NEW EPISODE JUST AIRED: https://youtu.be/ZSKimRE6qmYIt's been a while since theymos suggested a Youtube channel for Bitcointalk. The general sentiment seemed that it would be cool to have one. And I agree! So let's say someone would start filming tomorrow. What type of content/themes would you like to see? Things that you'd like to watch, whether you're a grumpy Bitcointalk veteran or just hearing out about our wonderful community. Was tinkering around and printed/painted that. Could we make it a thing please? UPDATESJuly 28 21:Great info from everyone so far, thank you! Here's the current plan and progress: Hired a company to film and edit. Production value aimed: very high! First filming day will be really soon, so the first few episodes will be prerecorded and released when ready. This whole thing an experiment, so content and format will likely evolve over time, as long as there's interest for it. Likely themes for the first few episodes feature the BitcoinTalk Anniversary, Community Awards 2020, etc. In time we'll start doing educational material as well, such as forum guides and news bits. Also interviews! Aug 05 21:First filming day was a few days ago. Hopefully it won't be the only filming day, looking forward to adding more of the cool ideas in! Grin We're also working on the channel's artwork. We'll likely need more materials so if you know any crypto artists that would feel inspired by the idea, point them here! After we get a teaser and basic graphics done, the URLs will go public. Aug 15 21:The BitcoinTalkShow first graphics contest is now LIVE: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5354384Sep 07 21:The graphics contest winners have been announced here: beertoll's logo and payjoe93's banner. There were also some surprize prizes. Congrats and thank you everyone for participating! Also, the teaser was teased here! Oct 25 21:Teaser was made public, after some delays and the realization that teasers are harder than imagined: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JHCI4Q5Q-MQDec 25 21First episode aired as an instant Youtube premiere with the link hidden in a puzzle. Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WK4VqHEf8CEHope you liked it and happy holidays everyone! Jan 08 22:Second episode aired, with the BitcoinTalk Community Awards 2021 theme. So let's say I'd start filming tomorrow. What type of content/themes would you like to see? Things that you'd like to watch, whether you're a grumpy Bitcointalk veteran or just hearing out about our wonderful community.
It would need to be a combination of fun and educative contents focused on forum discussions. I'll love to see a voice over discussions of some forum discussions, with possible animation edits to bring them more to life, that way people would be entertained and may want to head to the forum to join the conversation. Maybe also a weekly interview with one forum member, although this ma be a bit more difficult for privacy reasons, users may not want to go through the stress of ensuring no one can trace their identity through such means. Weekly awards for best posts, worst posts etc could also be cool.

I'd love to see some overwhelming positive content. How about a MrBeast like channel? For those unfamiliar, MrBeast gives away money, cars, houses, etc. to random people and those in need. It's heartwarming positive content that popularizes the idea of giving away funds to help other people. I think given the success of Bitcoin and this forum, I would personally love to see funds used to help others while encouraging and inspiring others to find the joy in giving. Here's an example of his content, and one of my favorite videos: I Ordered Pizza And Tipped The House

Sounds like a good idea! One thing I'd suggest is (quality) posts that get a lot of merits - for example: top merited post for that week - and threads that get a lot of traction maybe ones that get a lot of heavy discussion and interaction too rather than number of replies (like the weight of the posts in a topic).
Theymos suggested doing news stuff on that topic and I'd be interested in trying to make stories neutral and accurate if you needed the help... I think I'm a bit crypto-skeptic when it comes to things like ICOs and altcoins (although I'm not sure I have a firm grasp on crypto news articles as I normally rely on mainstream media for crypto stuff).

