We are not seeing the expected good performances from the big and renowned teams in this year's Euros. England, Italy, Belgium, France, Netherlands and Portugal all performed poorly. England, Italy, Belgium and Netherlands have won only one out of their 3 matches. Each team has a strong squad but fails to perform well against relatively weaker teams.



Portugal team is now playing against Georgia. Despite having talented players like JoaoFelix, Ronaldo and Danilo in the squad, Portugal is not able to perform well against a weak side like Georgia. However, Portugal won the first two matches by a large margin. Portugal won with a big margin of 3-0 against Turkey. However, Ronaldo's Belgium team is not playing well against Georgia today.

What a poor performance from Portugal today, although Portugal has already been qualified, but to be honest, I’m not happy with their performance today, Portugal changed all their starting players and played the players who don’t have experience in the league, the only player that plays in the game is Ronaldo and he also is having a bad game, those young players of Portugal can not help the team and we have seen their performance today, now that we all will believe that Portugal old players are still important for Portugal, a player like Pepe, Bruno, and silva are very important to be in the match.

I think the reason why the coach decided to change all the players that used to play for the team is that they have already qualified for another stage of the tournament, and with this poor performance, the coach will know what he is going to do because bringing those young players to play in the round of 16 will let Portugal to be eliminated from the tournament and that won’t sound good if Portugal was been eliminated from the tournament in the round of 16.

Georgia performance tonight really surprised me. Georgia won Portugal that comfortably won both Turkey and Czechia. Football is really unpredictable sometimes, sincerely speaking I never saw this Georgia win coming. Despite Turkey late win that helped them secure second place, Georgia still made it to the round of 16 where they will face Spain on Sunday. They should celebrate their win and get ready for Sunday, if they can pull this kind of result on Sunday and win Spain, then people will start taking them serious. I don't know what went wrong in the Portuguese team tonight, maybe they considered the match as irrelevant, because I'm still struggling to understand why Portugal couldn't score a team like Georgia. What I do not understand is why Ukraine with 4 points didn't qualify but Slovenia with 3 points qualified.

What happened to Portugal today because I didn't watch the match. I was watching the Türkiye - Czech Republic match. It was a very exciting and tiring match. Even though Czech Republic was down to 10 players, we could not play a comfortable game in the early minutes.

Hakan Çalhanoğlu scored a goal and relieved us, the captain. Even though there were only ten men, the Czech Republic fought well and were even able to score the equalizing goal. Cenk Tosun scored the winning goal in the first match he played in. He is a good finisher and I don't understand why he didn't play until now.

I think there was a foul in the Czech goal but the referee didn't give it.

The thing is even without the late goal scored by Türkiye they will certainly still finish ahead for Georgia because the euro uses the headed to as criteria ahead of other conditions. This was the reason why Portugal had already been confirmed as group winners even without playing today’s game, because they cannot be toppled. The goal difference comes in when the game between the two opponents had ended in draw or the teams with a same point will make use of the goal difference.

What a day to be Romanian and I'm so proud to be one because this national team really won our Group and they did it with fashion. Now, next step is to face Holland and with a bit of luck I can say with confidence we can eliminate them and move even further in Euro 2024 because Romania really has a great team.  

They seriously deserved their qualification, when the group was rolled out many has actually slept on them, the 3-0 win against Ukraine was what actually boost their confidence to say they could go all the way. The game against the Dutch is definitely going to be a evenly balanced regardless of who the better team on paper is. Romania are looking like a team that will cause many upset in this tournament

Because Ukraine was the last in their group (the 4th) so that's an automatic elimination. The points they got don't matter.

Seems your math worked out perfectly but then it was a close call as i also predicted. I was waiting till the final match of the group stage to reply to this post. I know you were not wrong but i just wanted to prove a point to you that anything can still happen and that you can’t just conclude that Netherlands have qualified already because they have 4 points. They have more advantage of advancing but look what happened today, Georgia pulled a stunt that surprised everyone today, they won Portugal with 2 goals to none and almost took the best loser spot. football is a very unpredictable sport at times and anything can happen.

Portugal lost - but they qualify for the round 16, that's all that matters.
Portugal's main line-up in the match against Georgia has basically proven that Portugal is not aiming for victory. Losing, winning or drawing no longer impact their chance of qualifying - so it's not big deal for them. It's just that - many gamblers fail to win their favorite team.

Ronaldo, who was expected to play full time, was pulled out and replaced by another player. There are far more important match in the round of 16 instead of wasting energy on this one - so letting Georgia win and qualify is just the smart choice. In the round of 16 - Portugal will meet Slovenia, where Portugal must win.

A very funny game going down in group E. Imagine the four teams playing a draw each and the annoying part is Romania is topping the group despite all of them having four points each. I never expected less in the game between Romania and Slovakia as they are both stubborn sides but I least expected that they will be topping a group where you've got the likes of Belgium and Ukraine in it.
 This tournament just shows that teams you think would be at the forefront are the ones that will be struggling and take Belgium's case for instance. Seriously, I wish Ukraine can just get a goal so they can have a hope of staying because if it ends like this, they get kicked out.

