I think that given Russia's current tactic of using long-range missiles to attack Ukraine's energy infrastructure, it is not appropriate to mobilize the army for a general offensive. My prediction is that Russia will increase the use of low-cost UAVs combined with high-precision missiles to continue to attack Ukraine to make Ukraine mentally exhausted when winter has no energy to use, forcing them to negotiate.

It is way too soon to talk about defeat since this war is going to drag on for a long time.

Right now the Russian strategy is to stand back (after they captured strategic positions over the past couple of months) and slowly destroy Ukraine's infrastructure hoping they can break their forces while they shell any progressing forces to get high casualties. Unless Ukraine can break this strategy and push Russians back in the coming weeks, their chances of sustained resistance decreases significantly over time.
This is the least of what we are going to see all through winter.

As for oil prices, regardless of the result of this conflict there are a lot of other factors affecting that. For one the Russian oil has to come back to European markets at large to bring the price down and considering sanctions and the relationship with the West, I don't see that happening.
2 other important factors are China and whether they are going to be pulled into a war with Taiwan (or maybe even Japan!!) that could significantly decrease demand and bring the price down (here).
And whether the oil producing countries like Saudis are going to be allowed to increase production. As we speak the tensions between Yemen and Saudis is growing and over the past month multiple tankers stealing Yemenis oil were hit. Next target could be their oil infrastructure (the only thing preventing it so far has been FIFA World Cup in Qatar).

P.S. I disagree with the last sentence. US is actually too desperate to bring energy price down. This has been their strategy ever since they invented "Petrodollar" they first increased the oil price to force other countries to buy the massive amount of fiat they had printed (like during Pandemic) to buy the extra expensive oil. Then they ordered their colonies like Saudis to increase production and decrease price so that the high energy price doesn't move US economy into a recession+inflation combo.
This time they could not do that and US is experiencing both. FED has already increased interest rates multiple times and I believe right now it is somewhere close to 5% which means it has also lost its effectiveness in controlling inflation...

They just had the mid term elections and Democrats won the control of the senate. The next elections are two years away and by that time the war will be settled once and for all. But the longer the war lasts, that much difficult will be the economical situation, across the globe. Already countries are reeling from high inflation, driven by high prices of oil, gas, wheat and coal. Europe is disproportionately impacted while the US is benefitting from it's exports of oil and gas at inflated prices to countries including the European Union.

Honestly, after reading this, I feel sad for the people of Russia that will be affected by this recommendation because its another way of the government stealing from the citizen they ought to serve/help and the worse part is that those in power or in the office their bank deposited fund will not be touch. I see that America's customers are almost entirely European because they sell oil and gas at too high a price, and Europe has no other choice. I believe the European governments are well aware of what is happening, but they have no better solution. They are controlled by the US, they depend on everything from the military to the economy. Although inflation in the US is still high, they have succeeded in exporting inflation to their brothers. Inflation in the UK and some European countries have shown no signs of stopping and is still increasing. Only one country is winning this war.

In fact the more possible scenario is an internal war between different European countries specially in the Eastern Europe and the Balkans. Decisions won't be that quick, Republicans won't stand out with the hasty decision he has to save America's reputation from a saviour title (although I doubt its authenticity), deciding anything big needs time to consolidate first and thinking of it as a no. harm America itself. According to my understanding, political parties cannot make policies based on the attitude of the state but can influence them through their cadres in the government system.

Of course, those who agree to this war continue I also don't want to, but NATO continues to fly its NATO flag led by America on the plains of Europe, of course, if this continues it will disrupt world stability, and America's strength will increase and continue to grow. In Ukraine, they have repeatedly stated that with the onset of winter, the Armed Forces of Ukraine are not going to stop and will beat the invaders until they are driven out of their territory. As soon as the ground freezes, the Armed Forces of Ukraine will attack the enemy with all the forces and means that are now accumulating.
The most likely strike is expected on the southern front, in order to cut the positions of the Russian army and disrupt the logistical supply routes, as well as reach the Sea of Azov and the isthmus of the Crimean peninsula. After that, the Armed Forces of Ukraine will be able to completely destroy the entire territory of Crimea with fire, and the Russian occupying army will be trapped. These events have been prepared for a long time, the Armed Forces of Ukraine are methodically hitting ammunition depots, command posts and places of accumulation of enemy manpower with pinpoint strikes. I don't have much money left in bank accounts, but my relatives keep their savings in banks.  Indeed, they have a great risk of losing them if they are forcibly converted into war bonds. 

I recently withdrew my savings from an anonymous metal account and bought myself a nice Finnish down jacket.  This down jacket looks very simple, but it is very warm and practical.  It can be easily washed in warm water.  Now Finnish companies do not want to supply their goods to Russia.  Down jackets cost more than 300 euros and are considered luxury items.  Luxury goods are subject to European sanctions.

I decided that if chaos and unrest began in Russia, then I would need a really good practical down jacket more than savings in a bank account, which, most likely, I would not have access to. 

In such a down jacket - warm and light - it will be easy to run away from all sorts of bad people and quickly move around urban and rural areas.

My sincerest condolences for what is happening to the people of Ukraine, they did not deserve the loss of the war but if you stand up against the puppet government Volodymyr Zelensky nothing will happen to your country.
