does anyone here have a noctua fan suitable for the gekkoscience compac f for sale?
looking for one complete with usb connector and the fan mount
For the mount -> https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4947599
And use any "print and send" service.

Are looking for one like that ?
https://bitcoinmerch.com/products/bitcoin-merch-gekkoscience-newpac-usb-fan-upgrade
I never ordered to Bitcoinmerch myself, as I live in Eastern Europe, the shipping fee is expensive. My Compac F all came with fans

By the way, I would be interested if we are able to find a Noctua fan which is appropriate, I would like to have some in advance and the quality of the fans I own is pretty bad.
Do not buy the fans from Bitcoinmerch. They are really cheap and shit fans.
Out of the box 2 out of 6 didn't work well and were really noisy (high-pitched sound). And after some time the others failed.

Noctua does not make 40mm fans with a USB connector. We've tried to convince them to do a custom build, but no luck yet.
So if you want to use a Noctua fan with Compac f, you'll have to get the fan and adapter separately, and then mount them on the fan shroud.
https://www.amazon.com/Noctua-Cooling-Blades-Bearing-NF-A4x10/dp/B009NQLT0M/
https://www.amazon.com/CRJ-Voltage-Step-Up-Sleeved-Adapter/dp/B07QFG6LFR/
Noctua makes 5V 40mm fans -> https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071W6JZV8/
I bought those with FAN to USB cables -> https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09BQ82B6F/
That lets me power the fan from USB.
Same result as your solution, but no need to buy a Step-Up cable.

As long as it can run kanos cgminer and you run it on a mains powered usb hub OR underclock it significantly (which is pointless) then I dont see why not.

I run one on a PI Zero 2W using CGMiner 4.12.1 cloned and built from Kanoi's git hub

https://github.com/kanoi/cgminer.git

AFAIK the stock PI Zero hasn't quite got the resources to run it reliably.

Hope that helps

Cheers,

G.

The spec for that HUB says 2.4A per port (12 watts per port)

So with the 36Watt PSU that comes with it, it should be enough to run 2 of them and enough power left for fans provided you dont over-clock them.

Anyway, I found this info a while back that gives a guide to load Vs clock rate for the compac f.

Code:
Clock : Hub Power : Hashrate
400Mhz : 2.0A : 200GH/s
500Mhz : 2.75A : 300GH/s
545Mhz : 3.0A : 366GH/s
600Mhz : 3.3A : 400GH/s
700Mhz : 4.0A : 460GH/s
800Mhz : 5.0A : 550GH/s

Typically I run mine at 450Mhz, it seems most stable at that rate and averages around 275-320GH/s

Higher clocks and it starts to get very hot and unstable even with forced air cooling. Don't be tempted to overclock too much it'll get too hot.

That means even if i use 5A with a good cooler (maybe a 120mm from noctua) and make a dyi cooler to use it in both miner together it will be run instable?

Is this 5A?

You are mis-reading the specs - that HUB is powered by a 12v 5a (60w) power supply which has nothing to do with what each port can supply. That 12v is stepped down to 5v for each port but each port is still limited to 2.4a. Very few hubs support putting out 3a per port continuously.

What is the best USB hub for 2 oft this miner? The normal.USB hubs dont work some have 1a or 2a each port.

I find this ones:
https://bitcoinmerch.com/products/gekkoscience-8-port-usb-hub-2-0
8 Port from Gekkoscience (looks like i also can run 2 miner 3a or 5a)

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01K4LYX7U/
Only thing im not understand is Supply 5V/600mA sufficient current per port, means it 0,6ampere?

https://www.amazon.de/gp/aw/d/B07CCK5RK3/
Sorry i dont find this in english Version seems Like it habe 2*2.4a ports and 1*12v port.

Maybe you know better hubs?

The best hub you can get is the Gekkoscience one. Its made to run all the gekkoscience sticks. Personally I run 6x Compac Fs at 530mhz and get around 2.1Th. I use a 419mining fan frame with a 92mm noctua fan to cool them. Its been solid for months and doesnt miss a beat unless my internet connection craps out.

Agreed, the Gekkoscience hub is made for it.

All the other generic multi-port powered hubs either don't support much more than 1 or 2Amps or are just not fit for purpose.

Difficult to find anything generic that goes above 2.4Amps on a single port.

If you intend on over-clocking the Compac f then the Gekkoscience hub is probably the right way to go.

Personally, I'm happy with it chugging along in the background at 450Mhz so a simple generic hub with a 2.4A output is enough for now i'm only running one of them.

The Gekkoscience One Hub is the same in my link?
I think also for security reason i will buy the one hub, other stuff from China can burn and not controlled what i like on the gekkoscience is the fan connector.

What powersupply are you using?

Yes the one from bitcoinmerch is the gekkoscience one I’m referring to.

I’m using an HP common slot psu and breakout board left over from a gpu rig I had years ago. But you can run it from a regular ATX psu as it has a 6pin pcie connector. You can run it from a barrel jack connector and high wattage laptop psu, but the 6pin is better and more reassuring.

I'm just using a generic unbranded 4 port powered USB hub, much like the first one you suggested. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07Q5X1292/

I dont recall where I got it from I've had it for years.

Since I'm only running one Compac F miner at stock speeds it is good enough to power it and one fan to keep things cool.

If you plan to over-clock, you will need something extra like the GekkoScience hub.

GekkoScience Compac F Harware failure.  Sad Sad Sad Embarrassed

I bought a Compac F a couple of months ago, its been running pretty well the entire time.

However last night at some point it has failed and will no longer hash.

Done some basic checks this morning to see whats going on, Supply to USB port is 5.15V

Running gcminer, the device is recognised so at least the USB port translator is operational. cgminer flags lots of hardware errors.

I've measured the ASIC core supply voltage and its toggling from 0.86V to 1.475V as cgminer is issuing data, this kind of suggest to me that the core supply is unable to provide power under load.

Time to break out the oscilloscope and see what's really going on, my initial thoughs are that one of the switching FETs has failed.

Further investigation required. Watch this space....

OK following this up, the ASIC has died.

After much deliberation I decided to remove the ASIC in order to independently test the power supply. Having done so and hooked it to a programmable load the core power supply works fine.

Sadly this means that the ASIC has died.

I have some spares but they are re-use parts, the one I've first fitted responds but does not hash but with the PSU now stable. Could be a soldering issue, these parts are nasty to solder down reliably.

I've had enough for one day. I'll see if I can order some fresh ASICS and try again.

 Sad

Can someone help me understand what the highlighted parts on this cgminer terminal mean?
I read through the cgminer readme file, but I think these are device specific fields, so not listed there.

Well, in your green circle the 01 means one chip and the + means it's using ASIC Boost.

Most of this is explained in this thread and/or in Kano's support page.
