of its claims.”

Sallah is authorized to take possession of all Cryptsy assets, including any digital currency deposits like UNO that were not withdrawn prior to the shutdown.

Paul Vernon told CoinDesk in January that he was “travelling” in China, and has not been seen, or heard from, since that interview.

Yeah, that's what I was going to say, they will pay these guys $400/hour each out of the Cryptsy money, not government money.
If Paul Vernon actually had a couple million of his own money left, that will pay for the lawyers and receivers and liquid capital that was of the company.

$400/hour is not a lot, it's about the hourly going rate of a mid range decent attorney these days. If you've been to court like me, you've easily paid a lawyer $300-400 an hour.
That money will be locked up for quite a while, if Vernon doesn't have the privkeys to "hack" the UNO as well. You never know, once the price gets too sweet for him with his Chinese girlfriend he may need to cash out coins he can reach to stay on the lam.

As for the Protanium/testnet discussion: Yes, it's true the testnet could need an entire reset at any time should there need to be some heavy testing on it. I thought everyone was aware of that, it being a testnet, but I can so how that would piss people off if they had money involved. Yes, inherently a testnet should actually have no value. If you try to monetize BTCs testnet, they just reset it on purpose.

there is no way this could be a speedy trial, when you mix:
-claimed 'hacker' thieves ... mr wacker signed a contract to return part of the loot
-gross custodial negligence
-class action
-offshore 'China' assets
-CRYPTO ... "wat?" says the judge
-and top it with a divorce

It always made me wonder why Vern didn't steal the UNO along with the BTC and LTC that he stole.

Maybe he had too much respect for the Blue Turtle Coin?

It won't simply evaporate by resetting it, because there is a network and nodes that have arrived at consensus... they won't just immediately wipe out the entire blockchain and sync to block 1 of testnet4.  You'd have to take down the entire network (which admittedly, might not be too difficult).

Anyway... its not a big deal to me. Its just another piece of UNO's interesting history.

Well FallingKnife, it doesn't actually work like that. Once you reset the blockchain, you reset it all the way. Meaning, everyone who had PRO coins would all have 0 balance, back to block one. So, anyone that puts money into it, or trades it, loses all they had no matter what once the blockchain has been reset. And yes, that really is the point of the testnet, to just wipe it and start over if need be, not that it has been recently reset, but with testing and development it will need to be reset.

To really clarify the best I can: Yes, it does all simply evaporate by resetting it. Yes, there are nodes, they would all start from block 1 again. If you wanted to keep the coins and preserve the blockchain, you'd need to fork the testnet again and then it's no longer UNOs testnet, it becomes Prototanium as an entire new coin. In effect, that does actually just create another cloned premined coin as well. So, not a good idea at all.

Resetting UNO testnet3 from the gensis block wouldn't even be a fork... it would just be a new coin, testnet4 (ProtaniumII or UnobtaniumJR).
If it was so easy to evaporate an entire network, someone would have come along by now and done it to Bitcoin.
