Benfica are still unstoppable in the league. 12 wins and 1 draw in 13 games is a really impressive statistics. They have played one big game in the league so far and defeated Porto in that one. They have been incredible about being productive also. Darwin Nunez was scoring so many goals for them until being transferred by Liverpool. But even his departure didn't affect them in a bad way. They have nearly a statistics like 3 goals per game in the league now. Porto can still keep up with them of course as 8 points is not a too big gap. But this really seems like Benfica's season.

When it comes to the Champions League I also expect them to eliminate Club Brugge decently. Their group stage performance was more impressive than Club Brugge's. Even if they are eliminated in quarter finals it would still be a good success for Benfica.

Although the result seems to be a very balanced game, the reality is that Benfica had several opportunities to score many goals. But, especially in the second half, Estrela da Amadora's goalkeeper was very good and defended several shots. Not the tennis result I was expecting but as you said if they had scored a lot of the opportunities they have created we may had a truly tennis result.This result shows that Benfica just wanted to get rid of Estrela and move on to the next stage of the Portugal cup.I think it is one of the rare leagues where the cup is also evaluated as a great thing beside the league itself,if we see Europe in Germany,Spain and some other leagues the cup is not that important but in Portugal the fact that the strong teams keep winning it is a determining factor.Only in England the cup not all of them as they have several but the FA cup is really valued just like in Portugal.

Not the tennis result I was expecting but as you said if they had scored a lot of the opportunities they have created we may had a truly tennis result.This result shows that Benfica just wanted to get rid of Estrela and move on to the next stage of the Portugal cup.I think it is one of the rare leagues where the cup is also evaluated as a great thing beside the league itself,if we see Europe in Germany,Spain and some other leagues the cup is not that important but in Portugal the fact that the strong teams keep winning it is a determining factor.Only in England the cup not all of them as they have several but the FA cup is really valued just like in Portugal.

In Portugal the big teams continue to win, because even their second lines continue to be superior to the smaller teams.
Although the smaller teams try to perform better in this cup, they end up not being able to overcome the big ones. Even so, from time to time, one or another small team manages to give more fight to the big ones.

That game was unexpected indeed we all thought that benfeca would win easily but  estreala team had a decent performance they too missed some chances but not much as benfica did am sure that's the best they could do.

They aren't this much good in the Liga Portugal only of course. Their Champions League performance has also been impressive. It looks like they can reach the quarter finals by eliminating Club Brugge as well. This season is going on way better for them as a result.

I didn't knew that they continue to play in Portugal and didn't made break for World Cup. Why? Big teams released their main players not just into Portugal, but also some other national teams. Though, even without main players, for teams like Porto or Benfica it shouldn't be problem to reach next round of League Cup. IIRC, they're playing in group stage in League Cup, right?
About Benfica run without defeats, it heavy depends in what condition players after Wolrd Cup will return. Also, I remember Sporting few years ago also had long run without defeats, and they finally lost when they already were crowned as champions.

About Benfica run without defeats, it heavy depends in what condition players after Wolrd Cup will return. Also, I remember Sporting few years ago also had long run without defeats, and they finally lost when they already were crowned as champions.

The League Cup was created to have more player turnover, and it's not even a very important competition.
So it was easy to fit this competition at this stage of the season.


This sequence of victories is already the second best in the history of Benfica. That if not lost by the end of January will become the first.

Yesterday Sporting played and won the game against Rio Ave, counting for the League Cup, by 2-0. They are well on their way to moving forward in the competition.

Today Porto is playing against Chaves and needs to win if they want to continue in this competition (The game may be postponed due to the extreme weather affecting Portugal).

After the break for the World Cup and a few games for the League Cup (a less relevant competition for the big clubs) the Portuguese championship returns this week, similar to what happens throughout Europe.

well, I believe that this is a result without many surprises, casa pia came to this game with 2 wins in 5 games, they were in need of this victory, and in their last game they won so they were more optimistic for this game , meanwhile, their opponent Portimonense came into this game with only 1 victory in the last 5 games, and in their last game they lost so clearly they were not optimistic for this game, with this victory the Casa Pia will again have more optimism in the remaining games, they were even doing well but then they started to drop in performance

It was almost natural for Porto to win that game, it would be difficult to see Aroca facing Porto, especially now that they have to do everything to be able to create pressure on Benfica and stay in the race for first place.

Porto won 5-1 over Arouca and Taremi scored a hat-trick in that match. Arouca managed to score 1 goal through Marques in the 75th minute

Sporting also won with a good score (3-0), they got 4 points in this game and currently have the same points as Braga. The competition in the top 4 is getting tougher

Today we have a great game Braga vs Benfica.

SL Benfica has practically the entire squad available, with the exception of David Neres. It registers the best attack and defense of the championship and will certainly continue to maintain its invincibility in all official matches: 28 Games, 23 Victories, 5 Draws. Braga, on the other hand, wants to maintain the third place in the championship and for that only the victory matters to keep FC Porto just one point away.

A curious fact is that there has not been a tie to zero for the championship between the two teams since 2007/08.
