I am 100% in favor of using something called "Potato" to run Gekko miners. No idea if it works, but potatoes are great.

I am doing some tests with an antminer U2 V1.2, I have this message: “usb init, open device failed, err-3, you don't have privilege to access -AMU device 1:10. Icarus detected , failed to initialise” . Does this mean that I am missing some configuration? Or that the device I just bought used is not working? (I already checked usb connections and tried different ports and power supply of my new bitcoin merch usb hub) what do you recommend?

... and the U2 isn't even a Gekko miner ... Ja. It was made by Bitmain long long ago in a Galaxy far far away so... Wrong area to ask. Belongs in Mining Support as its own new topic. Also hope you didn't pay more than maybe $20 for it because it is not only VERY old - like from around 2014 - but of course also very very slow... |

My R909 was set at 550 and was running fine I came back a little later and now its 540. What caused that/do I need to adjust the volt screw?
Well a couple days later it turned into a zombie.
Not sure what happen but it's saying 0 chips found.

Sidehack has previously mentioned that if it's a zombie device/0 chips type issue, it's probably hardware related, and you should talk to your reseller for a remedy.

I've upgraded to the Gekkoscience 8 Port USB Hub 2.0 (using 12V 10A 120W DC Power Supply) from my original Bitcoin Merch 7-Port USB Hub and now all three COMPAC F sticks are running at 400mhz no problem. Each stick is being cooled by it's own Noctua NF-A4x10 FLX fan.
My issue is that one of the three sticks (the problematic one from the beginning) is running much hotter than the other two. It would burn my finger if I left it on there for too long. I'm trying to figure out why this one is running so much hotter and what temperature is acceptable/safe.
On the USB tester, all sticks are pulling around 5.07V, 1.71A, and 8.7W. My infrared thermometer can't pull the temp, so I used a meat thermometer that read 102F for two sticks and 120F for the other. That doesn't seem too accurate, but I'm not sure how else to get the temp.
Only thing I can think of is I had previously turned the voltage screw quite a bit in the past, but wouldn't I see voltage use different between them if that's what was causing the heat?
Anyways, just looking for some advice so I don't burn up the chip and/or house.

If it's measured as pulling the same amount of power but it's hotter, the problem is not the stick, it's your cooling.

Um, it's not... Each stick is pulling 3A at 5vdc or 15w. In North America all standard 120VAC outlets are 15A, not 20. 120v * 15A = 1,800w if pushed to the max (not a good idea to do 24x7). Thass a whole lotta sticks  |

Um, it's not... Each stick is pulling 3A at 5vdc or 15w. In North America all standard 120VAC outlets are 15A, not 20. 120v * 15A = 1,800w if pushed to the max (not a good idea to do 24x7). Thass a whole lotta sticks The Gekkoscience 8 Port USB Hub 2.0 could you hook it up to a 20a power supply vs a 10a for more amperage to the miners? or does the 6 pin offer more, I've never messed with it? |

The power output limits of the hub are internal. If your input power can push more than about 12V/12A, the hub itself will be the limiter in how much juice you can deliver to sticks.
If you're going over about 8 amps, you need to use the 6-pin. The barrel is rated for 8A max.

Yes, MHz and GH correlate (until hardware limitations like heat or voltage cause problems) so if you want more GH you need to increase MHz.

Most are not and top out at 1.5a before the port shuts off. At stock freq the current is still over 2 amps. |

It is possible, but the frequency at which can be run will depend on the specific USB port you are using. Note that you can even use a USB2 port, the main thing that matters is the power delivery of the port, not the data part of it. If you run it slow, you can plug it in basically anywhere. The higher you run it, the least USB ports will work, and eventually you'll need a fan as well unless you want some melted components. |