Creating something that someone would watch related to the forum would probably be difficult. Going along the route of OgNasty's suggestion would probably yield the most return. It could be a toned down version of MrBeast, where there are weekly/monthly events which take place, which a winner can win x amount of Bitcoin. This would probably encourage new users to the forum, albeit they might be a little low quality. I'm not sure highlighting posts, even good posts is something that people not on the forum would watch, and I'm not even sure if the users here would watch it after the novelty of it dissipates. The best route would be following the status quo to some extent, that has proven to be successful, but applying that to the forum, is something I'm finding difficulty in doing. I know there's been users voicing their concerns recently about the decline of active users on the forum, and Youtube could be a behemoth of a marketing campaign if its done right. If we take a look at Youtube, and the most popular formats:- MrBeast style over the top videos, throwing ludicrous money around. - Podcasts; Potentially having different guests on from various different backgrounds on the forum could potentially be successful if the right candidates are selected. However, I believe anonymous nature of the forum would probably be a barrier to this idea. - A show like DramaAlert on Youtube, but focused on the Bitcoin industry. Probably, wouldn't work out as well due to the nature of Youtube infulencers compared to the people involved in Bitcoin. - Debates; as long as they are kept civilized, and moderated to some degree i.e not censoring the guests, but guiding them to specific topics I think it could work out pretty well, and could be combined with the podcast/interview ideas. - Documentaries; This doesn't even particularly need to be shot physically, but could be a voiceover with a lot of editing, which is a pretty popular format on Youtube for things that aren't related to Bitcoin. - Conspiracies related to Bitcoin; if you want to go down that rabbit hole that is, and have the mind for it. Other ideas not particularly popular on Youtube:- Bitcoin courses; if it could be tied in some way to the idea of Bitcoin courses mentioned here by theymos. That would be interesting, and might just kill two birds with one stone. - Liaising with Bitcoin developers, and getting them to do a developer diary could be of interest. - Highlighting substantial posts here on the forum, however I'm not convinced in the long run the appeal will be there to retain an audience for this type of content. I'd love to see some overwhelming positive content. How about a MrBeast like channel?
Although, it would be pretty neat to have a Bitcoin MrBeast type channel, I feel the kind of investment that would be needed at first, wouldn't be easily covered, and I doubt forum funds would be used for it. Pretty cool idea though, and would definitely be an interesting approach.

It could grow over time and I'm sure sponsors would be willing to help out. I certainly wouldn't expect the forum to hit the ground running and give away a house on the first video although it would certainly be doable. Speaking from a Donator's perspective about using forum funds (not that my opinion matters at all), I would definitely rather see my 10 BTC donation go towards helping those in need as opposed to building new forum software that we don't need. A podcast is a cool idea too. I'd watch it if it regularly featured new members from the community and would probably be willing to be interviewed for it (not that I'd be asked), as I'm sure many others here would as well.

I fundamentally disagree with you ... we need quality content for the general public. - Including a brief weekly review of crypto industry news or something similar, (content that will catch the eye of thousands of people on an ongoing basis).
- Well, of course, parallel video materials including different guides or any other really useful things that will be simply and clearly presented to the viewer, and here you can already refer to the forum as the primary source of this or that material.
Summing up, I can say with confidence that weekly reviews are needed to increase the audience of the channel, while materials with a title in the spirit of "On mining in simple words, etc." are needed to support the existing audience. I don't see any other way to scale the channel. + What you are talking about will not interest the audience for the simple reason that they are not familiar with the mechanics of the forum, (and because such messages will be taken out of the context of one thread or another).

What is clear though; the audience from the forum will give the channel a better chance of success early on, due to the traffic. So, you effectively already have an audience due to them being intrigued that Bitcointalk has moved to Youtube, you just need to hook them on that first video. Yeah, I'm not trying to speak on the behalf of anyone here, including the donators I just can't see forum funds being used for something that big. Although, like you reiterated it could potentially be toned down to a more realistic level. A podcast is a cool idea too. I'd watch it if it regularly featured new members from the community and would probably be willing to be interviewed for it (not that I'd be asked), as I'm sure many others here would as well.
If anyone has the pulling power, I'd like to think that Bitcointalk would. Although, there's a lot of production involved with podcasts, and finding someone comfortable to speak, and interview someone would be difficult, and then sorting out the recording difficulties since you'd want decent audio from everyone involved. I don't think a Youtube production representing Bitcointalk is a one man team so to speak. Its probably best to have various people involved, including people that are on screen, and off screen. At least, to assure we get regular content out there. Bitcointalk the Joe Rogan of cryptocurrencies?

Interviews would be cool. I agree with you and @Welsh that some might be reluctant in participating, but it's not like we have to churn an interview every week, so should be fine. Weekly awards for best and worst posts is good idea! Could be added as a segment to a weekly video, like the last part of the video would be about that. I'd love to see some overwhelming positive content. How about a MrBeast like channel?
That's taking the awards thing to a whole(some!) other level! I like the idea! But more funding would be needed and some good people/causes to invest in.

I find this approach interesting. Though more oriented to an news/article outlet, rather than video format, right? Which is fine and like to work on that sometime if it is of interest to the community.

