I'm not familiar with Z Gorres incident. But thanks for bringing this up as I have to go back and read his story. And we can all thanks Manny for that kind of gesture as he help those Filipino boxers that brought glory to us before Manny became a Filipino icon.

He knows how to take care of those legends before him and most likely that's why up to this day he still wants to fight to bring the Philippines into the world map again and again. The the Gorres family will be grateful for the help that Manny gave to them.
Manny Pacquiao has always been like that, if he knows someone's struggling he's there to help. And speaking of him, he's now a hands on dad to his daughter who will study at the Loyola University Chicago. We can see how good he is as a person and people would debate that he shouldn't enter politics anymore.

When I read your post, I find it amazing that Z Gorres managed to recover.
I guess that also with the support system that he's got and the will power that he's got as a boxer helped his recovery.

When talking about brain injury and boxing, story of Magomed Abdusalamov is what comes to my mind first. In his story, brain injury was found straight after the fight, however doctors still were not able to do anything. There is no solution so far to such injury. 13 years have passed since then, and one of the improvements is that he has started only to recognize some people. When I read your post, I find it amazing that Z Gorres managed to recover.

The recovery time is really different from person to person, Z Gorres was just lucky that he was able to recover. I think one important thing is also the emotion and mindset, because having the will to recover can really help someone keep fighting. Some boxers who suffer this kind of injury may lose hope, especially if they were already champions and suddenly feel like they lost everything. That can make recovery even harder because mentally they may no longer want to fight anymore.

Yes, mindset is very important for a person to recovery from such devastating illness. I personally witnessed someone who gave up and died because of such illness (not the same with Gorres though).

So the first thing for someone to bounce back is to have a mentally and be positive that they can go back and be back in their lives. It might not be the same as before, but at least you are alive and with your family and surviving, thanks to the grace of God and yourself.

Yes, I have seen a lot of videos of Manny walking around in Chicago and like a rockstar as everyone wanting to have a picture with him. Not just Filipinos, but Mexicans as well and Manny very much oblige as you can see that he is really down to earth.

And as you have said, he is Jinky Pacquaio is hands on as far as bringing up his daughter and giving her the best education that she can have as Manny didn't have that privilege when growing up.

I saw the videos circulating on social media right now. Manny Pacquiao is truly a respectable man in different countries, and even many people in Mexico have a huge respect for him. He has always remained humble and perhaps that is one of the reasons why so many blessings have poured into his life.. and even though they are already a very wealthy family, they still make sure that their children experience a normal and humble life. we can really see those values reflected in their children. still wishing Manny Pacquiao all the best and continued success in the future..

Very humble man and despite that, he also wants to enjoy walking around; he's there and game for everyone who asks him a picture. These people are very happy and they saw how they were given time to have some little chit-chat and picture-taking with him. Giving their kids the best education that they can is sure a great gift. They only have to study hard and work for themselves and grow. He won't be called "people's champ" for no reason and we're just proud that even other nations recognized him.

In a video, yes he can talk but he still struggles walking and he's not back to his physical form, he also gained weight. So even if he recovered mentally, physically he's still not the same. But that's already a big progress considering it was a brain injury, at least we can see how much he has recovered.

I was about to post this video about Z Gorres but you beat me to it mate. In the video he is struggling to walk but it is better to see him in that situation where he can also talk not like the others who passed away due to brain injury. It is just sad to note that after that incident, there is no more help coming on his way, no insurance or whatsoever that could help him live his daily life. Now he is asking once again for financial help to support his family, i hope that Casimero and Pacquiao would see this video and extend some help to the once deadly Z "The Dream" Gorres.

The fighter that I have posted never loses hope to recover. His wife is by him all those years supporting him. He is originally from Dagestan, place where people support sports and their national athletes with all their hearts (athletes are very honored there), so he is getting a lot of support; financial as well. However the medicine is not powerless in his case. Money also cant help. New York state athletic commission has paid a record amount of $22 millions as lawsuit.

Abduasalamov was a very promising heavyweight prospect who had a 100% knockout ratio. In that fight he also was hit with an illegal blow, a forearm that injured his face and impacted the way things played out.

I am all for these fighters receiving some form of restitution, but the $22 million is of little consolation. Most of that will be used for his medical care and to take care of his family’s essential needs. He might have ended up with more money had he not taken such a severe beating and his career had continued to progress normally.

At least he has got those $22 millions. Many boxers, who are not as popular as top ranked, get same illegal blows, injuries and have to fight with injuries by themselves. The most unfortunate thing is that damage from those punches to the back of head might reveal long later after the fight and it makes hard to prove which exactly opponent is guilty for that. Situation with Abduasalamov is so unfair. He was a very promising boxer in his prime. 18-0, all knockouts. Lost only 1 fight and that fight was fatal for him.

Another bad and very unfortunate news, Two-time world champion Tete shot dead outside home.

Most of us here are familiar with Tete, as Casimero beat him in 2019 for the WBO belt. Just very sad news to hear that he was a target.

Hopefully, the perpetuators of this crime will be caught and put to justice.

RIP champ!!!

I could not forgot this name "Tete" as he was the one dethroned by Johnriel Casimero for that controversial WBO bantamweight belt. Zolane Tete was the huge favorite on that one but Casimero pulled an upset with a 3rd round TKO. After that fight, i never heard his name again so i browsed the net and research a bit for the reason of his disappearance from the ring and it was that failure in the drug test that resulted for him to be banned for four years, that was unfortunate for the champ.

RIP champ.

We haven’t even gotten Pritchard Colon’s own now another one 🤦
That’s really sad man, i’m tired of hearing about athletes dying.

I’m thinking his death could be as a result of unresolved issues in the past or perhaps someone was just jealous of him and decided to do him bad like that.
Cos the manner in which he was done does not come off to me as a robbery gone wrong, it was an intentional act and i won’t be suprised if it was someone who knew him closely that did it.

But i heard they haven’t confirmed what the motive of his murder could be just yet.
Either way, i hope they get those bastards that did it and bring them to justice.

RIP to Tete.

And this is from South African media update:

Quote
Preferred Source Follow on Google News
Two persons of interest have been apprehended by the police in KuGompo City, the Eastern Cape, in connection with the murder of Zolani Tete. The former world champion boxer was shot dead in Mdantsane on Friday night.

Police spokesperson Nobuntu Gantana, says the two men aged 30 and 22 were apprehended on Saturday in KuGompo City after an intelligence-driven operation by multiple law enforcement units.

Gantana says the police are unable to furnish any further information due to the sensitive nature of the investigation.

https://www.sabcnews.com/sabcnews/two-arrested-in-connection-with-boxer-zolani-tetes-murder/

It's hard to imagine what will be the reason for this two to shot the former world champion. Obviously the father is very sad to see his son die like this. It was really a senseless killing. Maybe they have a old grudge or someone has paid this two criminals to gun down Tete out of jealously or maybe personal reasons.

It's hard to imagine what will be the reason for this two to shot the former world champion. Obviously the father is very sad to see his son die like this. It was really a senseless killing. Maybe they have a old grudge or someone has paid this two criminals to gun down Tete out of jealously or maybe personal reasons.
Thanks for bringing the news, although it's really bad news. I know this boxer, he was the one Casimero beat, and after that I haven't really heard much about him anymore.

But to end like this, he definitely didn't deserve it. I just hope these two suspects are really the ones responsible, and if proven guilty, they should face the full punishment and serve justice for him.
