After four days, where medals were awarded in the Olympic Games, Japan continues to surprise as the delegation with the most gold medals.
It's also interesting to see that despite the Russian athletes are not competing on behalf of the country, but of the Russian Olympic Committee, they are very well qualified.

The Japanese are fortunate to have such a ratio between gold medals and the total number of medals won. In this spreadsheet, Germany's 10th place surprises me, they have few gold medals and few won awards in general. It's too early to talk about the final results, but the intermediate data is very weak, I wonder if Germany can seriously improve its position?

Germany is also a country that usually performs better in athletics. While we are in other disciplines, it is normal for Germany and the United Kingdom, for example, and even the US does not have so many medals.

We'll see when the athletics part starts.

Here in India, the sole medal winner (Mirabai Chanu) is being showered with rewards as well. The Manipur state government provided a cheque of ₹10,000,000, while the central government gave ₹20,000,000 (in total, around $400,000). This time the medal winners received better rewards when compared to the previous editions. Back in 2008 and 2012, it was mostly token rewards of around $50,000. Still, the Indian performance is disappointing, given the enormous population of the country (1.4 billion).
If I'm not mistaken she got a silver medal, the prize she got was quite large maybe with the money she could improve her financial, as I know weightlifting a sport that doesn't have much competition and doesn't really give a big income.
Developing countries including my country have always considered investing money to develop sports as a waste, there will be many official who say it is better to use it for the poor.
It is only natural that the Indian government gave a sizeable bonus to Mirabai Chanu after winning a silver medal, because Mirabai Chanu became the first Indian athlete to win a medal at the Tokyo Olympics  and we know that the prize can be a motivation for other young athletes to be able to get better achievements in the future,  Oh yeah, besides getting bonus money from the Indian government, Mirabai Chanu also gets free pizza for life from Domino's Pizza, one of the international-scale pizza restaurant chains that has a network in almost all of India Grin.

China at the top position now with 11 golds and 5 silver, followed by Japan at 11 gold and 4 silver. USA at 3rd place and Russia at 4th.

One of the most eagerly awaited match will start in 3 hours from now, in artistic gymnastics (Men's artistic individual all-around). Yesterday, there was a big upset in the women's team event. USA was at -650 and RUssia at +500, and yet Russia managed to win the gold. Those who made a bet in favor of Russia got 5x returns.

However in men's team event, Russia was the favorite with odds of -100 (and they won the gold medal).

For today's match, the favorite is Daiki Hashimoto of Japan with +140, followed by Nikita Nagornyy of Russia at +200.

And the reward now is estimated at Php 50 Million + several perks and benefits from other companies including an own condo unit.
As of July 30, her estimated benefits totaled PHP 40.7M in cash, lifetime fuel supply, unlimited free flights, a condo and a house and lot worth PHP 14M each, and any other substantial advantages associated with food and transportation. That's a lot of money, and we all know she deserves it after years of hard work.

Moreover, I also find this picture intriguing and at the same time ecstatic.

Just my opinion, Liao Qiuyun of China was put under a lot of pressure by her management team or even the government to rise to the top. Or perhaps she was coerced into lifting a certain weight due to her opponents' underestimation, which caused her to be disappointed. As far as I know, Qiuyun holds the record for lifting 129kg, which is more than Hidilyn's weight of 127kg.

She's not a sore loser, but rather a woman who is concerned about what she might hear from the government.

I'm ecstatic since Philippines and Kazakhstan are getting along so well celebrating their victory.

^^ Every athlete though is put under pressure other entities, either by the government or their coach. She losses but it doesn't mean she is not that good. Maybe its time for the Philippines to get the gold medal and end the drought of 97 years. Diaz says that she will continue with the sports, so we are going to see them more fight it out for who is the best in their division on so many competitions. Maybe in the next 4 years we are going to see them again in the biggest sporting event.

China the silver medalist doesn't seem to look happy, she could have won if she increases it and goes to her max. well, I think she becomes also a blessing for the Philippines to finally achieve their first-ever gold medal in the Olympics.  Hidilyn was the first to achieve it, but I have a feeling that we will see another gold medal winner soon especially in boxing.

I just came here for another congratulatory post for our first-ever Gold medal Grin

I read a post about her Olympic journey since 2008:
2008 - second to the last
2012 - didn't finish
2016 - Silver
2020 - Gold

I also read she got financial support from a private citizen during her preparation for the competition. Just goes to show how important that is to the athletes and why developed countries usually dominate.

Well done Hidilyn Diaz! Enjoy your PHP30 Million (~$600K) reward.

Yeah, I still vividly remember watching her in 2012 summer Olympics in a gym that time.

But after that Diaz improved a lot and bring glory to the Philippines. But finally, we have achieved a very special gold that eluded us for 97 years. Every Filipino around the world should be rejoicing about this win as this is very historic day for all of us to finally hearing our national anthem. Very proud to be Filipino right now!!!.

We still have another women, Nesthy Petecio, who upsets top ranked Lin Yu-Ting of Chinese Taipei in the featherweight division. One win away from a potential medal.

Ok so it's good news for the Philippines again, Nesthy Petecio won her match against Yeni Marcela Arias Castaneda of Colombia. Meaning she is going to the next round, the quarterfinals and will assure her of a bronze medal already.

And if by chance she won against Irma Testa of Italy, she will be fighting for the gold medal.

