Even though they previously won against Juventus in the domestic league, they were only able to score 1 goal and in my opinion this average goal will not make Roma so safe in the European league. Overall, I can say that the two teams that will compete do not have significant differences, and in my opinion, Manchester United is slightly superior. Real Betis are doing well in La Liga as well. I think that Roma and Real Sociedad are meeting on eye level. They are weaker than the top teams in their domestic leagues, but stronger or equally strong with the contenders right behind the top teams. I think you were referring to the game between Manchester United and Liverpool, and not Manchester City. Just a minor correction.

I don't think that at this level of professionalism where these teams are at that such a defeat will have long-term consequences or even have an influence on the next game let alone determine how they will play in the future at all.

That is essentially what a coach is there for. His task is to get the defeat out of their heads after a proper analysis of the bad game, taking some learnings from it and then make the players forget about the parts that they don't need to improve. It is enough of a dishonor for them to be standing on the pitch when the opponent scores for the fifth, then the sixth, and then even the seventh time. There really isn't any urgency to further punish them. Don't you see any contradiction in your reasoning, especially against the background of the fact that the second participant in the game Liverpool - United recently lost big (record for their field) to Real? United lost big but in fact it's a common loss of points that happen regularly and by the way it's a round robin tournament so it's not as tragic as in the playoffs.
Betis is a strong team and even Real Madrid couldn't beat them away, so most likely United will try to resolve the issue immediately in the first game.