And yeah Romania is at the top of the standings because they scored 4 goals in 3 matches and Belgium only scored 2 goals, Ukraine is certain to be eliminated because they only scored 2 goals and conceded 4 goals or overall -2 goals of course it's very sad. The group stage only leaves 2 matches then we will see which teams will go to the next round, at least the 2 top teams have taken their place there while those in 3rd place will compete with other teams to compete for some tickets.

Of all the groups, Netherlands was the most surprising team because they were only able to finish in 3rd position even though at first we predicted they would qualify for the next round easily but yeah this is the fact they have to compete again.

This competition is really surprising. First, teams who are clear favorites to win the group stages end up in second or third place and the least teams take center stage. That's what happened to Romania in their group E. I don't know if I'm the only one noticing this, but there has been a kind of pattern in this tournament; small teams who prior to the last game have no points and no hopes of qualifying to the next round suddenly become strong and deadly in their last game and struggle to get points. We saw that in Hungary and even Georgia.

Don't be so certain about Spain winning them, well in papers and for everyone it would be quite clear that Spain is supposed to win this game but for a certain level and degree football is a game that can suprise you even befor your wildest thoughts. I believe Spain was the only team to actually make a complete win by securing all nine points and if they continue like this then they would be one step in grasping the euro trophy.

This particular loss by Portugal was a shocker to me because I never really expected them to lose despite the fact that they have already qualified for the next round atleast finishing the group with a clear stand would have been better than losing shamelessly to Georgia, well kudos to Georgia for a match well played and also finishing with 4 points, as this competition is concerned I believe there are no longer any small nations to under rate.

Maybe it's not surprising that Portugal lost because Roberto Martínez made many changes in this match, starting from the strategy and line-up of players. In this match the coach rotated the players, only Ronaldo was used, most of the others were on the bench. However, I really didn't expect Portugal to lose with a score of 2-0, in fact Portugal couldn't score at all even though Portugal played continuously attacking, they were also dominant but Georgia appeared very solid, clinical and efficient. they only had a few chances but they were able to score two goals.

With this victory, Georgia qualified for the round of 16, this is new history for Georgia. They managed to qualify for the Euro Cup for the first time, and were able to qualify for the round of 16. If you look at Georgia's performance at the Euros this time, they really deserve to qualify because they always put on an energetic performance, make the match interesting, and the most impressive thing is that they were able to beat Portugal to qualify for the round of 16.

We all like it when the underdog defeats a much higher-rated team.
Portugal dominated in possession and shots on goals, but were unsuccesful in the only metric that really counts.

I don't think the penalty was deserved. There was a contact but it clearly didn't cause the fall. Now, that we have VAR system, diving should be penalised with yellow cards and any players that do that should be shamed.
Normalising players throwing themselves to the ground and crying out in pain just to extort a penalty or a free kick was a mistake. It makes football look gay and laughable.

I disagree with your first part because the foul Barak commited that led to the red card was on the midfield line. It had nothing to do with desperation. He was fully focused on the ball with his eyes and didn't have bad intent, but his ill-considered timing made him step onto the foot of the Turkish player and hence the second yellow card was justified.

The way the Czechs played was amazing. They have had all the passion it needed to win this game. With 11 players on the pitch I tend to believe that they would have won this game. In fact it doesn't put Turkey into the best light that they could not capitalize on being one player more for almost 75 minutes. Czech was much closer to taking the lead than Turkey was. I have barely seen a team fighting as hard and running as much as the Czech team did in this game and I think they would have deserved it.

The goal scorer Tosun played one of his worst games ever. But in this moment he was there and scored the final goal, which helps him to camouflage his overall bad performance. Once you score, nobody talks about the rest.

For the most part you are right though. I just didn't like the term desperation here. Czech played with passion, dedication and proud. It must be so hard to be one man down after 20 minutes when you have a big chance to make a dream come true. For many players often times the last chance to reach a final round at such a big tournament.

Did Turkey deserve it? I don't think so. But I am also sure that Austria knows the Turks have plenty of weaknesses. Austria is the favorite in that game.

There is some interesting plot to be expected though. If the Netherlands win their game against Romania and Austria wins their game against Turkey, the Netherlands will get their revenge game against Austria That would be fun to watch!

Mate, sometimes we have to understand what their plan is for the next step and Portugal actually lost this match because they played young or new players but it's not a bad move, I know the coach has planned something like saving his main players for more important matches so there is no reason to play them in this match because they have already qualified for the next round, If the coach forces them to play there is a risk of injury or fatigue so we have to understand this situation.

Indeed, this defeat will have a slight impact on the players' mentality in the next match but I don't think it's a big problem and I'm sure they can handle it. The knockout matches has been determined and the toughest game would be between France and Belgium where I believe France would advance.
Spain, Germany, Portugal, Netherlands, Turkiye, England and Italy would be the favorites in their respective competition but nothing can be said sure specially during knockouts.