True, but this requires a budget and constant attention, not even two people, but three or four. (If you really want to build an audience of 100,000 from scratch). But again, as I mentioned, this should be a channel with its own broadcasting style and weekly broadcasts targeted at the general public, then in the end the effort expended will live up to expectations.

Worth noting; if this ever did take off, then it would probably be a good idea to repurpose the Twitter account @Bitcointalk for marketing. I know previously its been used for announcing any major issues with the forum i.e outages. Another idea to throw out there which is kind of related to the podcast/interview ideas is debates. Get a few established forum users on the show, and then have them debate over current events. So, you'd probably need to figure out opposing views before the show, and it would have to be moderated pretty well i.e keeping it civilized while retaining freedom of speech, but some good clean ol' debate. Imagine if theoretically we did have an upcoming hard fork, which was particularly dividing the community, having two voices go at it together, with the host setting the pace by asking specific questions to keep it on topic. I'm sure that would be very interesting even with less dramatic theoretical events. I've always wanted to make a debating site related to this side of things i.e Bitcoin, but never got around to it. I'm sure that Youtube is probably an even better platform than a standalone website. With the interviews idea, you don't technically need the person controlling the Youtube channel to reveal their identity, which might create a little intrigue to the show. I'm thinking about those Youtube channels where the hosts give them a video to watch, and pop up questions on screen rather than communicating directly. Obviously, they communicate to the guests, but that's edited out. So, if the host wanted to keep some sort of anonymous identity this format could be done. Also, @cyrus fantastic logo.
Personally, I believe to appeal to the general public we are probably going to have the most success with interviews, and podcasts. What I mean by podcasts is Joe Rogan style where he basically interviews people on the podcast, rather than having the same hosts talk about random stuff related to the forum, and Bitcoin every week. The budget; I know that theymos has previously stated that he might be willing to allocate some forum funds to the cause. I'm assuming this would depend on the quality of production, and success. Sponsorships are a thing, and if theymos wanted too he could offer forum advertisements, and Youtube advertisements as a package. The other ideas aside from OgNasty's idea would probably be more audience specific, and appealing to the existing users on the forum more than the general public. A podcast is a cool idea too. I'd watch it if it regularly featured new members from the community and would probably be willing to be interviewed for it (not that I'd be asked), as I'm sure many others here would as well.
I think there would be enough interesting characters here willing to get interviewed that you could fill up a few years of content just through that. Then, once there's an audience you could potentially expand the purpose of the channel.

Bitcointalk the Joe Rogan of cryptocurrencies?
That would be cool! A podcast would probably catch on more easily than other formats, since they're really popular right now. It's also easier to produce after the set-up is done. But would it be worth having yet another crypto podcast? Also, @cyrus fantastic logo.
Thank you! It was a quick job, the quality could definitely be better. Also, great list of popular/not very popular! I like the ideas so far, and IMO the channel wouldn't need to settle on just ONE format. As we grow, more of these ideas could be realized. Just need to figure out a good starting point. One that could be forgiving enough as we learn how to create this type of content.

So let's say I'd start filming tomorrow. What type of content/themes would you like to see?
I suggest making a video of how this forum was born and how satoshi Nakamoto creates the forum. Maybe people don't know bitcoin has the forum school and all communities get together talking about bitcoin since 2009. I ever asked my friend where he got info about bitcoin, he said from youtube this means he didn't get the information from here. I hope when the channel creates, people come here not from youtube, the channel is just for reference.

I get what you're saying regarding the Youtube thing. I recently started interacting over at Twitter and was surprised just how many people apparently really into crypto (judging by their avatar, description and tweets) were oblivious to BitcoinTalk! Worth noting; if this ever did take off, then it would probably be a good idea to repurpose the Twitter account @Bitcointalk for marketing. I know previously its been used for announcing any major issues with the forum i.e outages.
It's something that I recently brought up to theymos. Not for marketing anything, but IMO it should be used for more than to Just inform people of outages. Plus, it would help bring some new information about this place out there. FWIW, I see the Bitcointalk Youtube channel just as official as the Discord server - don't like slapping official on things anyway.

So let's say I'd start filming tomorrow. What type of content/themes would you like to see?
Maybe a recap on the art competition held last 10th anniversary of bitcoin talk forum. I think its cool to see and filmed those submission arts and hand drawn designs. Aside from others suggestion. I think its good if you have some designer for the clips so it can be uniform when you set a video. Just a suggestion but maybe you can handle it well @cyrus.