So the Philippines will already have a 2 medal haul in this Olympics, another accomplished for the country. The last time the country won multi medal is 89 years ago.

1 Gold 1 Bronze for the PH, very proud of this "girls".

Did anyone else notice the gold medal of the amateur cyclist Kiesenhofer from Austria?

https://twitter.com/Eurosport_DE/status/1419222301950812160?s=20

She seems to have been completely forgotten by the favourites, as we saw when Annemiek van Vleuten crossed the finish line thinking she had won the gold medal, until she was told that she had come second and not first.

This lack of knowledge happens, because in the Olympic Games cyclists do not have a radio. And the support cars are from the organization, which do not share information about the odds and times of other players.

So it's normal for her not to know she was in second. It certainly did not appear that a player had left her group and was already going far ahead. Mainly, because it was a very long vulva, almost from the beginning of the race.

Congratulations to the athlete from Austria!

I also think it's good that the technique around the athlete is not as pronounced as in the Tour de France, for example. For me, it is more the athlete himself who is in the foreground and not the training team that gives the instructions when the athlete should accelerate or tactics.

So the athlete who was one minute ahead was simply forgotten and deserved to win with the tactic of trying to ride away at the beginning. The risk was rewarded.

Ah, she might not feel any serious repercussions from the government, she might just not be endorsed so much or get shunned. Sure, that ain't the most serious thing, but still is unpleasant. That is, unfortunately, the case in regimes such as China, Russia, and so on...

Anyone following the men's artistic individual all-around in Artistic gymnastics? 2/6 routines completed till now, and Daiki Hashimoto of Japan is leading with such a huge margin. The Russian athletes have performed poorly, with Nagornyy at the 5th position and Dalaloyan at 11th. Chinese athletes are at second and third position. The Japanese would be overjoyed at a gold here. That would cement their position at the top of the medals table (currently, Japan is having 12 gold, compared to 11 for China and 10 for the United States).

Germany just made it into the top 10 yesterday because of 2 gold medals won, before that we were even much further behind 2 gold medals mean a lot in the lower region of the table. There are only a few sports where Germany is very dominant and a medal, or even a gold medal, is pretty much assured. Off the top of my head, I can only think of dressage, where the team won the gold medal again yesterday and where they are also the favourites for the gold medal in the individual classification today. I think Germany needs to host the Olympics again so that the focus is more on mass sports again and it also gets more support from politics and companies.

Despite the fact that our Government did make a mistake of not supporting well financially, mentally, and emotionally of our athletes, she is one of a great example of pushing her dreams to beyond of anyone's expectations including herself. The prices she owns now is really deserving for her hard work to prove that she can do it and for her country. I am proud for her achievements. I hope that this would be a lesson for our Government. I hope they will be now supporting our athletes very well for the next Olympic.

Kudos to those people who supports her and Kudos to Filipinos who never doubt her potential.

Germany just made it into the top 10 yesterday because of 2 gold medals won, before that we were even much further behind 2 gold medals mean a lot in the lower region of the table. There are only a few sports where Germany is very dominant and a medal, or even a gold medal, is pretty much assured. Off the top of my head, I can only think of dressage, where the team won the gold medal again yesterday and where they are also the favourites for the gold medal in the individual classification today. I think Germany needs to host the Olympics again so that the focus is more on mass sports again and it also gets more support from politics and companies.

In 2016, Germany confidently won the 5th place in the overall standings and the gap from the 4th place was minimal. I think this year they should not perform much worse. And I do not think that holding the Olympics in Germany can change global trends - most likely, young people choose other areas in order to exert their efforts and sports, due to supercompetitiveness, are not a priority now.

Thats quite interesting when another country try to guess what position they will be, meanwhile my country I dunno and I dont have any guess for their position because another teams are better than our athletes. We are just waiting for the badminton players go final. Until now they show a great performance and we hope they will get 1st position as result for their workhard.

My country (UK) will I think do worse than usual. We have had some success in swimming in these games, an event where we are normally weak. But in other sports there have been quite a few disappointments, and our overall team is I think weaker than has been the case in the last few Olympics. Athletics in particular, we don't have a lot of serious contenders for golds. Once cycling hits the velodrome we have a chance to increase our medal count - but whilst the UK used to be by far the best velodrome nation, in recent years other nations have caught up a lot, and there is no longer the situation that UK just sweep to gold every time.

Not a very intelligent thing to do, when the whole world is suffering from the pandemic. What was he trying to do here? Was he looking for some cheap publicity? Anyway, now he (Youness Baalla) can practice his biting skills at home, because in all probability he will not be allowed in to the boxing ring again. Or maybe he can try his luck in MMA. These sort of guys are in good demand in that sport. BTW, I head that Baalla is now playing the race card. He is claiming that he is being punished for being black.

With that huge amount of money she's going to received for sure it will encourage more athletes to pursue their dreams.

The government is not denying that they really lack of support for the Pinoy athletes it's given and even so it's not a reason not
to perform just how Hidilyn did, and with the efforts he made everything was been paid off now.

Fame and lots of money she's now secure together with all her love ones.. What a life!

He should be ban from this sport, that is a disgrace to his country, this is Olympics, the world is watching and anyone fighter represents his country, so whatever his action will reflect on the reputation of his country, that's so stupid, being too emotional instead of using his mind.

Fame and lots of money she's now secure together with all her love ones.. What a life!

She deserves that because she made history, more rewards will come for sure.