Things I would love to see are, first a visual version of some of the informative threads on the forum like the threads that has to do with bitcoin signature (signing and verifying signatures), how to setup wallets or any other important Bitcoin and possible some altcoins threads been represented visually. We all know visual learning is more impactive than just reading, when newbie (or everyone) get to see how these things are done visually they can easily follow up.
Same goes for other features the forum has. It takes some time before a newbie learns how to quote properly or make use of most of the writing features of the forum. If the channel was to have daily updates on how to use some of these writing features like how to make used of the codes, table (how to setup them and arrange them properly), I bet the channel will actually be useful.
Another thing will be as genuine news update maybe like a roundup of all the important news of the previous day or weekly update. There are so many news outlets out there that members can't trust them to give you important update on trending news about the industry. An example was the china ban on mining activities, not many news outlets were reporting that news in that manner, they were just after enhancing the fud and the storyline was about bitcoin itself been banned in china. Also not forgetting the entertainment aspects, we know this generation love that and it'll be vital for keeping the channel active.

That is true, and especially younger people never even heard that Bitcointalk forum exists, and I am just hoping they won't get evil fee welcome message when they try to register, or they will consider it a scam. It's something that I recently brought up to theymos. Not for marketing anything, but IMO it should be used for more than to Just inform people of outages. Plus, it would help bring some new information about this place out there.
I am all for activating twitter account with weekly or monthly news and interesting posts, and creating bitcointalk youtube account is a good idea, but youtube censorship is getting more strict every day, and I remember how they banned bunch of Bitcoin content before.

What type of content/themes would you like to see?
In addition to interviews and guides, I think there should also be a segment about worthy BTCitcoin related websites, software, and apps that are somewhat unknown. - BTW, I think guides should be short and fun, while interviews should be long and interesting; I think it could have a better retention rate if it's live-streamed with a segment that guests take questions from the chat.It looks great - How big is it?I don't think a Youtube production representing Bitcointalk is a one man team so to speak.
and constant attention, not even two people, but three or four.
That's true if it was 10 years ago but nowadays, one person is more than enough if you have the right tools and skills. Tools & Softwares: - Decent computer
- Two/three microphones [preferably a dynamic one]
- An audio interface
- Mic boom arms
- Camera/s
- Stage
- OBS + any other video editing software
Skills: - It takes less than a month to master OBS and you only need to know the basics for post-processing [finishing touches] in any other video editing software.
- With OBS [or similar softwares], you can deal with 95% of the issues that previously required someone else's help [it's quite fun].
Weekly awards for best and worst posts is good idea!
I'm curious to know what type of award would be given to those in the worst posts category?

Would weekly best posts be decided at your discretion, or would you use the merit data to decide? Worst posts I feel you'll have a lot of competition. Shorts now seem to be gaining traction on the platform with Youtube trying to push that type of content I believe; Does anyone have any ideas regarding content that would fit the "shorts"? Also, it would be nice to hear off some more new users to the forum as currently its been mostly from established users. Let us know what you would find useful! That's true if it was 10 years ago but nowadays, one person is more than enough if you have the right tools and skills.
That's if they're dedicating themselves full time to this, which I doubt many people would have the time for, and I'm unsure with cyrus' other responsibilities they would have time for this alone. It depends on the format that you use I guess, but I would stay its quite the commitment regardless. Content like documentaries would take a lot more time than a podcast/interview format. Although, I'm not neglecting how much time it would take to setup the space, liaise with the guest, and then setup the questions for each individual guest. In addition to interviews and guides, I think there should also be a segment about worthy BTCitcoin related websites, software, and apps that are somewhat unknown. - BTW, I think guides should be short and fun, while interviews should be long and interesting; I think it could have a better retention rate if it's live-streamed with a segment that guests take questions from the chat.
I like the idea about guides, however I think it would be worth considering if its suppose to be educational, it would be better although I guess not completely necessary to have it as unbiased as possible, and be careful about promoting one service over another. Luckily we do live in a world with OBS, which I believe has vastly streamlined the process compared to a few years ago when Fraps, and other programs were the only ones available. Also, editing software like Davinci are now a available as a alternative to expensive Adobe software.
